When Trina woke up, she was lying in the middle of a rough wooden floor, instead of the floor of her bedroom. Slowly she sat up, and looked around, wondering where she was.
"So you finally awakened," a voice said, startling her and making her jump to her feet.
"Who are you?" She asked turning and facing the owner of the voice, a man with shaggy brown hair.
"I'm not going to hurt you," he said, "my name is Conaire, I'm Dorchacht like you."
"Dorchacht?" Trina asked softly, and then said, "the shadow people."
Conaire smiled, "yes," he said, and stepped closer.
Trina noticed for the first time that he had the same color hair and eyes as her.
"Who are we?" She asked, as he reached out a hand.
"Come, I'll show you."
He led her out of the room and down a long flight of stairs.
"Your mother Molly was the queen of our people," he said, leading her to a large hallway full of portraits.
"This was her," he said, and Trina stared at the portrait, seeing the same woman she had seen in the mirror before.
"The Conchobhar rebelled against our people, the day you were brought into this world," Conaire said softly. "Your father fell in battle, and it seemed like they were going to take the castle, and you. But your mother sent her younger sister Mina away with you. Then she went into battle herself, to give Mina time to escape."
He looked at Trina, "Molly died as well, to protect you," he said softly.
"Why?" Trina asked softly, staring at her mother's face in wonder.
"Because you are the hope for our people," he said, "there are few of us left. The Conchobhar slaughtered more than half of our people the day of the rebellion. Those of us, who managed to escape, have been living in hiding, waiting for the day that your droidheachd would bring you to us."
When Trina looked at him questioningly he smiled.
"Your magic," he explained, "all the royals of the Dorchacht line have it. It binds you together, through your spirit, so even when one of you are lost, you can still find your way home."
After giving her a few moments, he took her hand again.
"Its time to meet your people Alastrina," he said and led her down the hallway, to a massive set of oak doors.
As he pushed them open, Trina felt a moment of panic, a longing to run away. But then Conaire opened the doors fully, showing a group of people, her people, and she knew she was finally where she belonged.
