So Simple
Children think inside their heads
That if they keep a night-light on
The "monsters" underneath their beds
Might take flight – yes, they'll all be gone.
We may admit to our nightmare
But say we have no way of healing.
Wonder whether we'd fare
Better if we thought about revealing
Fears of darkness, feeling numb.
No, I won't, I won't succumb.
Breaking out in a cold sweat,
Memories I can't forget.
I hate the darkness, hate the night.
All I need is a shining light.
But I'm too afraid to say
"I'm scared."
