During lunch
I sit at the small little table
at the back left side of the cafeteria

I silently eat
focused on the crunch of the lettuce
the taste of flavor
and the blandness of my words

I'm lost in the space of my mind
ignoring all the noise
all the faces
that stare at me

If I were to disappear
no one would notice
who would care?

I'm in the background
unlike everyone else
who lives in the limelight
for I am always in the shadows

If I am to be ignored
so should the rest of the world.
