The Treasure of the Queen

Chapter 1

Yes! Finally, it's finally here, the first day of grade 10. The last two months have been a cross between agonizing pain and pure joy. Everyone is so excited for seeing everybody but everyone else is disappointed for school to start. But not I, for me, school is the closest thing to happiness in my life.

When I was six, my mom disappeared. I knew, that morning that something was wrong. Every morning she would come in to my bedroom, wake me up, and give me a kiss goodbye before she left for work. But when I woke up, she wasn't there. My dad said he hadn't seen her all morning. After that, we never saw her again. Everybody just assumed that my mom was dead, but I knew, that she wasn't. I just couldn't accept that she would just die.

When I was 10, I woke up one morning, and found something lying on my bedside table. I turned the light on and took a look. I couldn't believe my eyes, what I saw on the table and picked up in my hands, was a sleeping pixie. I was positive that it was a dream. I continuously pinch my arm which I still have little, pink bruises from, and slapped my face so hard I had a mark the entire day so everybody assumed my dad had been beating me, but nothing would work. Then I finally came to the conclusion that it wasn't a dream. Everything was real. There was an actual perfect, delicate as a rose petal pixie in my hands, but something was wrong. I'd always thought that pixies had glowing complexions, long wavy hair, beautiful clothes, and bright sparkly, glittery wings. But this pixie didn't look right, she looked sick. Her skin was a pale color, almost grey. Her hair didn't look as beautifully wavy and unrealistic as I thought it would, and her wings weren't bright or sparkly, they were droopy.

I quickly ran into the bathroom and wet the poor pixies face. I didn't have a clue what to do. My mind was racing, to busy thinking, `I've seen a pixie, this is so awesome`. I didn't even know pixies existed let alone how to cure some sort of pixie sickness. But at the time, I wanted to be a doctor so I did what I thought any good doctor would do, give my patient different medicines until I figured out which medicine worked. First, I yanked all the medicine down from the cabinet. They all came smashing down with loud BOOMS and BANGS. The first bottle I grabbed for was the Pepto-Bismol. I put a drop of it in a tea spoon and stuck it in the pixies mouth. I waited for a few minutes and nothing happened. Then I tried a Tylenol, I broke a crumb off, stuffed it in her mouth and waited, and still nothing happened. That was when I saw my older brother Aaron's old inhaler in the trash can. It was my last hope. If this didn't work, then that pixie was done for. I put the massive inhaler up to the pixies tiny, little mouth and I pressed in on her stomach, then I squeezed on the inhaler. I did that over and over again for a few minutes. Of course, when I was 10, I didn't actually know how to use an inhaler.

After a few minutes, I was about to give up when I saw the pixies wings sparkle. Suddenly, her eyes fluttered open and she breathed in deeply.

"Oh my," She exclaimed in her quiet, sweet, melodious voice.

"Hello," I said shyly.

"Oh, hello," She replied.

"What's your name and what are you doing here?" I questioned, cautiously.

"My name is Rozia and I'm not quite sure how I got to your massive house," Rozia answered sweetly, "What's your name."

"Oh, my name is Sophi," I replied sweetly.

"It's nice to meet you Sophi," Rozia replied, "I am deeply sorry for causing you any trouble."

"No it's fine," I replied as I glanced at my watch, "Oh my gosh, I have to get ready for school, my dad will be waking up soon. It was very nice meeting you Rozia; I hope to see you again someday."

"I hope so too," Rozia agreed, "Thank you dearly for saving me."

"No problem," I answered as I ran into my bedroom and shut the door. I hurriedly got ready and ran downstairs to eat breakfast. I've always thought that was just a hallucination, or a dream.

I walked into the school, unfamiliar of my surroundings, because this year, I was on the first floor. My school is a k-12 school. Kindergarten to grade 6 is on the third floor, grade 7 to 9 is on the middle floor, and grade 10 to 12 is on the bottom floor. Thankfully, the first person I saw was Amelia. She's the type of person you'd expect to see on a runway, with her long blond flowing hair down to her mid-elbows. She has her glittering green eyes and her beautifully red lips. She was wearing one of her many miniskirt and her brand new Italian shirt, holding her purse in one hand and her cell phone in the other. She's the type of person you wouldn't want as an enemy. When it came to keeping secrets and spreading gossip, she was definitely your go to girl. I'm lucky to have a best friend like her.

"Amelia!" I yelled as I ran toward her.

"Hey Sophi, how was your summer?" Amelia asked.

"Uh, I'd rather not talk about it," I explained, "But how was Italy?"

"It was amazing, I even met this really cute Italian boy. But I don't know his name, and I couldn't understand his accent. I even have a picture of him, it's my new screensaver." Amelia replied as she gave me a big hug and showed me the picture of this really cute, really tanned teenage guy, "What happened this summer?"

Immediately I started tearing up, "Well, I saw Brady this summer, holding hands with this girl from Rogers. I think her name tag said something like Alisha, or maybe Alice."

"But, you guys just broke up about 2 months ago," Amelia remembered.

"Ya, I'd just rather not think about boys and dating right now," I explained.

"Well it's their loss," Amelia tried to cheer me up, but was failing at it miserably, "You look amazing." Compared to Amelia, I'm just her dorky little sidekick. I have my wavy dark brown hair down to the edge of my wrists, my supposedly sparkling blue eyes according to Amelia. My outfit including blue jean with rips in the knees, my baby blue tank top, my black cardigan sweater, my black ballet flats, and my usual heart locket with a picture of me and my mom. I also have my usual no-makeup routine. Plus no purse and my cell phone sticking out of my back pocket. I'm definitely not the supermodel type. Yup, I sure look amazing…. not.

"Sure," I answered with just a hint of sarcasm.

"Fine, don't believe me, but just so you know, there's a new guy that just moved here this year in our homeroom," She explained, "His name is Dylan Simmons."

"Okay," I replied as we started to walk to class.

When we got to class, we sat down in our desks and took out our books.

"Tell me again why we decided to take Spanish?" I asked.

"Because it was the only option left, unless you wanted to take math club," Amelia explained, "Oh, I think that's Dylan, he looks new. If it wasn't Dylan then chances are I would've seen him before."

"Oh ya, because you've dated almost every boy in our grade," I replied as I bent my head down to look at the ground.

"What are you doing?" Amelia asked, almost definitely staring at him, "He really is cute."

"I don't care," I explained as I saw a new pair of shoes pass by and sit right next to me, "Not after what happened with me and Brady."

"Fine, suit yourself," Amelia huffed.

The next 3 periods were really hard because turns out that Dylan was in all my next classes. It's a lot harder to ignore someone and not look at them when they are in most of to all of your classes. By the time lunch came, I was about to give up. We went to go get our lunches from the cafeteria and Dylan was in front of us. Just as he was about to walk away, my journal fell out of my hands and onto the floor right in front of him.

"I believe this is yours," Dylan whispered in an incredibly cute British accent, so that the rest of the cafeteria couldn't hear us, as he handed me my journal. I hesitated for a second before slowly raising my head to look at Dylan. My eyes met his as I held out my hand and froze. His eyes were deep sea blue. He had dark black hair just about to his chin. He had a perfect smile and perfectly shaped nose with a face that had a brilliant complexion. His grey Tee was tight on his muscles and his jeans were as black as you could get them. No wonder Amelia wanted me to look past the boots.

"Um, thanks," I replied as I received my journal from him.

"No problem," He answered as he walked away. I was speechless, but I couldn't let Amelia know. We walked over to a table and started eating.

"Hey Sophi, what do you think of Dylan?" She interrogated.

"I guess he is kind of handsome, and with a cute British accent," I replied as I took a big bite into my sub. Just as I was about to swallow, I saw something that for a good 6 years I had always thought had been just a dream. I saw Rozia and I spit my food so far it hit Amelia and fell onto her napkin, "Oh my gosh, I am so sorry Amelia."

"Its fine," Amelia replied as she wiped off her face.

"I just thought I saw something," I answered. Ring.

"Lunch is over, see you in science." And Amelia walked off.

I have to see what that was, and if it really was Rozia, my thought screamed out to me like a high pitched baby bird, as I ran off into the busy crowd and pushed through like a bulldozer, even knocking down a few of nines, until I was outside of the clump. I ran off to my locker trying to avoid the rest of the crowd. I stayed stuck to the wall as I snuck over to the door. I busted through the door and I saw a buzz of dust. I glanced behind me as I slowly walked farther from the door, following that little ball of light. It took me so far I was one step from falling into the cold river by the side of the school. I decided to finally give up. As I walked away, I heard a buzz in my ear. It sounded like someone was telling me something.

"Turn around," The tiny, melodious voice said as I spun and saw Dylan over by the door. I walked over and saw he found my notebook again. I walked up to him.

"Thanks," I murmured under my breath, "Again."

"No problem," He replied. I had the feeling I was going to be running into him a lot, "I haven't exactly introduced myself yet. My name is Dylan Simmons. I just moved here from Britain. May I ask who you are?" Wow, he's cute and polite.

"Um, I'm Sophi Jaze," I replied trying hard to not sound stupid, "Thanks again for finding my journal…twice."

"No problem, now maybe we should get inside before we freeze to death," Dylan suggested, just as it started drizzling rain and we ran to take cover by the door, "Why did you come out here, I saw you run out the door as you dropped your journal?"

"Ya, um, I thought I saw something," I replied cautiously, I didn't want to tell him to much just incase he turned out to be a jerk, like Brady, or thought I was crazy for thinking I saw a pixie, "Never mind."

We went to class a few minutes early and I sat down waiting for Amelia. She got there just before the bell rang. Just seconds after she ran in, the bell rang and Mr. Piper slipped through the door.

Class went by really fast. Dylan and I actually got along. We got lab partners and Dylan was my partner. We were working together really well until he spilt some blue dye on my tank top, and his face turned from happy, smiley cute guy to shocked, unhappy, rose red, totally embarrassed cute guy.

"Oh my gosh," He exclaimed in that completely adorable accent, "I am so sorry."

"No that's fine, it doesn't matter," I assured him in my completely normal, totally not British or cute way I speak, "This shirt is old anyway. It was boring and plain and I was planning to throw it out anyway."

"Wow Sophi, I had you completely wrong," He started, "I thought you were one of those snobby, self absorbed girls who only cares about her appearance. But I was completely wrong."

"Thanks, that really means a lot," I laughed, "I'm definitely not your regular girl."

"Oh really," Dylan joked, "Then tell me what I need to know to be friends with this girl?"

I enlightened, "Well first, I hate it when people dress up their dogs, I love summer and winter, I hate dresses, and I don't wear any makeup."

"What about your family?" He questioned.

"Um, my dad is a work-a-holic who yells a lot and drinks too much root beer," I pointed out, "Most of my family lives in Arizona and my mom disappeared when I was 6."

"Oh, okay," He responded. He is the only person who didn't get all apologetic when I told him about my mom.

"It's fine. I've gotten used to the fact that she's probably dead," I stated as I went up to the teacher to ask for a hall pass.

I walked into the bathroom as I went into a stall and changed into my gym shirt, also known as my soft pink tank top. I opened the door and started rinsing the blue dye out of my shirt in the bathroom sink.

"Well, if it isn't Miss Sophi," an unfortunately familiar voice screeched annoyingly.

"What do you want Jennifer," I questioned, "Incase you haven't noticed I'm a bit busy." I pointed to my blue stained shirt. Jennifer is supposedly the `it' girl of the school. She has curly blond hair down to her shoulders, deep red lips, hazel eyes. She was wearing her white cashmere cardigan sweater, her sparkly silver tank top, her jean mini skirt, high heel shoes, brand new French purse and her IPhone sticking out of her purse.

"Aw, poor little Sophi, what happened, spill juice on it at snack time," Jennifer cooed.

"Shut up Jen," I demanded as I wrung it out and walked out of the bathroom to put it in my back pack. I didn't give her the chance to reply as I walk back into the classroom. Just as I sat down, the bell rang, "Ugh!"

Chapter 2

The first day of school is finally over; I smiled as I yanked my back pack out of my locker and slammed it shut. I ran as fast as I could to catch the school bus and just made it as they slide shut right behind me.

When I got home, my dad was sitting on the couch with his head in the hands, waiting for me like he always does when he has news to tell me.

"What is it dad?" I questioned before he even saw me walk in to the living room hesitantly.

"Well, you know I've been dating Stephanie for the last 2 years~" He started, but I didn't let him finish.

"Why do you have to ruin a good day by mentioning that witch," I exclaimed as I ran to the kitchen, slid on the wood floor and grabbed a drink from the fridge.

"Well, she's going to be living with us from now on," He stated quickly.

"What!" I panicked, "How could you let her into our house. She hates me and I hate her. It's going to be chaos around here."

"Well it's too late. Stephanie and I are getting~," He started to explain.

"No, no, no, and no. You can't, you can't, and you can't do that!" I yelled, preparing to hear the last of his sentence.

"Married," He finished, "I don't care, and it's not your choice it's mine. Sophi it's been ten years, I think it's time to move on."

"No it's not!" I screamed, "It's not time to move on. I never want you to move on. I never even wanted you to start dating her. Do you think that you can just replace my mom?" My eyes started to sting with tears. "You can't, and no matter how much you want her to be, she will NEVER be my mother!" And I stormed upstairs to my bed room. And I started to cry. I was furious with my dad. A good chance of Stephanie moving in today, and my bedroom is the only place in this house that will be for me and me only. I didn't just cry, I bawled my eyes dry. Eventually I fell asleep, lying on top of my bed sheets, with tear stains on my pillow.

I woke up the next morning and got ready for school. I cautiously walked down the stairs and grabbed a piece of toast for breakfast. I ran out the door to catch the bus, just as Stephanie walked down the stairs in her bath robe. I ran to the bus stop just as the bus pulled up. I was the first one in and the first one out. The school doors burst open with the flood of everybody from the bus. I'd decided to bring an apron that I used to use for art class in grade 7 and 8 for science. So I can make sure that what happened with Dylan doesn't happen again. I had science and Spanish first 2 periods today. Both of which Dylan are in my class.

"Good job Sophi, making your outfits even uglier with that dumb apron," Jennifer came up behind me examining me.

"Jen, I'm not in the mood. Last night I found out that my dad proposed to his witch of a girlfriend and she moved in last night," I explained.

"Oh, what's her name?" Jennifer asked with a good amount of enthusiasm.

"Um, Stephanie Rose," I answered.

"What?" She asked, starting to draw a crowd as she raised her voice, "Sophi, do you know what my last name is?"

"Um, no, I've never bothered to learn."

"It's Rose. My moms name is Stephanie Rose!"

"What are you talking about?"

"My mom has been dating this guy names David Jaze for the past 2 years."

"No! This can't be. That's my dad's name. But that would explain why I hate your mom. But you weren't with her last night."

"I was with my cousin; I slept over because I was babysitting him."

"No! That means that we will be….."

"TOGETHER!" We screamed simultaneously.

I stormed into science with the worst mood I could ever had. I am finding out the realization that Jennifer Rose was my new stepsister. Ugh! It just ruined the rest of my life. Even when I move out, I'll be forced to see her every year at: Christmas, Thanks giving, Birthdays, and every other holiday or get together.

"Hey, little miss sunshine. Why so glum?" Dylan asked as I sat down at our lab table.

"I just found out that Jennifer Rose is going to be my stepsister!" I whispered angrily.

"Whoa. I've been here one day and I already know that Jen is the closest thing we have to witches in this school."

"I know. Ugh! It makes me so mad. I just found out last night that he was getting remarried. And now it has to be Jen's mom."

"Okay Sophi, just don't burn a hole through the table."

"You're right. I need to calm down. I'll deal with it all when I get home."

We got to Spanish and I sat down beside Amelia.

"Hey, I heard what happened this morning," Amelia said, before I could mention anything.

"Ya, who knew the best years of my life, were 1 through 16," I answered glumly.

"Well, If your going to blame anyone, blame your dad, he's the one marrying the cold hearted ones mother."

"Well, we'll talk more after class."

Classes go by really fast when your planning revenge against your dad. It was lunch time when I thought I saw Rozia again.

"Dylan. Why don't you come and sit with us today?" I asked as we stood in line for our barf food.

"Sure, I got no where better to sit," He answered politely.

We walked over to the table, when I saw the stupid sparkles again. I tried to ignore them, but they got brighter and brighter, and apparently I was the only one who could see them. I closed my eyes and started humming.

"What are you doing?" Dylan asked, confused.

"Um, I don't know," I replied stupidly. We walked over to the garbage cans to through out our wrappers and extra food with Amelia, when my legs just couldn't hold my weight and I collapsed to the ground. Dylan and Amelia helped me up, and helped me to the nurse's office.

I went home about an hour later when Stephanie came to pick me up. We got in her van and started driving home.

"Why didn't you tell me that you were Jen's mom?" I questioned accusingly.

"Well, I know that you and Jennifer don't get along so well," She answered innocently.

"But now we have to live together," I stated, clearly showing how angry and grumpy I am, "And why didn't dad come pick me up?"

"Because he has to work late," She replied quietly.

"I know your trying to be nice, but you," I paused for dramatic affect, "Will NEVER be my mom." We were both silent for the rest of the drive home.

We got home and I ran upstairs and slammed the door shut. It must've been an hour or two because I heard the door open and heard the degrading voice of Jen, in my house. Ugh! I was about to fall asleep when I heard a knock on the door, "Come in!"

"Hi Sophi," Jennifer said as she stepped in.

"Where's your bedroom?" I asked, pretending to be excited.

"Next door," She replied, "I was wondering if we could talk?"

"What?" I asked.

"Well, about the last 3 years, I'm sorry," Jen said quickly, "I've never realized how much I hurt people. My mom told me everything. I've got to say that I was never very excited about my mom having a boyfriend either. And I was just wondering if we could start fresh…. you know…. as sisters?"

"Sure," I exclaimed, "I have to admit that I always wanted a sister, but my mom disappeared before I could have any siblings," I explained as her expressions fell to sadness.

"I'm sorry," She said apologetically, "I know how hard it must've been for you yesterday when your dad told you."

"That's okay…sis," I replied as we laughed, as if we'd been friends forever.

"What was that?" She asked as her head jerked towards the wide open window.

"You mean you saw that too?" I questioned.

"Ya I've been seeing things like that at lunch the past two days," She mumbled so nobody else could here as the flash of light appeared again.

"Me too," I exclaimed, "I don't know about you, but I want to follow that thing."

"Let's do it," We both whispered as we ran out of the bedroom and out the door. We bolted to the side of the house were my bedroom window was, and we saw it again, but this time, two of them. We followed them all the way to the pond in the back field behind my, I mean our house.

"Hello," A melody of a voice said behind us, with another little voice in the background, and made us jump.

"Ah!" We screamed simultaneously, as we turned around. There were two little flying bodies behind us. One of them had blonde and soft blue hair, sparkling soft blue eyes, light pink lips, and pale peach skin tone. She had a beautiful soft blue dress flowing outwards at the bottom with the neck strap, white ballet flats, and baby blue, sparkly wings that fluttered beautifully in the air. The other one had black and soft pink hair, soft pink eyes, red lips, and a pale peach skin tone. She also had a beautiful soft pink strapless shirt with a knee length skirt, dark black heels, and pink sparkly wings.

"Is that you, Rozia?" I questioned.

Chapter 3

"Hi Rozia," She giggled in her wonderfully familiar voice.

"Oh my god, it is you!" I exclaimed as I scooped her out of the air and hugged her close.

"Ahem," The other little pixie coughed, trying to get our attention.

"Oh," Rozia mumbled, obviously a tad bit embarrassed, "Sophi, this is my best friend Nina. Nina, this is Sophi."

"Hi," She said shyly.

"Rozia, Nina, this is my stepsister Jennifer," I introduced them, carefully making sure that Jennifer wasn't going to freak out, "Rozia, after 10 years, why did you come back all of a sudden?"

"Well, When I got back, the queen insisted on giving me my assignment," She tried to explain.

"Your assignment?" I asked, confused.

"Yes, all pixies are guardians. We are assigned to people who can see us," Rozia explained cautiously, "You are my assignment and Jennifer is Nina's assignment. But usually we would've found you by now, but things haven't been going very well lately."

"Why?" Jennifer asked, obviously not as freaked out as I thought she would be.

"Because the dark pixies are rising again," Nina explained in her hushed voice, "The dark pixies are pixies that have turned evil. They go to Isadora the evil witch's palace and ask to join the cause."

"What cause?" I asked.

"The cause to destroy the pixie queen and her daughter," They both replied in perfect harmony, "The queen had a daughter, but she wasn't all pixie, she was half human, the queen also has the power to appear human. The queen tried to stay with her daughter in the human world but eventually had to go back. Now nobody knows what the queen's daughter looks like."

"Wow,' Both Jen and I exclaimed.

"Let's talk inside, it's really cold out here," I responded, and the four of us all walked to the doors of our house and slid through as quietly as possible.

We got inside, hurried up the stairs as quiet as possible, and locked my bedroom door shut so no one would bug us. I couldn't believe it. For 6 years I had always thought that it had been a dream.

"Rozia, Nina, if you would like, you can live here with us," I pointed out as Jen and I sat on my bed with the pixies on our laps.

"That would be delightful," Rozia smiled at us as they got up and fluttered around my room like butterflies.

"So, what did the queen name this daughter of hers?" Jennifer asked quietly.

"No one knows." Nina replied.

"So, what type of pixies are you?" I asked. All the books I'd ever read about pixies said that there are different types of pixies.

"Oh, well most pixies are the same as Queen Serena, moon pixies. There was a time when Queen Serena lived on the moon with the other pixies; they called themselves people of the moon. But only the pixie children~" She paused to point at the two of them, "Are still alive. Queen Serena only had enough power to save then baby pixies when the moon became unstable for pixies to live. So whoever the daughter of the queen is, is the moon princess. She has special powers."

I glanced at Jennifer and then at the pixies, then back at Jen, "Well, I don't know about you but I am wiped out. I think we should go to bed. We do have school in the morning."

"Right," Jennifer confirmed, "We should go to sleep. Come on Nina, let's go to my room. Good night Rozia, and Sophi." She hesitated when she said my name. I guess it is kind of weird. We have always hated each other. But I guess it is time to turn the other cheek.

"Good night Nina, and Jennifer," I responded, just as I yawned and shut the door behind them, "Good night Rozia."

"Good night Sophi," She whispered as I grabbed a little blanket and tiny pillow, and made a soft bed for her. I turned the lights of and went to sleep.

The next morning, I heard Jen's mom scream and I knew that wasn't a good sign. As soon as I opened my door, Jen opened it at the same time and we stormed down the stairs to see what was wrong. There was peanut butter everywhere. I turned my head and nearly screamed when I realized Rozia was sitting on my shoulder.

"What is this?" Stephanie asked as we all stared at the tiny peanut butter footprints all over the kitchen, along with some bread crumbs, "Why are there tiny foot prints of peanut butter everywhere?"

"How are we supposed to know?" I asked, "We were both in bed all night."

"Ya," Jen backed me up on this, "I didn't leave my room."

"Neither did I," I explained.

"Fine, but you two can clean it up," She demanded and left the room.

"Great, now we're going to be late," I complained.

"No, because we know who really did this," Jen pointed out as she glared at Nina who suspiciously smelt like peanut butter.

"We're sorry, but pixies just love peanut butter," Rozia explained as she flew over to the paper towel and grabbed a corner, ripped it off and started cleaning up the footprints.

"Well, just be done before we leave if you want to come to school with us," Jen explained as she pushed me up the stairs.

We left for school with just barely enough time to catch the bus. As soon as we got to the bus stop, the bus was just about to pull away. When we walked in the doors together, everybody stopped what they were doing and starred at us as if we had gone crazy. We walked over to where are lockers are and continuously glanced back, just to see everybody still staring at us. I said goodbye to Jen and walked over to Amelia.

"What's everybody staring at?" I asked Amelia as we walked into Spanish.

"What everybody's looking at is you two. You guys are actually getting along," She starred in disbelief.

"Well, we decided that we should start getting along if we're going to have to live together.

"Whatever," She replied as the teacher walked in.

When it was lunch time, something dawned on me for the first time, "Where's Dylan?"

"I don't know, I haven't seen him," Amelia answered as we walked to our lockers.

"He's probably sick," I suggested as I realized Rozia was still on my shoulder. We went to eat and it felt weird. 1) I had a pixie on my shoulder, and 2) nobody besides me and Jennifer can see her. We finished our lunches, and Amelia and I went over to our lockers.

Our last classes of the day went really fast. It was as if the each class was less then 5 minutes long. I met Jennifer on the bus and we rode home together. We kept talking with Rozia and Nina about the pixies.

"So, where do pixies live?" I whispered so nobody else would here.

"Well," Rozia started, "Pixies and rixen live in very forested places."
"What's a rixen?" Jennifer questioned, keeping her voice low.

"Well, rixen is the male name for pixies," Nina helped explain.

"So where do you two live?" We asked.

"Well, we live very, very, very far away from here. But we're not allowed to say exactly where," Rozia and Nina answered together.

We got home and put our stuff up in our rooms.

"Jennifer?" I started.

"What's up?" She asked.

"Well, did you notice anything weird going on?" I questioned.

"Not really why?"

"Well, it's the 3rd day of school and Dylan isn't there. Everybody was staring at us and I doubt that it was because we were walking beside each other."

"Well, what do you think is wrong?"

"I'm not exactly sure but I do know that there is something Rozia and Nina aren't telling us." I started to say, glancing at our shoulders to make sure they weren't still perched up there.

"What do you mean?"

"Well, why is it that Rozia and Nina have to protect us from something. And I'm going to find out why."

"Well if you're in, I'm in," Jen assured.

Chapter 4

We found Rozia and Nina in the pantry, trying to sniff out where the peanut butter was.

"Where is it," Nina wined as they continued their search.

"Ahem," We both said as they jumped and turned around.

"We need to ask you something," I explained as I scooped Rozia up and carried her to my room, along with Jennifer carrying Nina right behind me.

"Hey," Nina called, but her voice was muffled from being in a hand, "I call pixie abuse. Put us down."

"Hey," I said, almost shouting. Thankfully nobody besides us four is home, "We need to ask you something, and this is the only way to get you to leave your search for peanut butter."

"Well then what is it?" Rozia questioned impatiently.

"What do the dark pixies want with us?" Jennifer asked, as we slowly put them down on her bed.

"What are you talking about?" Rozia asked.

"Well, you said you needed to protect us," I started, "So if you're supposed to protect u from the dark pixies, then what do they want with us?"

"Well, first, either one of you could be the queen's daughter, or second, the dark pixies are always looking for new people to recruit," Rozia explained.

"But I have a mother," Jennifer protested, "And Sophi used to have a mother."

"Ya, and how would we be able to help a bunch of pixies and rixen?" I asked.

"Don't you realize the size difference?" Rozia asked, "Under their control you could easily squash anyone who gets in your way."

"But, then can't we help you?" Jennifer asked, looking really confused.

"No, because Queen Serena wouldn't have you squash anyone. Our goal is to bring the pixies and rixen back to our side," Nina explained.

"Whatever," I replied, not in the mood to talk about this anymore, "I'm tired, I'm just going to go straight to bed. Jen tell my dad I'm asleep. Come on Rozia."

"Goodnight," Jennifer and Nina said.

"Goodnight," We replied back. I shut the door and went to bed.

I woke up and Rozia wasn't there. It was around noon so lunch was probably ready. I walked out and Jennifer was standing right there.

"Have you seen Nina?" She asked.

"No, have you seen Rozia?" I asked back.

"No I haven't," she replied. We went downstairs only to find a note sitting on a plate on the table. I read it out loud "Hi Jennifer and Sophi. I have gone to work and Stephanie will be out all day. Please make your own lunch. Love: Dad/David"

"Great, so we're on our own today," She replied.

"Let's get cooking?" I asked.

"Or we could just through together some peanut butter sandwiches," She suggested.

"Ya, let's do that," I agreed as we took out the hidden peanut butter and the bread and got to work.

When we finished, we sat at the table and ate in quiet.

"You do know this is the worst Saturday ever," Jen asked through a mouth full of peanut butter.

"I know," I replied, "And where do you think Rozia and Nina went?"

"Maybe they went to visit Queen Serena?" Jen suggested.

"Ya, maybe," I slightly agreed. We cleaned up and then we watched some T.V. I couldn't shake the fact that it felt like something was going to go wrong. KNOCK, KNOCK.

"Come in," I yelled from the living room. I heard the door open and shut, but no footsteps, "Jennifer, who's that?"

"I don't know, let's go see," She replied. I expected it to be Rozia and Nina but when I took a look, my suspicions were confirmed. Hovering right in front of us, were two pixies, or should I say rixen, that were definitely not Rozia or Nina. It felt as if we were frozen in place. One had electric blue hair, dark brown eyes, black wings, dark jeans, runners, and a vest. The other had blood red hair, red eyes, a muscle shirt, jeans, runners, and red wings.

"Who are you?" I asked cautiously, getting ready to run at a moments notice.

"We are Ace and Hadrian," The first rixen, Ace, stated plainly.

"Yup, that explains so much," I responded sarcastically.

"We are followers of Isadora the…..pixie." They explained.

I tried to think. I'd heard that name before. Isadora….. Isadora…. Isadora the witch! These rixen are evil.

"You guys are here for something," I stated.

"Well, I guess there isn't any point in hiding it," Ace stated plainly, "We are here for Rozia and Nina."

"You're here for whom?" Jennifer asked stupidly.

"Rozia and Nina," Hadrian replied.

"Never heard of them," I answered playing along with Jenifer.

"Oh are you sure? They're a bit smaller then us. Look really girly," Ace described.

"Nope, never seen them before in my life," I demanded.

"Well, then if you can see us, you'll be very valuable to queen Isadora," Ace decided.

"I thought Isadora was just a pixie, I thought the queen was Serena," Jennifer asked.

"So you do know about us, well, you're even more valuable then we thought," Hadrian realized. They flew over to the linen closet, grabbed two extra curtains, and wrapped us so tight, I'm pretty sure that my face turned purple.

"Well, how are you going to get us there," I retorted.

"Just call some reinforcements," Ace ordered Hadrian, as Hadrian went into the corner.

"Let us go, Ace!" Jennifer and I screamed, for that off chance that Rozia and Nina were close enough to here us.

Chapter 5

Hadrian came back, along with 10 other pixies and rixen. They carried us all the way to an area just outside of Vancouver. It was surrounded by water, on a tiny little island that isn't even on any map. They continued to carry us until we got to this big tree with a giant tree house in it. And that's me talking; I can't imagine how big it must be to the pixies and rixen. They set us down, flat on the ground and attacked the curtains to tacks in the wall.

"Great, now what do we do?" Jen asked.

"We wait," I replied. We sat there, for what felt like forever. By the time somebody came to get us, it must've been like 5pm.

"Hello, are you Sophi and Jennifer?" The girl asked. She must've been older but she looked like some regular teenager, maybe in her early 20s. She had short red hair about down to her chin. She wore a green dress and green and gold shoes. She had dimmed, gold outlines were I imagine her wings would be, and green eyes. She looked just like my mom.

"Ya," I answered cautiously.

"I'm Queen Serena, I'm here to get you out of her," She stated, starting to untie us.

"But, I thought Queen Serena was a pixie?" I asked confused.

"Yes, but as I think Rozia and Nina mentioned, I have the power to change to full human size," She explained as she finished getting the curtains off of us. We climbed down hurriedly, and stated running. I was starting to worry when we reached the edge of the forest that we would be stuck.

"Do you know how to swim?" Serena asked.

"Yup," We both answered just before she pushed us into the water. It was so freezing cold, that I was pretty sure my lips were already turning blue. As soon as Serena jumped in, we started swimming to Vancouver. We got there, and when we climbed out of the water, we were soaking wet. Jennifer and I were shivering but Serena seemed to be perfectly comfortable.

"Now how do we get home?" Jennifer asked.

"We take a bus," She replied plainly.

We walked over to the first bus stop we saw, and waited. As soon as the bus came, we jumped in and told the driver to "Go now!" We finally got home, and it was about 7pm. We walked in the doors; and Stephanie was in the kitchen. We explained how we lost track of time, and we were wondering if our `friend' Serena could stay over for the night. She decided Serena could campout tonight in my room. When we walked into the room, Rozia was pacing around the windowsill, when she turned around and saw me, her face lit up in happiness, then when she saw the face of Serena, it changed into a face of embarrassment.

"Sophi, Jennifer, Nina and I were worried sick about you two," She exclaimed, "We got a letter from Jingles saying he needed to meet us in the park, so we went. When we came back, you girls were gone."

"Well, we're fine," I confirmed, "Queen Serena saved us."

"My Queen, it is so nice to see you," Rozia exclaimed, "How are you?"

"Very well," Serena responded, "Except that Isadora's army is getting bigger."

"So, who exactly is Isadora?" I questioned Serena.

"Isadora is my younger sister," She explained, "When I became queen, Isadora was furious, so she vowed that she would become queen."

"Wow," Jennifer exclaimed.

"You two have to promise me you will hide your sight. Pretend you can't see them, because if rixen or pixies come to your house," She demanded, "Because next time, I might not be there to help you."

"We promise," We replied solemnly.

"Good, now I you don't mind, I'll be right back," She answered as she walked into the bathroom. When she came out, she was a slight bit taller then Rozia and Nina.

"Well, we should get to bed," I explained as I pushed Jennifer out of the room and went to bed.

We woke up, and Queen Serena was gone. We got up and I went downstairs to make a peanut butter sandwich for Rozia. She ate it as if it was the size of a chocolate chip. It was gone within 10 seconds.

"So, what's going to happen if someone finds her daughter?" I wondered.

"Well, there will be a celebration, and with the daughter found, there will be no way for Isadora to get her hands on the crown," Rozia explained.

"Wow," I responded, "So there's a lot riding on the princess's shoulders."

"Yes, the fate of all the pixies and rixen," Rozia announced. She looked at me with longing eyes, as if wondering something that she thought would never be.

"What are you thinking?" I asked, slightly afraid of the answer I might get.

"Well, I was just wondering about what happened to your mother," Rozia's eyes softened, as she probably thought of what Jennifer had said when we were talking the other day, why we need guardians. I have a mother, and Sophi used to have a mother.

"Well honestly, I don't really know," I tried to explain, "When I was six, I woke up one morning, and my mom wasn't there to say good morning when she left for work. My dad hadn't seen her all morning, and he was beginning to worry. After that, my mom never came home. At the time, I thought she just disappeared, but I've come to realize that after ten years, she's probably dead." I noticed how I had said dead so easily. Just like if it was just another word that people say every day. But it's not, it's a cursed word.

"I'm sorry," Rozia said sincerely, "I never met my mom either. Pixies and rixen don't usually stay with their parents very long. Some pixies, like me, never meet their parents at all. It's just the way things are." Just as she finished, Jennifer and Nina walked down the steps, and I almost burst out laughing. Jennifer had a birds nest were her hair should be.

"Um, Jennifer, what happened to your hair?" I questioned, as I couldn't hold it in any longer and burst out laughing, as if I had pulled the greatest prank on April fools.

"Shut up," Jennifer complained, as she addressed Nina, "You said nobody would notice."

"Yes I did. That's what I said, that doesn't mean it's the truth," Nina shrugged.

"Jeez, you could've said that earlier," Jennifer replied as she started pulling through her hair, "Oh, Rozia, I was wondering how we would know if someone is the queen's daughter?"

"Well, the princess will have a pixie wings mark on her left shoulder," She explained.

"Okay," Jennifer answered. That's when Stephanie walked down the stairs. We had just barely heard her with enough time to pretend we weren't doing anything. We jumped on the couch and turned the T.V on.

"You two are up early," Stephanie stated, "Whoa, Jenny, what did you do last night, sleep upside down?" I just couldn't hold it anymore, I burst out laughing again.

"I'm going upstairs," Jennifer decided, and stomped up the stairs.

"Well," Stephanie started, "Are you girls going anywhere today?"

"Maybe," I replied.

"Well, have fun, I'm going out," She explained, as she walked out of the house.

"Nina, Rozia, she's gone," I yelled, as They came out, along with Jen, who now had her hair pulled tight into a bun on the top of her head.

"Sophi," Rozia started, "Nina and I were wondering if it would be okay if the four of us to go visit our friend Jingles?"

"Wow, that would be so cool," I replied.

"Then we should get going," Rozia decided, as her and Nina started flying away, but something stopped Rozia, and she turned around. She looked a bit worried, and then she stared me right in the eyes, "Jingles will be able to tell if one of you are the queen's daughter."

"So how do we get there?" Jennifer asked.

"Well, Jenny," Nina started, "Jingles lives in the park just 7 blocks from here, so lets start moving."

"Don't call me that," Jennifer snapped, as we followed. We had finally got there, when it started to rain.

"Seriously," I moaned, "What stupid, rotten luck."

"Oh, I see Jingles," Nina stated as she flew over to the closest tree, where you could see just the tiniest head of something. When Jingles came out, I couldn't believe my eyes. He had the cutest red Santa hat, a thin green jacket, yellow and gold cargo pants, winter boots that looked so fluffy, that they could've been cotton balls put together, and a plain white shirt. He also had green wings, with bright green eyes, brown short, curly hair, and a cute little elfish face.

"Hi Rozia," Jingles welcomed, a cute little smile, along with a dimple on his left cheek, popped up on his face as soon as he saw her, "Hi Nina.'

"Hi Jingles," They responded together.

"Who are they?" Jingles asked, as he fluttered around us, with a hint of suspicion in his eyes.

"This is Sophi and Jennifer. We are their guardians," Nina explained.

"Sophi and Jennifer," He chanted, "Hmm, do they know anything about you know who?"

"Ya, they also know that you can tell whether they are the princess or not," Rozia replied.

"Well, there is something about Sophi," Jingles replied solemnly, "Something about her, her eyes, her hair, her face, everything."

"What do you mean?" I asked, worriedly.

"You look just like her," He replied.

"Like who?" I questioned.

"There is," He sighed, "One picture of the princess, in the queen's bed chamber. The princess was just a little baby. But you have the exact same sparkle in your eyes as she does."

"But, I can't be the princess, I already had a mom," I tried to explain.

"Had?" Jingles questioned.

"Ya, my mom disappeared when I was 6," I explained.

"Well, what a coincidence," Jingles giggled, "May I see your left arm?"

"Fine," I replied, unsure of what might happen.

"Aha," Jingles exclaimed.

"What?" I asked worriedly.

"Right there, the mark on her left shoulder," Jingles exclaimed, pointing right at a little birth mark on my left shoulder. I'd always thought of it as a butterfly.

"What?" I responded, astonished by his discovery.

"Allow me to be the first to bow down to our long lost princess," Rozia giggled, as if she knew this was going to happen. And one by one, the four of them knelt in front of me. I can't believe this; the thought screamed out to me, I'm no princess. I can barely get my dad to pay attention to me, let alone an entire kingdom, or clan, or whatever of pixies.

"This has to be a mistake," I shook my head, "I'm no princess."

"Oh, but you are," Jingles smiled.

"But, I'm not even a pixie," I stated, "I have no magical powers or wings, or any of this."

"Sophi," Rozia started, "I know it must be a shock, over everything that's happened now, and your mom, but on the brightest side, you get to see your mom again."

"The queen can't be my mom," I exclaimed, "My mom is dead, and I'll never see her again. I don't have a mom!" Tears started dripping down my face.

"Well, pixies, except the queen, can't be around their children very long. But you were her only exception."

"Come on Sophi," Jennifer whispered, "Let's go home." We walked home, and I went straight to my room before even Rozia could follow me. I threw on my pajamas and went to bed.

Chapter 6

In the morning, I got dressed for school, grabbed a granola bar, walked out the door and slammed it behind me. I made it to the bus stop, just as Dylan walked up. That's when it started to drizzle.

"Here," Dylan said, as he handed me his extra umbrella.

"How did you know it would rain?" I asked.

"Weather channel," He stated plainly.

"Oh, right, I left to early to watch it," I explain.

"What happened?" He asked, concerned.

"Just a family thing," I avoided the question.

"Cool, sorry I wasn't at school Friday, I wasn't feeling well," He explained.

"That's fine, I just wish I could've talked to you," I replied, and once I realized what I had said, I started blushing like crazy.

"Really?" Dylan seemed shocked.

"Ya," I said, embarrassed.

"Well then, give me your phone," He responded.

"Excuse me?" I questioned.

"Just give it," He demanded, as he slipped it from my hand and started typing something.

"Hey, give it," I giggled, as he stretched high, just high enough so I couldn't reach it. I hate it that he's taller then me.

"Here," He gave it back. It was on contacts, and I saw Dylan's name on the list.

"You could've just said that's what you were doing," I stated.

"Whatever," Dylan tried to hold back a smile.

We got onto the bus, and sat beside each other. When we got to school, it felt almost instant, when I heard Jennifer scream my name, "Sophi!" She came running forward and basically tackled me. I was lying on the ground by the time a crowd gathered.

"Jen," I said calmly, "GET OFF OF ME!"

"Where were you this morning?" She interrogated.

"What is this CSI?" I questioned, completely ignoring the question, "I was at the bus stop with Dylan."

"Oh," Jen plainly stated, as she finally got off me and helped me up. I ignored her and walked over to my locker.

The first part of the day went by fast. It was lunch by the time I saw Amelia, "Where have you been?"

"I wasn't feeling very well this morning," She explained, "But my mom said I couldn't miss the whole day."

"Oh, well you didn't miss much," I explained. We sat at our usual spot, and Dylan came and sat beside me. For once, lunch was actually peaceful. Nothing was there that shouldn't be. I was wondering where Rozia was.

"Hey," Dylan poked me in the gut, "What's wrong?"

"Nothing," I replied.

At the end of the day, I saw Dylan walking over to my locker.

"Hey, I was wondering if you wanted to walk home together?" He asked me, his adorable accent sticking out now more then ever.

"Well, how close do you live to me?" I asked.

"Apparently very close," he answered, "I had only been walking five minutes when I saw you walking to the bus stop this morning."

"Okay," I answered, trying not to blush. We started walking, when I felt something on my shoulder. I turned my head and Rozia was there. I tried to ignore her; I was going to enjoy walking with Dylan. I saw Rozia whisper something in Dylan's ear.

"Huh," Dylan exclaimed.

"Huh, what, did you say something?" I asked.

"What, no I just heard something," Dylan responded, "Never mind." It started drizzling again, and 10 seconds later, it started to pour.

"Aah!" I started to scream, as we ran to hide under the nearest tree, "Ha-ha."

"Wow," Dylan started, "Has anyone ever told you that you look really cute in the rain?"

"Really, you think so?" I asked.

"Ya," he replied, as he leaned in. OMG, I thought, he's going to kiss me. I leaned in, when I hit my head on the tree branch in front of me; I fell back, and had a big, embarrassing red mark from the branch.

"Oh, Sophi are you all right?" He asked me, concerned.

"Yup," I sighed, trying to get up. I stumbled a bit, but managed to get to my feet, "Just a…..stupid branch."

"Well, let's keep walking," He decided as he pulled out the umbrellas. We kept walking until I got to my door, "Bye Sophi."

"Bye Dylan," I replied back. I walked in the house and Rozia started chanting, "Sophi and Dylan sitting in a tree. K-I-S-S-I-N-G. First comes~" I put my hand over her face before she could continue.

"Shut up, please," I pleaded.

"Oh, and I over heard you guys talking about the Halloween dance, and I have a feeling someone's going to ask you," Rozia confessed.

"What? No he's not," I explained.

"I think he is. He DID try to kiss you," Rozia remembered.

"Whatever," I replied, remembering when I had hit my head on the branch. I can't kiss him. I might want to, but I can't and I won't. I'm not going to let what happened with me and Brady happen again.

The next morning, I started getting dressed for school. I threw on a pair of tattered jeans and a baggy hoodie, when Rozia asked me, "Really, you're wearing that?"

I looked down at myself, "What?"

"Oh, it's nothing. I just thought you'd want to present yourself to Dylan, princess," Rozia answered.

"Don't call me that," I snapped.

"Why not, you are the princess," Rozia explained.

"I'm still questioning that," I responded.

"Well, I can't shake the feeling that there's something different about him," Rozia decided.

"What, the fact that he likes me?" I asked, as I slipped of the hoodie, tee shirt, and jeans and grabbed a grey tank and a pair of shorts from my dresser. I snatched my black cardigan and ran downstairs to eat some breakfast. I glanced at the clock and almost choked on my bagel. I had 10 minutes to get to the bus. I shouldered my bag, slipped on my flats and ran out the door as fast as my size 5 feet could carry me. Less than a minute later, I tripped on a sharp rock, and landed right on my knee, "Ugh!"

A few seconds later, a voice towered over me. I recognized the British accent and before looking up, I knew exactly who it was, "Are you okay, Soph?"

"Ya, I'm fine," I replied, cringing as he helped me stand.

"Sophi, you're bleeding," Dylan stated, looking at my gashed up knee.

"Oh ya, I just tripped, that's all," I explained.

"Well, come sit down," He demanded, pointing to the bench. He helped me hop over and sit on it. Dylan found an extra piece of cloth left over from fashions in his bag and he wrapped it around my knee. Then he helped me limp over to the bus stop. Some how we managed to get there just in time.

"Wow, Dylan it seems I'm always hurt when we're alone," I pointed out.

"Ya, I'm beginning to think it's my fault," Dylan confessed.

"No, it's not your fault, I'm just really clumsy," I tried to explain. The bus healed at the front of the school and I limped over to my locker were Amelia was waiting for me.

"Whoa, what happened," Amelia asked, staring at my bandaged knee.

"I tripped on a rock while I was running to catch the bus," I explained.

"Well, lets get you to the nurse," Amelia decided, as she helped me limp to the nurse's office.

"Well, looks like you got quite a cut here," The nurse responded as she rewrapped my knee.

"Great, I can't walk on it very well either," I reminded.

"Yes, yes, well you can either use a crutch, or limp," the nurse replied.

"I'll limp, but thanks anyway," I decided as I got up and started limping away.

We got to class, and I took my regular seat next to Dylan.

"You okay?" He asked concerned.

"Ya, it's a deep cut but I'll live," I joked.

The teacher walked in and stood in front of the class, "Okay class. As you all know, the Halloween dance is in a week and I need people to help setup. I'll pass around a sign-up sheet, so please sign your name to help out." He started at the front of the class, and by the time it came to the back, almost nobody had signed up. The only names that were on the sheet were Jennifer Rose, Kissmy Butt, and Yous Uckloser. Well, if Jen has the courage, then so do I, I thought as I wrote my name down on the sign-up sheet, followed by Dylan. And then we passed along the sheet to the other side of the class, and it finally made its way back to Mr. Novi.

"Well, thank you Jennifer, Sophi, and Dylan. Now if you three could come to the gym at lunch, we'll get started."

"Bye Amelia," I called as Dylan, Jen and I walked into the gym. All we saw were a table and Mr. Novi standing behind it, "Okay, let's start with decorations. Now we need fake spider webs and black and orange streamers."

"Why don't we just buy everything," I suggested.

"Yes but I need~," He started.

"Sophi and I will go," Dylan decided.

"Sure, fine, just go," Mr. Novi declared, "Jennifer and I will stay and decide on food."

"Ok, bye," Dylan and I said hurriedly as we ran out the door. We started walking in silence to the dollar store. We walked in and grabbed 10 bags of spider webs, and 3 rolls of each colored streamer. We bought them and ran out of the store. And with all my luck, it started pouring and the school was still 15 minutes away, "Oh My God, seriously?"

"It rains a lot here," Dylan concluded.

"I don't suppose you have your umbrellas hiding somewhere?" I questioned.

"Nope," he stated, "But here." He handed me his jacket and I held it above my head and we ran.

We made it into the school and were soaked. As soon as Dylan and I stepped into the gym, Jen and Mr. Novi stopped talking and stared at us. It was probably a pitiful sight. I had a jacket draped over my head, slick to my skin, with Dylan in a muscle shirt, nothing covering his arms, and a dollar store bag in his hand along with puddles trailing behind us, "We got rained out."

"Well you too go get dried off, we're done today, just remember to come back tomorrow at lunch," He explained. I went to the locker room and breathed in the sadly familiar scent of BO. I grabbed my towel from my gym locker and started to dry myself off.

I got to class and sat beside Amelia, "Whoa, what happened?" She looked at my damp body.

"Dylan and I got rained out at lunch," I explained.

"Oh, so has he asked you?" Amelia bugged.

"Asked me what?"

"The Halloween dance, has Dylan asked you to the dance yet?" She clarified.

"No, why does everybody think he's going to ask me?"

"'Cause you two would look so cute together, and you're perfect for each other," she answered.

"Whatever," I responded.

The next class zipped by and before I knew it; it was the end of the day. Dylan met up with me at my locker and we decided to walk home together again. We left the school and started walking. I stuffed my hands in my still slightly damp pockets and walked along side him. I could feel my hair curl up against my face like it always does when it's wet. So I stuffed it into a pony tail.

"So, I was wondering if….." His voice trailed off.

"If what?" I waited.

"If you would like to go to the… the Halloween dance with me?"

"Oh, um, uh," I considered, "Um, okay. Yes, yes I'd….. I'd love to go to the Halloween dance with you."

"You will?" He said like he couldn't believe it.

"Yes," I giggled as I gave him a big hug. I don't care about Brady anymore, I decided. We continued walking and all too soon we had reached my house, "Bye Dylan."

"Bye Soph," Dylan replied, his adorable British accent sticking out more than ever. And I just love the nick name he gave me.
