Chapter 30

Kevin was still in bed the next morning. I hadn't realized how much I had missed waking up to seeing him. He looked very young when he slept and I spend a few minutes watching him. I knew I was probably being creepy but I didn't care.

As if he could feel me watching him, his eyes fluttered open.

"Hi, prince." He said groggily, smiling. "Good morning."

"Morning." I replied, leaning in to kiss him. He made a sound of protest.

"I need to brush my teeth before you start doing that."

"You know I don't care."

"Yeah, but I care."

I sighed but moved back. He smiled again and yawned. I made a face at his morning breath.

"Yeah, go brush your teeth." I said. He hit me, grinning.

"Like your breath is any better."

"I don't want to unpack my toothbrush."

"Then don't."

"I won't."

We were quiet. Kevin's began tracing my thigh with his fingers.

"Do you think mum is making breakfast?" Kevin asked a while later. I opened my eyes, not remember when I shut them.

"We could go make it ourselves." I suggested. He shrugged.

"But that means getting dressed."

You are already dressed." I wasn't certain, though. Kevin smiled mischievously.

"Are you sure?"

"When did you get naked?" I asked, pulling the blanket down. He scooted closer to me, kicking his leg over mine. I pulled him even closer.

"After you fell asleep." He kissed my nose.

"Very sneaky."

He shrugged and snaked his arm around me. We laid like that for a while. I almost groaned when his door was opened slowly.

"I'm giving you time to get decent." Sheila said. Kevin pulled the blanket up before the door opened all the way. "Good morning, boys."

"Hi Sheila." I said cheerfully. She walked over Kevin's obstacle of mess on the floor and sat on the bed behind him. I blushed slightly.

"Leo," Sheila started. "Patrick and I have always loved you like a son. You know that. Ever since I saw you as that small, frail child, I knew you would have a special place in my heart. I am so proud of you, Leo. I think what I am trying to say is that no matter what you decide to do or where you decide to go to college, I will always support you."

I didn't know where that had come from at all. Kevin was very still next to me, so Sheila surprised him, too.

"Thanks for saying that, Sheila." I said, clearing my throat. "You overheard me talking about school?"

Sheila smiled. "Yes, I did. I don't want my boys to be so stressed. You are young. Spend time thinking about how you are going to get jobs."

I smiled. Honestly I had forgotten about needing a job. And Kevin wanted to move out? That wasn't going to work very well.

"Thank you for listening to me." Sheila said, standing up. "I'm going to start breakfast. Be down in a half hour. She left the room, nearly tripping.

"See?" Kevin wrapped his arms around me. "We are so loved. We could never move across the country."

I rolled my eyes. He was a brat sometimes.

It was amazing what a loving family could give you. Growing up, my life was a mixture of disappointments and excitements. I met a wonderful family, my wonderful boyfriend, and a few good friends as well. My father is still in my life, and in his life is Joy. She was so understanding when it came to our family. And with her came Willy and Xavier.

There was one thing I wish I realized when I was growing up; Life will always go on and it won't slow down for you. Everything will get better at one point. Give as much love as you can to the people around you.

I was starting to sound like a fortune cookie, but I didn't care. I was happy. I was in love. I had all the time in the world.

My name is Leo Manteuffel. I am 18 years old and I am dating my best friend. I am surrounded by people who love and appreciate me. And that's all you really need in life.
