Chapter 49: The Truth
Scene starts out with Griffin and Cadence in Cadence's room
"So, I'm sorry that I overreacted about Ramon and you." Griffin said while he kept on touching my leg. "I just I'm jealous, that he knows you in that way."
"What way?" I asked, cautiously pulling out my phone. "We haven't slept together Griffin."
"I know that," Griffin chuckled.
I sat up and turned around to face him, "And how do you know that?"
Griffin obviously realized what he had said and started leaning towards me and playing with my hair, "Griffin you can't just do that, whenever you think I'm mad at you. I promise I won't be mad if you answer the question."
"It's just if you two had slept with each other; I would kind of feel the weirdness between you two."
"So there isn't any weirdness, now?"
"There is some, but I think it's more between all three of us then you two. Do you want there to be some weirdness?"
I looked over at him and shook my head no, then I laid back down and stared at the ceiling, until he decided to get on top of me and start kissing me. But I pushed him off of me, "I'm not really in the mood."
"For some odd reason, whenever we talk about him or he's around; you don't seem to be in the mood anymore."
"Are you saying something?" I said sitting back up.
"No, I was just expressing some thought in the back of my head."
I got off of the bed and walked over to Griffin on the other side, "No offence sweetie, but please keep those thoughts in your head."
Later that afternoon Griffin had left to go pick up his sister from hanging out with, so I decided to drive by Liz's house to pick her up for a sleepover.
"Well, I'm pretty sure your boyfriend doesn't know you are stopping by here." Ramon said as he answered the front door.
"And I'm pretty sure that my boyfriend, doesn't need to. I'm just picking up Liz."
Ramon chuckled and closed the door. "Well, you might as well wait with me, because Liz just got in the shower." I looked over at him walking up the stairs and quickly stared over at the living room. "Come on Cadence, I'm pretty sure he won't kill you for hanging out with me. You are just waiting for my sister."
Ramon had that stupid, evil smirk on his face; but I was in a relationship. I would not cheat. "Fine, it's not like I can't leave when I want to." I said following him into his room.
"So, you guys hit the sack yet?"
I quickly turned around and threw one of his pillows at him, "You don't get to know that."
"Hey, we're supposedly friends. Friends tell each other things like that." Ramon took a step towards me and cornered me into the wall, "We are friends, right?"
"If we are then you should probably be a little bit farther from me." I replied looking straight into Ramon's eyes.
Ramon didn't say anything and just kept on leaning in closer to my face, until our lips brushed against each others.
"Please don't." I whispered.
"Then tell me to stop." Ramon breathlessly replied.
Ramon didn't seem to be wanting to stop, but nor did I tell him to. We both leaned in and our lips touched, but Ramon didn't make any movement, to kiss me or anything.
"Are you just going to stand there?" I asked pulling my mouth away from his.
Ramon pulled me against him and put his hands on the wall behind me, basically trapping me in place. "No, I just don't want to ruin your relationship with Griffin."
I pushed myself back against the wall and chuckled, "The guy has no problem doing that on his own." CRAP, "I'm sorry I take that back. You're right I have to go."
"Wait," Ramon said grabbing my arm. "You guys are having problems?"
"He hates you."
"The feeling is pretty mutual." Ramon scoffed.
"I know, and I hate that he doesn't trust me with you. And now I understand why." I said falling back on his bed. "We almost kissed, Ramon. And the sad thing is I wanted you to kiss me, I actually wanted you to do way more than kiss me."
"Oh." Ramon nodded.
"But I can't think these things, much less act them out. Griffin's right, we shouldn't be hanging out with each other alone."
"Ok then." Ramon nodded.
I got off of his bed and nodded back at him, "I'm going to go see if your sister is ready."
"Yeah, see you around."
"So, are we seriously going to sit around and not talk about my brother and you?"
"Wait, what are you talking about?"
"I saw you come out of his room, and when you two were on the wall in his room; the door was still open. Now, what happened?"
I shook my head and took some popcorn, "Nothing. Like we didn't do anything, we were going to kiss but we didn't. He said that he didn't want to ruin Griffin and I's relationship. But griffin is doing that perfectly on his own."
"Sweetie, when you kiss Griffin was is the first thing you think of?"
"The fact that he only kisses me when he knows I'm either upset or angry about something. And that he always tastes like bananas."
"Now what do you think about my brother?"
"Yeah, my mind literally goes blank. And I just can't move anymore."
"Well, maybe that's the problem. Kiss Griffin the way you kiss Ramon, just go blank."
I guess Liz was right, I mean you are supposed to be more focused on the guy you're kissing and not what he tastes like or why he kisses you. "Ok, fine but I'm sorry."
"For what?" Liz asked, while straightening her hair.
"For like making it weird with your brother and all."
Liz started laughing and put the flat iron down and turned to me, "Cads I'm dating your ex-boyfriend. If there is anyone who should be sorry it should be me. And it's fine, I mean you guys are cute."
"So are you and Zander."
"Haha the bull we tell each other."
"That's what best friends do."
The next day Griffin came over to drop by my jacket that was left in his car. I saw his car pull up onto my driveway, crossing over Liz on the floor and out of my room; I ran downstairs in my One Direction Pajamas.
"Hey," I said cheerfully opening the front door.
"You're rather cheery this morning; I'm guessing you and Liz had a fun night."
I nodded and grabbed the jacket from him and threw it on the couch and turned back to him. "How was your night?"
"It was pretty chilled. Ed came over and spent the night in my sister's room; so it was pretty weird. But hey, I guess that kind of stuff is bound to happen sometime."
"Wait, your parents were home?"
"No, they are away on a conference trip. They'll be back next week."
"Oh that's cool. So well Liz is still sleeping, so I can't really invite you in, but we can hang out later on or something like this afternoon?"
"Yeah, actually I can't this afternoon. Ramon randomly called me and said for us to hang out, since you know we're going to try to work this 'friends' thing out."
My eyes lit up and I giggled, Ramon calling Griffin to fix things. "Oh wow, that's um interesting. I hope that you guys have fun and don't kill each other."
"Yeah, I'll try not to." Griffin said planting a kiss on my cheek.
"Wait." I said pulling him back towards me, "Just in case you guys do kill each other. I would like a proper kiss goodbye." Griffin pulled me in one arm and swung me around.
"I have no objections to that."
Our lips touched and instantly Griffin lifted me up to where my feet were off of the ground again, and I was against the door. His lips were so cold, but I didn't care. The fact that I was off of the ground made this kiss much more ecstatic then it really was.
I pulled away for a second and looked into those darling eyes of his, "Why do you always taste like bananas?"
He shrugged and put me on the ground and gave me one last peck on the lips. "I'll call you."
"I'll answer." I breathlessly replied.
I kissed him and I broke away just to ask him why he tasted like bananas. Something was obviously wrong with me or something was wrong with Griffin and his obsession with bananas.
"So are we actually going to The Vildor's party tonight?"
"Yeah, I got a text from Shelbie that everyone at the school will be there. Maybe you can invite Griffin and get your mind off of him tasting like bananas." Liz laughed.
"I just don't get it, even this morning when he stopped by; he tasted like it. And god you know how much I hate bananas, they make my throat sting."
Liz flipped her hair to the side, and replied. "Why don't you just tell him you hate bananas?"
"Yeah and why don't you just tell Zander that that tattoo on your hip is fake?"
"Touché. Then just don't kiss him, until you see that he has something else to eat. "
I ignored Liz and walked over to my closet and picked something out and set it out on the bed. "Hopefully this party has some strong tasting alcohol."
"Come on, you know who Shelbie brothers friends are, of course there will be some strong tasting alcohol."
It was Zander, Ramon, Liz, Griffin and I driving in Ramon's car to the Vildor's party. It was a pretty awkward car ride, since I felt bad that Ramon was sitting alone in the front, so halfway there I jumped in the front seat.
"What are you doing?" Ramon whispered.
"I felt bad that you were all alone up here; don't worry he won't mind." I said turning back to Griffin and smiling; only to get a faint smile back.
"It's your death, not mine." Ramon smiled, while turning onto the street corner of the Vildor's. "Alright, everyone out."
Griffin and I got out and walked into the house and walked to the back of the house where we thought it was most quiet, but there was so many people in the house; no place was quiet.
"So, is Shelbie your friend?"
"Yeah, we have some classes together. She and her brother are pretty cool." I said kind of shouting in his ear, to block out the music.
Griffin chuckled and pulled out a pack of gum from his pocket, "Want some gum?"
"Oh sure." I looked down at the packet and it was banana flavored. "Actually never mind."
"Oh ok." Griffin replied, by putting the pack back in his pocket and taking the gum out of the wrapper.
I quickly grabbed the gum and rolled it into a ball and throwing it across the room. Griffin watched it fly and turned back to me and shrugged, "Um was that one poisonous or something?"
"Ok then, thank God I have more." Griffin awkwardly chuckled.
I grabbed the packet and put it in his jacket pocket. "Maybe we can find some other gum."
"Okay then, you want to tell me why?"
Ramon passed by us, and Griffin quickly jumped up and grabbed him. "Hey."
"Ramon, would you like some gum?" Griffin asked while pulling out the pack.
"Oh sorry, I don't like banana flavored anything."
Griffin scoffed and turned towards me, "You don't like bananas do you?"
"I can tolerate them-"
I took a deep breath in and stood up from the chair, "NO! Okay I hate bananas, I hate anything with bananas and I hate the fact that whenever I kiss you, that's all I taste."
"So you're going to get mad at me, because I like bananas. Cadence do you know how incredibly stupid that sounds?" Griffin shouted at me.
"Almost as stupid as I sounded when I said that I would go out with you." I shouted back.
"Well it's almost as stupid as me thinking that I'm okay with you and Ramon hanging out."
"I'm tired of this."
"Um as much as this would bring me publicity; I think you guys should take this somewhere else. Like maybe somewhere quieter." Shelbie, said cutting in.
"Cadence, we have to learn to compromise if we are going onto make things work with each other."
I shook my head no and removed Griffins hands from my face. "I don't want to compromise with you about everything, it gets on my nerves that we've been arguing since day one. And day one was like four days ago."
"You really think it's fair that you two get to hang out, after you guys have had history?"
"I don't understand why not, I mean you let me hang out with Zander. What is the difference?"
"THE DIFFERENCE IS THAT," Griffin calmed down and lowered his voice, "I see how he looks at you. And I see how you look back at him."
"I have a headache." I whimpered.
"You look at him in a way that you would never look at me; you look at him; like you wouldn't care if he broke your heart a thousand times. You'd still go back to him, Cadence I really like you. Meet me halfway and stop hanging out with him."
"No." I stood up from the little bench I was sitting on and walked straight up to Griffin. "No, I don't tell you who you can and can't hang out with. So you can't do that to me either."
"Why don't we just go back to the party? And just forget all about this." Griffin said grabbing my hand.
I quickly pulled my hand from his and shook my head no, "No, I don't want to forget all about this. I don't want to keep talking about this; and I don't want to keep feeling like I'm doing something productive by staying with you."
"I'm sorry but I'm just wasting time, by thinking that we can work." I said backing away from him. "We obviously can't."
"We can work something out."
"No, we can't. Maybe you can, but I don't want to anymore."
Griffin sat back down on the bench and nodded, then looked up at me. "Answer me this, though. Do you love him?"
"I'm sorry this didn't work out." I sadly sighed, completely ignoring the question.
"Me too." Then he stood up again and walked over to me, "But that wasn't my question. Do you love him?"
