Fox

It was dark, very dark, too dark for a human but enough for the fox. He trotted through the silent woods, his wet nose glistening when it caught the moonlight. He crouched down, a young rabbit sat in a clearing. The fox's ears were flat against his head and his slender legs moved with amazing precision. With small paws making no sound he crept up to the rabbit. Suddenly he leapt from the ferns he used as cover and the rabbit was his. He gave a small strangled bark of joy at his victory.

At that sound dogs started barking and the lights of a nearby house flickered into life. I looked out of my window and saw him as he saw me. Then he slowly turned and padded off into the wood, his tail giving me a farewell salute as he left.
