Sunset Sonata

Round and round we go up and down

From the low to the glory of the crown

Shielding our eyes from blood orange light

While eagerly awaiting the soft kiss of night

Laughing, we descend upon an awestruck crowd

Forgetting the god they disavowed

Hearts racing on a rocket to the stars

The motion smoothing out our fading scars

Onward, upward we dare to climb

Lost in the deadly passage of time

Before we can even stop to ask how

Our reign ends, we take our bow
