Hi everyone, this my first story on here and I hope you enjoy, a quick thanks to MercedesPheonix for reading though this and making sure I don't make a fool of myself

Prologue

I opened my eyes but couldn't see anything though the cloth coveringthem. I could hear several voices and sense life-forces nearby, but I couldn't feel Cameron's. I didn't know if that meant he was dead or just had been taken away (I really hoped it was the latter). Either way, I knew I was dead if I didn't come up with a plan soon.

Now there were footsteps coming towards me, heavy and purposeful. They were telling me that he was here for me.

"Erica Nicole Lynn, class A vampire. Hair color: blonde, height: 5'3", chosen mate: not chosen, parents: information pending, age: unknown," a distinct male voice said.

I froze. How did these people know so much about me?

Chapter 1: Just Another Day?

I sat in government class at the end of the day, and like every other high school junior, I snuck peaks at the clock as I waited for school to end.I let the thrum of bored life-forces lull me into my sketches. I glanced between the clock, my sketch pad, and my "models," the couple in the corner secretly holding hands.

Like every other teacher I have ever had, the knee-jerk action was to call onthe girl doodling to try to humiliate kids and make them pay attention, and like every other teacher, they were shocked when I knew the answer immediately. Mr. Barret grumbled but returnedto his lecture. I went back to detailing my sketch until the bell rang.

As soon as the tone had sounded most of the students were out of the room, ready to enjoy the weekend.

"Hey Brooke, Nick, wait up," I called, stopping my "models".

"What's up, Erica?" Nick asked with his arm slung over Brookes shoulder.

"I wanted you two to have this," I said, handing Brooke the sketch. "It's not my best work, but I thought you would like it."

"It's wonderful," Brooke replied, looking at it in awe.

I blushed. "Thanks."

"Come on, baby, we need to go so we don't miss the buss. Thank you very much Erica, it really is a very good drawing," Nick thanked with a smile.

I waved as they walked away to the bus before turning around and fighting my way to my locker. I was stopped, however, when two arms wrapped around my waist and picked me up.

"Cameron J. Crype, let me go this instant!" I screeched.

"Aw, come on, Rica, you're no fun," Cameron whined, coming in front of me.

"No you're just a jerk I am related to," I scowled. Cameron was a good looking boy, with short brown hair and the silver eyes of our kind; he stood 6'1" compared to my 5'3". If it weren't for our eyes, no one would believe we were related, simplybecause of my light blonde hair and light complexion.

"Love you too, Rica!" Cameron smirked, helping me put my text books away and get out my book bag. "So how was your day?"

"Same old, same old," I sighed. "And yours?"

"Eh, it was ok. I got to watch a first time sub flip out," Cameron said with a smile.

"Cam, you are a jerk," I told himmatter-of-factly.

Cam just shrugged. Suddenly, as if a switch had been flipped in his brain, he was in a hurry to get out of there."Come on Rica, I need to get home."

I followed Cam to the door in my own little world until someone ran into me with enough force to knock my sketch pad out of my arms. I was mad until I heard the kid speak.

"I'm so sorry, miss," he replied quickly, and his life-force rang withremorse.

"It's fine," I dismissed, accepting the book he had already gathered. From what I could tell he was good looking. He was only just shorter than Cam and had hair so dark brown it was almost black that fell into his eyes, which I had yet to see.

"You okay, Rica?" Cam asked, coming back around to find me.

"Yeah, I'm fine, Cam," I replied, noticing how the boy fidgeted as Cam came closer.

"Okay," Cam said, looking between me and the boy. Cam then backed up a few paces, giving me room.

"My name's Erica. Are you new here?" I questioned, trying to get him to look at me.

"Yeah," he murmured. "My name's Nathen." He finally looked up and I about dropped my book from shock.

"Erica, what's wrong?" Cam said seeing the look on my face.

I only had two words for him. "Silver eyes."
