` Betty heard the drilling noise. It sounded horrible, like a monster preparing to eat her. Then came a sharp, high pitched noise unlike anything else. Betty felt her eyes close. She heard a nurse's voice call out something. Something about… blood? Or a blood clotting? Something along those lines.

So far, though, Betty didn't care. She felt like she was drifting. Everything else was far, far away. The voices, the devices, everything; they felt like they were going on to someone else, not her. Then the pain started. It was a numbing pain, and it felt faint and distant, as though it wasn't real.

She didn't mind though, it was nice; the peace.

But then she saw something. She saw Dijon. Betty felt her form… her spirit, smile. Dijon was smiling at her. His mocha eyes and blonde hair were ruffled. He wore a makeshift jersey. Betty felt sad. That was the day they played a game called "football" with their father.

Then, memories flashed before Betty's eyes. She saw her cat Fluffins, who Dijon was reluctant to keep. Then she saw many memories of her family and important events; Dijon teaching her how to ride a bike, her father and Dijon fighting over something about "booze", playing with her homemade corn doll, fighting with Dijon on her birthday, Mother's Day when Dijon told her about their mother.

Many memories flashed through Betty's head. There were so many she became confused. It was as if her whole life flashed before her eyes. In all reality, she actually did. She saw everything; the good memories, the bad. It left her feeling… empty.

And, when that was over, a buzz-like sound came. It was the kind you heard when you heard nothing. Betty sat in this… space, waiting for something to happen when-

She saw a tiny light. She started to slip out of her dream-like state, back into the real world. She… felt hollow, as if she had a piece of herself ripped out, leaving a void.

It took her a minute to bear her surroundings, but she found where she was in a minute. She was in a different hospital room, surrounded by many beds with sleeping… children? Could those lifeless humanoids be children?

She was amazed. Were those actually… humans?

Just then, before Betty had a chance to find out, a voice filled her head.

"Sit up." It said. It was a cold, heartless-sounding voice, one that obviously was in control. Betty didn't know why in the world she would sit up but-

Her body automatically sat up. Betty felt her gaze shift, without her control, forward. Perplexed, Betty tried to look around, but her head wouldn't permit it. She was only allowed to stare at the white wall and the bed across from hers.

Then, Betty saw a child around her age staring back at her. He was in a metallic suit looking outfit, one that Betty couldn't describe. He wore a grey visor, which matched his suit, covering his eyes. He didn't even blink.

Betty tried to smile, or to do anything to show she was scared too, but she couldn't.

Then, the voice said again, "Stand up." Betty thought to herself, "Well, this is new!"

Her body stood up, like it was being controlled by someone else. Betty could see from the corner of her eyes that the others had stood up too.

Then it dawned on her. The others were Bionics, just like Dijon had talked about. She didn't feel scared though… or anything else for that matter. All she knew was to listen closely to the voice.

"Very good," the voice said. It wasn't audible for anyone else… was it? All Betty knew was that it was inside her head. It continued, "You will now be called by your individual names. Betty, you will now be called '317537'. Do you understand?"

Now Betty knew it was talking to her… but how? Slowly, she turned. Other 'children' were nodding. Betty turned back forward and nodded too.

"Good. Now, your first assignment is to go to your bunker. You do not need provisions. The only thing you will need it your equipment. You can go to room 121 for that. It will be in your cabinet. If we ever need to send you something it will go there. Understand?"

Betty nodded.

So she marched off. Where to? That she didn't know consciously anyway.

All she understood was that she would serve the Master.

Because the Master knew all.
