Twas the night before Reading Day
And all through the dorm
Not a person was studying, which was, actually, the norm.
The students weren't nestled
Nor snug in their beds,
Instead, trying to drive all thoughts of school from their heads.
With Sam with her laptop
And me holding mine,
We kept ourselves busy until testing time.
Our light strings were twinkling,
The colors so bright,
They brought some small cheer to the cold, velvet night.
The window was open
It let in the breeze,
And the wishes of students hoping to make C's.
The next day we studied
We read and re-read
Leaving us all feeling tired and dead.
We drank too much coffee,
To keep us alive,
The day of our testing had finally arrived.
The pencils were scratching,
All heads were bowed,
The teachers were preaching, "No cell phones allowed!"
Now students were laughing,
Light with relief.
The joy of completion was beyond belief.
The tests were all taken,
Yet we stayed up late,
After all there was nothing to do but to wait.
The semester was finished,
Over at last,
And all we could think was "It all passed so fast!"
The friends that we met,
The memories we made,
Are just as important as making the grade.
Fall 2011,
We will hold you dear.
Goodbye, friends and school, we'll see you next year.
