A strange day in July

A day at the lake

A boy and a girl

Skipping stones at daybreak

The first one he threw

Hit with a smack

After a second

The stone came back

She threw one this time

It went across the lake

But it, too, came back

Skipping back at daybreak

"One more time," he said

And he threw with all his might

But the third stone came skipping back

Back in the morning light

"Magic," he guessed

"No," she replied

"It's a special shield

With a castle inside

A castle with queens

And a castle with kings

But only I can see it

I see many things

I see horses and knights

Pretty princesses, too

I wish you could see it

I really do"

"I see it! I see it!

I see the castle with kings

The castle with queens

I see all those things!"

They tried to swim to it

But they could not swim

She went first

And then went him

A strange day in July

A day at the lake

A boy and a girl

Drowned at daybreak
