If I had been an artist
I would have painted you
canvases of swirling colors
swoops of light and blooming flowers.
If I had been an architect
I would have designed a glorious landmark
carved from marble
gilded on the corners
and crowned with a silver dome.
If I had been a sculptor
I would have created your likeness
chipping away day after day
over a block of limestone.
If I had been a singer
I would have crooned
sweet melodies lingering
on the low notes
sweeping off through velvet harmonies.
But I am a composer
so I will crouch over the piano
to pluck out notes until I have written
a sonata that matches your beauty
and one day
I may play it for you
