The Melody of Pavane

As the music starts, so does my heartbeat

Muscles twitching in anticipation of the rhythm

Then I hear it- a haunting melody

Clear as glass, and delicately low

The cool, clear sound soars

And my soul goes up to meet.

A second tune, sweet as honey

Heart-rending, tantalisingly close...

Slows down, repeating again

Oh, so carefully, so gracefully,

The music winds itself

Tangling my heart in ribbons daintily.

The full tutti, a succulent harmony

Rising above all else

Sending me into joyful oblivion.

Enclosing the harmony sings a low chorus

Taking over the overtone

Releasing my body from the intensity.

Quivering gently, the music is echoed-

Softly, exquisitely excruciating

Running lightly over the key,

The elegant minor

Beautifully fashioned

Is sweetly in my ears heard.

One final time, an ethereal tone

Pavane finishes- a gossamer song

Rare and delightful

How luckily I heard

The beauteous symphony

Made for my ears alone.
