"Bye mum," I shouted from the doorway, waving as she pulled out the driveway. Maxwell pushed the door open a bit further so he could squeeze into the doorway. He started waving at her car as it drove down the round, and then proceeded to shout weird phrases he'd heard from the television at her.

"See you on the other side!"

"Goodbye, dear friend!"

"She'll be home soon Maxwell, come back inside," I said to him, stifling a giggle.

"Au Revoir Mama," He shouted.

Finn came down the stairs and shot me a puzzled look.

"What's going on?"

"Oh, Maxwell speaks French now, no biggie," I giggled.

Finn glanced at me and then looked down at Maxwell. Maxwell giggled and dribbled a bit of chocolate drool.

"That's gross Maxwell!" I gagged, turning away.

Finn smiled a genuine smile that he only usually does around Maxwell.

"Have you been eating chocolate biscuits? Shall we go get another one?" He grinned.

Maxwell giggled and nodded, following Finn into the kitchen. Just as I was shutting the door, Maxwell turned and ran back over to me.

"Lizzybeth, if you love someone, you have to let them go," He said in a serious little voice.

I burst out laughing. He stared at me sternly.

"Okay Maxwell, thanks for that," I said, biting my lip to try to stop myself laughing.

He nodded and ran back into the kitchen. I shut the door and sighed. Random things like that, make you happy to have brothers rather than sisters.

Finn made pasta with tomato sauce and put four bowls onto the table. His pasta was in his special Finn bowl. Not many people know that Finn really enjoys cooking. Cooking and drawing. But he has made it quite clear many times, that in no uncertain terms may anyone ever find out.

Once the two boys had finished their pasta and had a small bowl of ice-cream for pudding, they sat back down by the television to watch a kids show involving adults acting like idiots and losing all their dignity by dancing and singing around in public. They were the two boy's idols. I think, to be honest, they're a bad influence. If my brothers acted like that, they would be put in a mental hospital. I mean, especially if they started talking to stuffed animals and puppets.

"Boys, its seven o'clock, time to go upstairs," I said, walking into the living room and switching the television off. The boys started shouting and complaining, calling me an idiot and a baby.

"Maxwell and Lane, get upstairs, brush your teeth, get in your jammies, choose a film and get into bed!" Finn said firmly.

They immediately got up off the sofa, and started up the stairs, with only the minimum of insults and grumbles.

Finn waited until he heard them walk into the bathroom before he started clearing up the bowls from dinner. I carried the cups through and put them in the sink, pouring out my little brother's left over lemonade.

"When will dad be home?" He asked.

"I think he's working late again, otherwise mum would have said. He doesn't usually get home till ten-thirty anyway," I sighed, putting the half empty jar of pasta sauce back in the cupboard.

"Right, okay. You're on teeth cleaning duty, I'll do pyjama's, you do films and I'll do bed." Finn decided.

"What if I want to do bed?" I asked, angry he had assumed he's in charge.

"I don't really care. I'm oldest, I'm in charge. It's the way of life little sister. Why, did you want to do bed?" He smirked.

"No," I muttered.

I trudged up the stairs and opened the door of the bathroom, instantly wishing I hadn't. There was water all over the floor, and toothpaste was everywhere. Maxwell's face was covered in it, and Lane had it all over his clothes.

Maxwell turned and smiled at me, showing toothpaste covered teeth. I sighed and rolled up my sleeves.

Leading them out of the bathroom ten minutes later with clean teeth, I took them to their bedroom and told them to wait for Finn. I went over to the top of the stairs and shouted for Finn to take over. He came jogging up the stairs and into their bedroom. I went back downstairs and into the living room, turning on the T.V as I collapsed onto the sofa. I changed channels from the boring sports channel Finn was watching and grinned when I saw my favourite ultra-fake reality T.V show was on.

You stole my boyfriend!

I didn't steal him! For God's sake Lauren, just move on!

You're meant to be my best friend Sammy! How could you do this to me?

How could Sammy do that to her? I thought sadly. Sammy had been my favourite.

Josie and Rachel were sitting round a table at their favourite bar.

So OMG, have you heard about what happened between Sammy and James?

OMG! You haven't heard? OMG! Basically babes, Sammy is with James now and Lauren only just found out! He's been cheating on her since like forever!

I know!

Was that why she was crying, bless her?

She was crying? OMG where?

She came out of his house crying yesterday, and I didn't know why! I was round Tammy's, so that's when I saw her!

I know!

Anyway, rather than talking about their love lives, anything happening in yours?

Well, actually, I've been meaning to tell you!

I missed what Rachel had been meaning to say, because Finn came down the stairs.

"Maxwell's asleep, Lane's watching a film," He reported.

"Oh, you didn't have to do that, I was going to set the film up," I said, surprised Finn had done something unnecessarily.

"It's fine. What you watching?" He asked, sitting down next to me.

"Oh, this new reality show, 'the girls in the city',"

"Cool. Who's that?" He asked, pointing at Rachel.

"That's Rachel. She's a total gossipy cow. Bit like Rebecca really." I said spitefully, casting a sideways glance at Finn to see his reaction.

He seemed completely unaffected by what I had just said.

"She's not that bad," he shrugged.

"She totally is." I sighed, "Anyway, what's happening, are you back with her now?"

He shrugged again, eyes glued to the T.V.

"Yeah, I think so." He answered calmly.

"Great," I murmured.

"I don't understand why you like her! After everything, why would you get back with her? We both know you could get any girl you wanted, so why Rebecca?" I shouted.

He stared at me, surprised at my sudden outburst.

"I really liked Lily, and then she acted like I was nothing. Most girls just like me because, well, i'm super fit. I liked Lily because I thought she really liked me. I was wrong, and now I'm angry with her. If I have to be with Rebecca to get back at her, I'll be with Rebecca."

I stared at him. "My God, Finn, you have feelings?!"

"Shut up."

We sat watching T.V in silence for a while.

"But, I don't want you to be with her. I hate her! Can't you ditch her for my sake?" I begged.

Finn stared at me. Then he burst out laughing.

"Yeah, I don't think so," He laughed.

I scowled.

"Look, Liz, it's not about you anymore. I'm not trying to annoy you, this is between me, Lily, and my gorgeous girlfriend Rebecca."

I sighed. Part of me was so angry that Rebecca had weasled her way back into Finn's life. The other part of me was thinking 'who cares. Life's too short. Why not be friends with Lily, try and get on with Finn (or at least stay out of each others way) and enjoy life.'

I was going with the other part of me.

"She's not that gorgeous." I laughed.

"Psht, yeah yeah, whatever," Finn grinned.

Who's side are you on, Georgie?

Sammy's. Lauren's an idiot.

Lauren's my best friend...

Oh sorry Melissa. She is an ugly weirdo though, isn't she?

Finn and I laughed at the dirty look Melissa gave her.

We suddenly heard the door open and Mum came walking into the living room. She looked puzzled at the two of us sitting together on the sofa, laughing.

"Oh thank goodness. You haven't killed each other!" She laughed, though she was obviously relieved.

"Nah, we're good; right Liz?" Finn asked, turning to me.

I shrugged.

"I wouldn't say 'good'. More like, alright. We're alright," I grinned.

He laughed.

"Whatever, I'm tired. Later Loser," He grinned, jogging up the stairs to his bedroom.

"Was everything okay?" Mum asked nervously. She obviously wasn't used to me and Finn acting friendly around each other.

"Yeah, mum, don't stress. It was fine."

I bounced up the stairs and into my room, where I literally collapsed onto my bed. I was exhausted. Brothers are hard work.
