Hiii guys! New book! It's only the first chapter, but tell me what you think! I think this one is going to be my favorite! :)

Everybody has at least one person they just cannot stand. Think about it. Somebody out there makes you want to empty your stomach. Well, ask me and I can answer in a heartbeat: Derrick Ames.

The most arrogant, narcissistic, cocky jerk to ever walk on this earth. The sound of his voice pretty much triggers me to be sick. Let's not talk about what would happen if I had to look at him.

Derrick's little sister, Alicen, is my best friend and next door neighbor. I met Alicen when I was only 10, but I'd never been given the pleasure of meeting Derrick, notice the intense sarcasm. Thank god. When Derrick turned eleven, his parents sent him to live with an uncle in California, far away from our Florida town.

The reason I hate Derrick? The first words he said to me were, "Want to have phone sex?" I had interrupted a phone conversation between him and Alicen.

Now normally, I would have just shrugged that off, but I had never even said two words to this guy!

"No?" I replied, just barely 13 at the time, while Derrick was only 14.

"Your loss, babe." he said. "I'm about as sexy as they come."

My face had turned bright red as I could feel my temper rising. "I'm not sure if you've ever been told this, but you're kind of an ass." I said.

"And you're kind of a bitch." He said. "Give the phone back to my sister. You're pissing me off."

I handed the phone to Alicen and looked at her with a confused expression. I had literally talked to the guy for five seconds, and I already hated him.

"Hey Derrick." She paused. "Why would you say that? She's not that bad!" Ali said, looking at me.

You could say that we didn't really get off to the best start.

Four years and many heated conversations later, I still hated Derrick. Now even more than before. From what I had figured out, Derrick slept with every girl in the world. Also, he thought he was the sexiest member of the male species to ever walk the earth. Yeah, right.

I guess Ali figured it was funny all those years ago to give Derrick my number. Ever since then he's literally been harassing me. He'll send me the rudest text messages at the most random times.

I'll never understand why he thinks it's so funny to pick on me. I hate him. A lot. I've never had a civil conversation with him. All we do is argue! He'll pick and make fun of me, I tell him he's a conceited whore, and he tells me I'm a stuck up bitch.

Same thing every time. Well, let's just say I could go my whole life without meeting Derrick.

I have this conversation with myself pretty much every time I go to Alicen's house. I sighed as I pulled open her front door, not knocking. Her parents consider me almost like their second child, so they always welcome me.

I walked up the stairs just in time to hear Ali on the phone. "Don't talk about her like that!" I groaned out loud as I turned the corner to face the door to her room.

"I'm so sick if you being mean to her! Ericka's great, and you're great too! You just have a misunderstanding. Don't talk bad about my best friend, just like I tell her not to talk bad about my brother!" She said, sounding seriously angry.

"Alicen, I'll talk bad about him if I want." I said, stepping into the room.

She shot me a dirty look before returning to her conversation. "No, that's not her."

"No, you can't talk to her." She said, rolling her eyes at the phone.

"Because she doesn't want to talk to you!"

"Derrick, I swear. Fine. Here." She said, handing the phone to me.

I shook my head. "Absolutely not. I refuse to talk to him." I said, walking away and plopping on the bed.

"God you two are so exhausting! You're like five year olds!" She shouted, and then paused as I heard Derrick's muffled voice. "Derrick, no! She'll kill me!"

"Why can't we just wait until-"

"No. You're right. Good point. Okay, yeah. Fine. I'll do it."

"Do what?" I asked, not sure I wanted to hear Ali repeat one of Derrick's smartass comments.

"Ericka, I really hate to be the one to break this to you. Really, I do. Derrick wanted to tell you but since you're both being toddlers, he's making me tell you. He's going to be living here. Dumbass here got kicked out of his school in California, and now he's being forced to come home." She said, watching my expression.

"Funny. Very funny. I expected this from Derrick, but now he's got you lying to me too? That's a new low, even for Derrick." I said, making sure my voice was loud enough so he could hear me.

Derrick's parents hate him. There is absolutely no way they would let him move back in.

They have a good reason to hate him too. When Derrick was around ten, he started rebelling. He did everything he could to make his family miserable. The final straw was when Derrick tried to set his family's house on fire.

His parents sent him away, and he's been there since. I don't know how Ali can stand to get along with him. When I ask her about it, all she says is, "Ericka, he's my brother. I love him no matter what."

Alicen slapped me on the side of the head, bringing me back to the current moment, and I turned to glare at her. "What the hell was that for?" I asked her.

"Derrick told me to!" she said, grinning at me.

"Well tell Derrick he needs to get a life, and stop trying to ruin mine." I said.

She tossed the phone to me. "You tell him, I'm not the messenger." She got off of the bed and crossed her room, turning on the TV.

I put the phone up to my ear, preparing to insult him.

"Hey, bitch. You coming with my sister to pick me up from the airport tomorrow?" Derrick asked.

I rolled my eyes. "Derrick, you've been calling me the same insult for what? Four years now? Come on. It wouldn't hurt to be original." I said sweetly.

"Are you coming to the airport or not?" He asked, completely ignoring my remark.

"Goodbye, Derrick. No, I won't be meeting you at the airport." I said, hanging up the phone. First of all, he's not really coming here, so I'm not meeting him. Second of all, why the hell would I want to see Derrick any longer than I have to?

I sighed, looking over at Alicen. "Why do you torture me?" I asked.

She rolled her eyes. "Ericka, why can't you and Derrick get along? You're my two favorite people in the world and you hate each other! You fight, and you've never even met! It makes no sense! It's almost as stupid as people who fight on the Internet."

"I'm going to get some food from your kitchen." I said, sending her a dirty look. Me and Derrick getting along? Yeah, right. Never going to happen.

I got off of the bed and made my way down the stairs and into the kitchen. I scanned the pantry, grabbing a bag of chips.

"Ericka! I didn't notice you were here! Hi, sweetheart!" Ali's mother said, smiling at me.

"Hey, Mrs. Ames!" I said, smiling. I looked around the house and noticed how unusually clean it was.

"Mrs. A, What's up with the excessive tidiness? Did you guys get a maid?" I asked.

"No, sweetheart. We're... Well... Uh... Alicen's brother... Our son will be coming home tomorrow." She said as several emotions went through her eyes. I saw anger, pain, and guilt all washed into about three seconds.

"So it's true?" I asked in disbelief.

"You already knew?" She asked me, equally shocked.

"When I got here he and Ali were on the phone, so they told me."

"Oh, well. I've got to finish the laundry now." She said, turning and walking away.

Well, that was weird.

Wait a minute. Did she just say Derrick really is moving here? Oh, no. That is not going to be good. I'm probably going to end up in prison.

I walked back into Ali's bedroom. I suddenly had no appetite. When I opened the door, I let out an audible groan.

"Mom told you, right?' Alicen said, noticing my awful mood.

"Yes, she told me. We're going to be hanging out at my house from now on." I said, glaring at her.

"Yeah, good luck with that. Your mom never allows you to have friends over." She said, laughing.

"Well, she's going to have to make an exception." I said.

Just as Ali opened her mouth to reply, her phone rang, causing her to jump. She looked back up at me with a silly grin on her face.

"I'm guessing that's Justin?" I said, seeing her face light up.

She smiled and answered the phone, walking towards her bedroom window.

Justin is Alicen's boyfriend. They're great together. Honestly, I could see them getting married. Justin is probably the best boyfriend any girl could have, and they've been together for close to two years.

Lucky Ali. I don't even talk to any guys, hardly. The only guy I talk to is a complete jerk that I would like to punch in the face. Well, I could actually punch him in the face tomorrow. The thought put a smile on my face as I sat on Ali's bed, letting her finish her phone call.

I woke up to my phone ringing incredibly loud, and I checked the clock to see that it was already 5:00 PM. Alicen and I had stayed up until all night long, and then I had to run a few errands, so I didn't actually get to sleep until around noon.

I answered the call, snapping crankily into my phone. "What?"

For a second, the only reply was someone crying. I looked at the caller ID. Alicen?

"Ali? What's wrong? Why are you crying?" I said, getting nervous. Ali rarely cries, unless it's something big.

"J...Justin... Got into a car accident with his mom. He's okay, but his mom is in critical condition." She said, breaking into sobs again. Oh no. Alicen is seriously close to Justin's family.

"What?! Ali, are you okay? What happened?" I asked her.

"I don't know! He just called me and told me he doesn't know if his mom is going to make it." Her voice cracked and she continued. "She's in critical condition. Ericka, what do I do?" She asked me in a panic.

"Go see her! And Justin needs you right now!" I said, not knowing what else to say.

"I want to! The only problem is I have to go pick Derrick up in like two hours! And my mom and dad both won't be home from work until way after his flight lands, so there's no way either one of them can do it!" She said, practically screaming in frustration.

Crap. Why do I have to be such a good friend? Ugh.

"Alicen, I'll pick him up." I said, cringing as the words came out.

"You will? Ericka, thank you so much! You are the best friend anyone could ever have! His flight lands at seven tonight. I really appreciate this. I have to go see Justin." She said, distraught before hanging up the phone.

What the hell did I just get myself into?

Sooooo? How was it? Vote and comment please! Also, make sure you check out my other book Never As It Seems! And by the way, I saw this on someone else's book, and I thought it was a really cool idea. She picked a song for every chapter, and then put what her favorite lyric was. I'm going to do something like that from now on, but I'll put why I think the song relates to the chapter. :)

So for this chapter, we have the song Hate by Plain White T's. The lyrics I like are :

"Hate is a strong word, but I really really really don't like you."

"Brought you around, and you just brought me down."
