Football is a pain in the ass…literally. Don't get me wrong, I love the sport, I actually am a major in basketball but I do play reasonably well in the sport that I am now beginning to hate.

"Evelyn, Watch out!" That's the last thing that I heard before I got knocked out. Ok, let me rewind a bit out here. Like every day, I looked forward to P.E. and playing against my best friend and her brother. What I did not expect was to be picked out as goalie. So long story short, in the middle of an intense game, somebody calls my name from the bleachers and as I turn to look around, I get kicked in the ass by a stray football, I fall, practically sprawled on the ground. As I massage my sore bottom and glare at the girl who hit the football, I get hit in the head by my enemy, who obviously meant to aim at the goal, not my precious little head.

So back to the present, I wake up and at first I start to see a blur but when my vision clears, I can make out three heads looming over me like Halloween lanterns. I groan when I try to lift my head but got a hand pushing me back down instead.

"I'm fine! Look, my head hasn't become a balloon or something." "Stay still kiddo, I'm going to get some ice for that bruise." I watched as my coach left the room in hurry. Mr. Pouble, my coach for seven years had gotten used to my head banging. Unfortunately, my best friend, Maria, had not. She had a nauseous look on her face as she studied me which made me wonder how bad I looked. Maria's sorry excuse of a brother, Jake, was grinning from ear to ear as though I was a new toy a kid would have got on his birthday.

Maria and I had met in kindergarten. We were best friends then and were difficult to separate even at that age. But one fine day, she got a bottle of coke to drink when I wasn't even allowed to drink colas. When she refused to share it with me, we got into a fight. Silly, I know. But we did make up after it. Maria had the looks any girl would want, brunette, brilliant blue eyes with sharp eyes and a pale complexion.

While Maria and I were on excellent terms, her brother and I were friends but those who simply had to compete with each in other in everything. I knew Jake in the 6th grade when he asked me out but I refused.

I, Evelyn Saunders was on the other hand very popular, not only for my skills in sports but because of my personality and looks. I had black hair which in the sunlight looked a light shade of brown. My blue eyes matched Marias and my caramel colored skin was in another word….cool.

I got up from the bed and looked at myself in the mirror and saw a big purple bruise on the left hand side of my head. I sighed and opened my bag and put on a shirt over my tank top. Usually when I ended up at the sick bed, I got the nurses permission and went back to class.

But I didn't feel so good. I glanced at Maria who was talking to Jake. "Hey guys?" Both of them turned to me with a questioning look on their faces. "I'm going back home. Don't want to sit back for history. See you guys later." I didn't wait for their reply and started to walk back home.

My father wasn't at home when I reached. We lived in an apartment just a few blocks away from the school. My mom had passed away while giving birth to me and I was the only child so it did get lonely at times. I spent a lot of time at Maria's house but this time I just went to lie down on the bed.

I heard my phone buzz and reached into my bag. I looked at the caller id and saw an unknown number calling but I answered it anyway besides my dad telling me not to."Hello?" "Hey honey, it's your father. I heard that u got sent back home. How're you feeling" "Fine" "Oh, Ok then, I have to go. I won't be there for supper so I just wanted to tell you that. I've kept the money on the fridge so you can either order or go to the Andrews' house ok? Bye."

I stared at the phone for a minute after the call ended. Strange as it seemed, I didn't know what my dad's profession was. We were kind of rich but my dad was always into his own work and never bothered to tell me most of his stuff.

My phone buzzed again this time signaling a text message .

From: Maria

Hey! Your dad just called. Wanna come over for dinner? Jake wants to tell you something related to your after school practice. See you at 7? Anyway I have to go, math is next.

Ciao.

I smiled as I read the message. Maria always knew what to do when my dad wasn't there, hell, she knew when my dad wasn't going to come for supper before I did.

I went into the kitchen and kept the money back in my wallet and went back to sleep.

So the 1st chapter is up. Will update next week but till then, enjoy! And don't forget to r&r
