Sweet Dreams

I fall asleep with him on my mind
I find I compare him to everyone
And yet he still remains my only muse
I have to catch myself
And force my thoughts of him away
To stop thinking of him
Of reading the only thing I have from him
Of breathing in the now fading scent of him
Of looking longingly at the picture of him
That should be long gone
Every night I dream of him
Sweet sweet dreams of him
Of beaches with pure white sand
Of otters playing in stormy gray waters
Of finding that breathtaking piece of coral
Of finally being able to reach it
After all the heartbreak it took to reach
I wake up smiling
And for a brief moment...
The scent of the ocean
And the sound of the waves wash over me
But then my sweet dream ends
And a tear rolls down my cheek
