EPILOGUE

THREE MONTHS LATER

"It's today, it's today!" Kate shouted, bouncing on the bed.

Alex groaned and pulled the duvet over her head. "Five more minutes, please!"

"It's today!" Kate chanted, leaning over Alex and peppering kisses down her exposed arms. "Come on, you promised."

Alex threw back the duvet and looked at her excited girlfriend through sleepy eyes. Her eyes were wide and awake and she had the biggest smile on her face. She looked like a kid at Christmas. Alex couldn't help but smile.

"You're so fucking adorable," she said, stretching and sitting up slowly. "How can I say no to such a gorgeous face?"

"Yes!" Kate crowed, leaning in for a kiss, which Alex gladly returned.

Alex slapped her hands against her cheeks and ran her hand through her hair a few times to try and wake herself up.

"Come on, come on, you look totally hot," Kate complained, perching herself onto a bar stool, her cast leaning out to the right. It was covered with drawings, messages, signatures, stickers, anything you can think of.

Alex smiled and walked into the kitchen. "What am I gonna do for your birthday next month if I'm doing this now?" she asked.

"I don't mind repeat performances," Kate replied, her voice dropping seductively.

Alex chuckled. "How can you go from being an excited kid one second to being a complete sex-crazed minx the next?"

Kate shrugged. "I'm just talented, I guess," she said, popping a chocolate chip into her mouth.

"Uh uh," Alex said, grabbing the bowl away from Kate. "You're eating all the fillings!"

Kate pouted and Alex put a chocolate chip between her teeth and leaned over the counter for Kate to get. Unfortunately, that led to a bit of a make out session, leaving the two of them breathless.

"I cannot wait until you're out of that thing," Alex said, running her tongue along Kate's bottom lip. "The things I'm gonna do to you…" She made a motion to bite at Kate and drew away reluctantly.

Kate leaned on her elbows and fanned herself with her hand. Her body temperature had just rocketed twenty degrees higher. Well, that's what it felt like.

In the three months that Kate had been incapacitated, Alex had done anything and everything for her without complaints. The only thing that had taken a beating, so to speak, was their very active sex life. Kate wasn't nearly as mobile as Alex and although they could have sex, it became very boring and monotonous. Both Alex and Kate had been counting down the days till Kate's cast could come off, and that day had finally arrived.

"How many do you want, babe?" Alex asked, pouring the pancake batter she'd just made into a pan.

"How about I just eat them off your body," Kate replied, still in a daze from their make out session.

Alex chuckled and raised an eyebrow at the faraway look on her girlfriend's face. "Tonight, my love. Make sure you get your Red Bull quota for the day."

"I think you'll be the one needing Red Bull," Kate retorted, smiling. "I've got weeks of pent up frustration just waiting to be unleashed."

Alex laughed and flipped the pancake. "I haven't left you completely unsatisfied, have I?"

"No," Kate conceded, "but it's not the same. I miss our bodies being meshed together." She pushed her hands together to emphasise her point.

"I know," Alex agreed. "I do miss being able to adore your whole body."

Kate blushed, remembering Alex's fondness for her toes, and feeling a little tug in her groin at the thought. Alex saw the look on her face and tried not to laugh.

"I'm sorry, babe, I didn't mean to make you…" Alex faltered, the laugh escaping.

Kate sighed in a huff and hopped off the chair. "I will be waiting in bed where you will apologise to me and my body. Several times, if need be."

Alex grinned and turned off the stove, putting the pan on an unused plate. They wouldn't want a repeat of the noodles incident a few months back. She climbed onto the bed over Kate and smiled.

"How can I ever make it up to you, my love?" she asked dramatically, before pressing her chest into Kate's and kissing her.

"Stop scratching!" Alex hissed, slapping Kate's hand away.

"I can't help it!" Kate whined. "It's so fucking itchy!"

"Language, Katrina," Clare's voice sounded behind them.

"Hi, Mom," Kate said in surprise. "Hey, Daddy. What are you guys doing here?"

"Oh, I told them they should see this," Alex said, smiling knowingly. She was getting a little payback for this morning, where they'd almost been late because Kate's sexual appetite had to be sated five times.

Kate glared at Alex who pulled a face. Kate was dreading what her leg would look like after three months of hibernation. It was embarrassing enough that Alex was going to see how unattractive she was, but now her parents would have more embarrassing stories to tell?

Kate gripped Alex's arm. "You're going to pay for this."

Alex smiled evenly. "I think I put in more than enough work this morning, darling. We're even."

Kate smiled to herself. Alex kept her guessing at every turn. After almost eight months together, things were still fresh and exciting between them. Granted, certain situations had played a role, but they'd gone on with their lives with no major disruptions.

"Ah, Ms. Du Toit," Dr. Naidoo greeted Kate. "Ready to get that cast off?"

"You have no idea," Kate replied, pushing herself up on her crutches. She detested the damn things, but she knew that she'd still have to use them whilst her leg was out of the cast for the first few weeks of physio.

Twenty minutes later, Kate was staring at a white chicken bone leg with unkept hair matted to the skin. She looked up at Alex in horror.

"Do you still love me?"

Alex laughed. "Of course I do, you dork. With physio and some TLC, we'll get that leg looking sexy in no time."

Clare and Derek chuckled at the look on Kate's face.

"Summer's coming up, Kitty," Derek commented. "You'll have plenty of time to get that colour back."

Kate groaned. "I can't go out with legs that are two different colours! That's just so not fair."

"It is an adjustment, Kate," Dr. Naidoo said. "Whatever you do, please make sure that you do your exercises and go to physiotherapy as scheduled."

"How much longer will she need to use the crutches?" Alex asked, knowing how much Kate detested the plastic things.

"At least a week, whilst she's putting weight on the bone. Once physiotherapy commences, we can re-evaluate. But that's something that the physio will decide."

"Cool," Kate replied. "So, are we good?"

Dr. Naidoo chuckled. "Not quite. I just need to test the movement and responses of your leg." He moved Kate's leg up and down at ninety degrees. He looked up at her. "Feel any pain?"

Kate shook her head. "Feels normal."

Dr. Naidoo rotated her ankle slowly, but Kate shook her head again.

"This is good," he said. "It looks like your break has healed very nicely. Alright, I'd like you to try and put a little pressure on it now. Just use one crutch." Alex helped Kate down from the table and handed her one crutch. Kate took a deep breath and slowly put her right foot down, taking a step. She let it out when the pressure didn't cause any pain. She smiled.

"It doesn't hurt at all," she said excitedly.

"Very good news, Dr. Naidoo said. "However, I do need you to use your crutches until your first physio appointment on Thursday. Are we agreed?"

"I'll make sure she does," Alex replied, smiling knowingly at Kate, who pulled a face at her girlfriend. Alex was always reminding Kate to use her crutches and opposed to hopping around on one foot.

"Then I think we're done," Dr. Naidoo said. "Good luck with your recovery."

"Thanks," Kate replied. "You're a rock star, doc."

"So there's no pain at all?" Hayley asked.

"Nope," Kate replied, slowly rotating her ankle. It felt amazing to wear normal jeans after three months of skirts and baggy pants.

"Three mojitos coming up," Alex said, sitting down at the table, automatically finding Kate's hand and lacing their fingers.

"So how did those taxi dudes enjoy their reward?" Hayley asked, leaning back in her chair.

Kate smiled. To pay Lionel, Sendiwe, Thabo, Nelson and Jacob back, she'd treated them to the final of the Nedbank Cup at the Cape Town Stadium. They had been in absolute awe the whole time, which had assured Kate that her reward had been perfect.

"They absolutely loved it," Alex replied. She pulled out her phone. "Check out the photos."

Hayley chuckled as she scrolled through random self-portraits and group shots of the five guys and Kate at the soccer game.

"Oh, I meant to tell you this juicy titbit I heard over the weekend," Hayley said, handing Alex her phone back.

"Oooo, I do always love me some good goss," Kate said. "Spill."

"Apparently Georgia has moved to Jo'burg," Hayley said.

Alex and Kate looked at each other and shrugged. "Good riddance," Kate said.

"Wait, seriously? That's all you have to say?" Hayley asked, holding up her hands. "She's gone! She's not gonna be popping up anywhere anymore."

"Hails, have you seen her popping up anywhere recently?" Alex asked, smiling.

"Well, no," Hayley admitted. "Whatever you said to her must've really worked."

Alex shrugged. "Must be all that Red Bull," she chuckled, waggling her eyebrows at Kate.

Kate laughed and pulled Alex's hand to her lips. "I love you, beautiful."

Alex leaned in. "I love you too."

"Guys, get a room."
