Helmet Of Salvation: KINGDOM

The Kingdom is at Hand

SWORD OF THE SPIRIT:

'And you shall be to Me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation.' These are the words that you shall speak to the sons of Israel.

Exodus 19:6

Lesson to learn: God sets aside actual people for Himself.

Blessing to enjoy: Being a holy nation of God.

Thought to carry: We are the citizens of a kingdom that is like no other kingdom available - the kingdom of God. Our King reigns over everything and created all, so our kingdom has no shortages of anything and we have no need or want of anything that will not be provided by our Holy King!

A Nice Place to Visit

In old cartoons, sometimes a character will say, "Whatever is a nice place to visit, but I wouldn't wanna live there!" That's my take on Earth. Even though it is cursed with sin and death, there can be no denying that God did some incredible work in creating it all. It has days of beautiful scenery, myriads of splendid colors that kiss each other across a glorious sky and statuesque trees that bear delicious fruits and beautiful flowers.

But, then there are the things of this world that are not of our kingdom - those things that are shaped in iniquity and formed in sin. All of the wicked things that plague societies all over this world and all of the immoral things that are merely a way of life down here.

It pleases me to know that eventually, when I am called home, I will be done with the troubles of the world and be in the presence of the Lord at all times. 'There's no place like home' is an understatement when you are a citizen of God's kingdom, which all who are born again in Christ are.

Exodus 19:5 gives the qualifications of citizenship in the kingdom of God - "If you will obey My voice and keep My covenant, then you shall be My own possession among all the peoples," God said. Those of us who have put on Christ and are now keeping His commandments… that's us! We are His own, and we are a kingdom of priests and a holy nation.

That means that in this world, though it is not our home, and though we are heirs to a precious kingdom, we have a job to do. Priesthood is ministry. We are servants of the people of this place. The Levites did not have land of their own amongst their brethren, because God wanted us to see the big picture - those who are set apart for His use have Him as an inheritance, but they also have a job.

The priests were responsible for the temple and tabernacle, in charge of working things out at the church, but also for helping the people deal with their sins. Though we no longer have sacrifices and laws and customs of society have changed, God has not. We have the same job today that they had back then, dedicating our lives to helping others deal with their sin.

We have the ability to lead by example - to imitate Christ and be the light of the world and the salt of the earth, as He has called us to. We have the duty to lead by following - to go out to where the lost are and to bring the Word of God to them, not just keep it to ourselves and to keep ourselves away from them. We have the power to do as God would have us to do - to love Him with all of our hearts, mind and soul and to love others as ourselves, through the Spirit of Christ that dwells in us and bears fruit in our lives. And we have the hope of glory, the joy set before us that our labor is not in vain… We expect with all our faith to one day see our Savior face to face and be home in the kingdom.

Therefore, we have to remain diligent in our daily walk with the Lord. We have to be sure that everything that we do, we do for His glory and to be steadfast and unmovable in our faith in Him, as we finish the journey through this land that we are currently visiting, but are in no way going to be forever.

Girdle of Truth: It's a new year! Time to get started on my current goals for my discipleship for Christ!

Shield of Faith: Life on earth is temporary. Live everyday like it's the last that I have before God comes to bring me home.

Sandals of Peace:

Dear Heavenly Father,

I pray that all of Your children on earth will take this time to remember that Christ said that we need to seek first the kingdom of heaven, and the other things will be added unto us. May we depend upon Your strength as we live life in this place, so that it's worldly things will not overtake us in our weakness. Let us prove to a lost and dying world that Your will is good, acceptable and perfect, through our sacrificial living and kingdom-minded ministry. Help me to be exactly what it is that You set me apart to be used for. In Jesus' Name, I pray. Amen.
