Chapter 12

I woke up in my bed at camp. My head hurt and I felt like something had been stolen from me. I pushed it aside and went on with my duties.

A year later, two new kids came to camp. I know, every now and then, a new kid will come around, but they were different. Something about the boy…

After they had been settled in at the Hermes cabin, I greeted them.

"Hello, I am Alex, your names are?" The boy spoke up. He had black hair and startling blue eyes, which reminded me of something, but I couldn't grasp it.

"I am Theseus, and this is Freya."

"Nice to meet you two. If you ever need anything, just go to that cabin." I pointed to my cabin.

"Thanks," Freya said. She had a voice like silk, which also reminded me of something I couldn't remember. I mentally screamed at myself for not remembering. Freya was cute, but I don't think she would like a son of Hades like me. I went through my activities as I usually did, and every now and then, something would remind me of that mystery so aggravating.

Six years later, when I was walking the coast. Freya, which I had gotten really close to recently, tackled me.

"Ow! What was that for?"

"Just because."

"Of course, get off."

"Fine," she grumbled. She helped me up and noticed I was wearing swim trunks.

"What to swim?"

"No, Poseidon would kill me."

"Not with me here." She dragged me out into the ocean and kept splashing waves at me. She dunked me and held me under for a second. I fought my way back to the surface.

"You are going down." I temporarily forgot about her ability to breathe underwater, so I dunked her then let her back up after about five minutes.

"I can breathe underwater, you know that right?"

"Yeah, I just forgot." A cold breeze rustled my dark hair. Shivering, Freya spoke.

"I-its c-c-cold up he-here. Let's g-go und-derwater." She pulled me down and made a bubble around us.

"Ah, much warmer." Freya laid down next to me in the bubble.

"I like you."

"You like me?"

"Yeah, how would you like to be my girlfriend?"

"I'd love to!" She hugged me real tight and we fell asleep. I didn't have any dreams, but I did have a feeling that I shouldn't have asked Freya to be my girlfriend, like I already had a girlfriend, but I clearly remember never having a girlfriend, so I don't know what to do.

When I woke, light was starting to shine through the water.

"Holy crap! Freya wake up! We have to get back to the cabins!" She shook her head, and rolled out of the bubble. With hesitation, I exited the bubble. I swam to the shore and raced to my cabin soaking wet. I changed into dry clothes right as the conch sounded that it was time to get up. Later, after finding out that my best friend was not a god, I told him about asking Freya out.

"Alex! How's it going?" Theseus patted me on the back.

"Not bad, Thes. Not bad at all." I grabbed hands with Freya.

"Dude! Since when?"

"Me too!" Theseus stated.

"You and Sarah?"

"Yeah, took her to the movies and asked her out afterwards."

"Great! Way to go. Well, she took me underwater yesterday, then I asked her and she fell asleep in my arms."

"Sleep," Theseus agreed. They left us alone for the night as I walked towards my cabin. I fell asleep with another dreamless sleep. Was Hypnos taking pity on me? A couple days passed without anything happening. I was on my way to sword practice when I was zapped away. I reappeared on Olympus wearing a tux.

"Why am I here?"

"You are my best man. I thought the wedding was going to happen later, but then Aphrodite switched it up on us."

"Whose wedding?"

"Mine! I am marrying Sarah. Sarah is going to become Mrs. Ellenmore!"

"Dude! Congrats!" After many long boring words, Zeus spoke the final words, "I now declare you man and wife. Theseus, you may kiss the bride." But instead of Theseus kissing Sarah, Sarah kissed Theseus. Applause rose from the crowd. They pulled away, both smiling. At the reception later, I ran into this girl. She fell on top of me. A memory flickered in my mind. I remember a girl just like this in a tent when it tipped over. Memories came flooding back. I remembered everything.

"Alex," she said.

"Angela," I countered in disbelief.

"You remember me!" I got up.

"I can't believe it. I thought I'd never see you again." I hugged her tight. I never wanted to let go of her. I was forced to when I heard someone clear their throat behind me. I looked back and saw Freya.

Holy crap. How will I explain this?

"Freya, this is Angela. Angela, this is Freya."

"What are you doing hugging my boyfriend?" Freya asked Angela.

"Technically, he is my boyfriend. But my idiot of a father erased his memories."

"That's not fair!"

"Life's not fair. Now shoo." Freya reluctantly walked away and pouted. I felt guilty that I hurt her feelings, but I got my Angela back, and nothing was gonna pull us apart this time. Angela told the other gods there was a meeting. She told everyone except Zeus. They made me a god. They raised their hands towards me, chanting in Ancient Greek, like I remembered when they took Angela from me. I rose from the floor as a golden light enveloped my body. I felt stronger and more powerful. Then I tumbled onto the floor.

"Welcome, Alexandrius, god of Shadow."

"Thanks Angel."

"No prob-"

"ANGELA!" A booming, demanding voice yelled. I turned to see Zeus.

"You made him a god?"

"Yes, father. Now you can't take him away."

"Yes I can. Alexandrius Cliffe, you are hereby banned from Olympus.

"No! I will not allow my son to be banned from Olympus," Hades bellowed.

"Too late!"

"No!" I screamed as I turned into a cloud of black dust and appeared in the Underworld.

"This sucks."

"Indeed it does," A voice behind me said. Hades followed me.

"I shall build you a castle by the Phlegethon, the river of fire."

"Thank you, father. May I bring my lady down with me, to be with me for eternity?"

"As long as you are happy, I am happy." I sent an IM to Angela saying that she is welcome to live here with me. In an instant, she was next to me.

"Alex! I cannot tell you how mad I am at my father."

"Bah, forget about it, I should have seen it coming. But," I pulled some away some shadow and made a ring. "Will you become my beautiful wife for all eternity?" Her hands flew to her mouth.

"Yes! I will! I do! Whatever!" She wrapped her arms around my neck. I kissed her cheek.

"Were you watching me from the day we parted?"

"Yes," she admitted.

"Can you tell all the other gods that we are getting married? One by one?"

"Of course." She kissed me. She teleported away. That night, she came back.

"Okay, everyone knows now. Well, except for my dad. But I expect him to find out soon." As if on cue, thunder shook so hard that we could feel it down here.

"Well, he knows now."

"You know, why wait? Why don't we just get married now?"

"We have to write our vows." I snapped my fingers.

"Done." She snapped her fingers.

"Also done. We also have to find a dress." I sized her up, thinking of what dress she would look good in. I waved my hand and a black dress that was tight at the top and scrunched together at the waist then flowed outward at the bottom that stopped at her shins.

"Wow! This is just the way I like! Can you make it a little shorter though?" I cut some of it off so that it stopped a little below her knees.

"I'm not letting it go any higher."

"This is fine." I thought to Aphrodite.

We have decided to do the wedding now.

"You don't want to wear high heels, do you?" She looked at me and the answer was obvious.

"Then have these." I formed shoes out of shadow, and I was really beginning to like that. They were black Converse high-tops that looked like high heels.

"Aw, thank you Alex."

"No problem."

"I'll see you at the wedding." She kissed me and ran away to where Sarah and the other goddesses were waiting. I heard a shrill scream of pure happiness. I was finally going to have my Angela, and no one was going to stop me. I changed into my tux. When I walked outside, Theseus was waiting for me.

"Sup, man."

"Hey. I'm so excited."

"I was too, still am, but I have a question. You never told me that I had a sister."

"Zeus erased my memories."

"Ah, that explains it."

"Yeah. But I have her now, so what could go wrong?"

"Heard that one before."

"Yeah, kind of cliché, but it doesn't matter. I have Angela, and that's all that matter to me."

"I'm glad for you, man. But after this, you are not following me to our honeymoon location."

"Where are you guys going?"

"Paris. Sarah doesn't know. She thinks we are going to Rome and Greece, but I actually ordered Paris, the city of love."

"I hope you have fun. I think we are going to Cork, Ireland. Angela has always wanted to go there. I am just going to teleport there because if I take a plane." I motioned a slice across my neck.

"Yeah, I know it. My dad can be, temperamental sometimes."

"I know." A bell sounded in the distance.

"Time to get married."

"Congrats, again." Everyone took their places on the stage. I was shaking, that's how excited I was. When I saw Angela, I almost feinted. She was so beautiful, the dress swooshing around her legs, her shoes flickering between images. For one second, they were converses; for another they were high heels. Her hair was simple, yet elegant. It was tied back, with two curls of black hair framing her face. When she grabbed my hand, my thoughts came back to reality. I took her hand and turned to my father. The ceremony had begun. After a couple minutes, he spoke the words I was waiting for.

"Alex, I declare you man and wife. Kiss the bride, my son." I took no time in doing so. Have you ever seen how the dancers on TV shows take their partner when they kiss them? If you can imagine that, then you know how I kissed Angela. Everyone clapped.

At the reception, I cut a piece of the cake and fed it to Angela as she fed a bite to me. I just let Aphrodite pick the cake, so I was amazed when it tasted like strawberries. Afterwards, I talked to Theseus.

"Hey Theseus."

"Congrats, man."

"Yeah, it felt like it was just the other way around," I joked.

"Haha, yeah. Well, it was." We shared a laugh. Then Angela came up. She acknowledged Theseus, then turned to me.

"You ready to go?"

"Ready when you are. You just gonna keep the dress?" I asked.

"Yeah, probably."

"Then let's get out of here." I felt a twist in my gut as I closed my eyes, skeptic about this whole teleporting thing. When I opened them, we were standing at an intersection near the hotel we would be staying at. Then the grey clouds in the sky started to cry. As beads of water collided with my body, I pulled out an umbrella and handed it to Angela. I imagined myself in more comfortable clothes. When I looked back at myself, I had on my black jeans and t-shirt with a skull surrounded by shadow. I also had my favorite leather jacket on. The evil gel Persephone put in my hair to make it stay down was gone. My switchblade knife was clipped to the inside of my pocket and I had a black watch on my wrist.

When'd that get there? I thought.

You're welcome, Alex.

Thanks, Dad.

Well, my dad got me a watch. I thought nothing of it, but I had a feeling that it would save my life later. After we got checked in and arrived at our room, which was on the top floor, we just collapsed on the bed. I was exhausted, and apparently so was Angela. She was sleeping silently in no time. A cool breeze flowed through the room, so I pulled a thin sheet over her. She grabbed the sheet in her sleep and snuggled up against my chest. I wrapped my arm around her shoulder and I too, fell asleep. For what seemed like only a few seconds, I slept soundly. Then Angela woke me up.

"Alex, wake up. It's been over an hour."

"Uh-huh, yeah. Sure, whatever you say."

"Okay, so does that mean you'll get me a BMW?"

"No," I laughed. "Just kidding, sure. Anything you like."

"Just get up sleepy."

"Why? I'm tired." She punched me in the stomach.

"How about now?" She asked.

"I'm up; I'm up." I sat up and rubbed the so-loved sleep from my eyes.

"Let's go?" I looked at her. "What?"

"Aren't you going to change? You wouldn't want to ruin the dress."

"Fine." She closed her eyes for a second and then opened her eyes in black skinny jeans, a white tee shirt and a leather jacket.

"Nice jacket."

"Shut up."

"What? I was just saying I like your jacket."

"Only because it's the same as yours."

"It is? Oh, yeah. It is. Copy-cat." I laughed. We left the hotel and just explored the city. A couple hours later, we came across a Captain America's. Why it was in Ireland, I have no idea, but the food was good. After we were done, I tipped the waiter and exited downstairs. When we reached the room, I hung my jacket in the closet and plopped on the bed.

"Ahh, this bed feels so good." Angela plopped down next to me.

"Indeed, it is comfy."

"Do you remember when they took you from me?" She sniffed and started fiddling with her hair.

"All too well," She whispered. "But we're together now, and that's all that matters." She kissed me.

"Yeah," I wrapped my arm around her. "What I want to know is, when they made you a goddess, were you so tired afterwards?"

"Yeah, I was tired. That's perfectly normal."

"Okay then, I'm taking a nap." I rolled over on the bed and closed my eyes.

In my dream, Angela and I were walking around Ireland, when we ran into Clyde and talked to him for a while. Then he tensed up and we ran off. Minutes later we were on the top of the mountain next to a huge tree. Then the tree moved and grew arms. It dusted off the branches and the bark to reveal a more powerful being than myself. It was Astraeus, titan of stars and planetary motion. He had a giant sword in his hands. I myself had my black sword and a shield. Astraeus brought his sword down on mine and I awoke. I sat up in the bed, it was raining again. Well, its Ireland, it always rains here. I was breathing heavily. I threw back the covers and walked over to the window. I closed my eyes, thinking about half of myself in the Underworld. When I opened my eyes, I could see in two places. I moved the me in the Underworld to my father's palace. I needed to speak with him, but before I could get to him, I felt a sturdy hand on my shoulder. My two bodies returned to one and I turned around.

"Are you okay, Alex?"

"Don't worry about me, Angela. I'll be fine. Just dreams; they'll pass in time."

"Do you want to tell me about them?"

"Do you want to know?"

"Yes, I want to know, Alexandrius! Spit it out!"

"It was you, me, and Clyde vs. Astraeus."

"Astraeus? The titan Astraeus?"

"Yes. We were on a mountain. I have reason to believe it will happen tomorrow. Now, get some sleep, my dear." I cupped her cheek in my hand.

"Okay," she said. She sounded hesitant, but left the subject alone. In a few minutes she was asleep. Now if only I could get to sleep.
