Chapter thirty three
"You sure you're up for this?" Sam asked Aivlis again. He had just parked the car in front of the house. He was nervous and he could hear it in his own voice.
"I'm sure. I'm not going to change my mind," she said with a sigh. "I've take a nap before dinner. And we're just going to meet your half-sister and her mother. What is there to worry about?" Yes, Aivlis was worried, that Siri wouldn't like her. For some reason her opinion mattered more than those of the others. Perhaps because she understood Sam to be quite close with his half-sister. "Let's just go in. The sooner we get this over with the sooner we can both stop worrying."
Sam quickly kissed her cheek and stepped out to open the door for her. "After you," he said.
"Thank you," she said with a blush as she got out. It still seemed like a dream to her, all that was happening. 'If it's overwhelming, just give yourself over to the feelings. What will happen, will happen anyway,' she muttered to herself.
She knew Sam could hear part of what she was muttering, because he shot her a questioning look. But she just shook his head and together they walked to the door. And after a deep breath they rung the doorbell.
"Ah, Sam, there you are," Siri said as she opened the door, holding her son.
"Auntie!" Collignon said immediately when he saw Aivlis. It was obvious who his favorite was.
"Hello, Siri," Sam said. "May I introduce you to my girlfriend Aivlis. Or Auntie as Collignon just called her."
"It's nice to meet you," Aivlis said, still blushing.
"It's nice to meet you, too. I'm just glad Sam has finally found someone that holds his interest enough to introduce her to the rest of the family," Siri said.
Sam grinned. "Well, in my mom's it was more accidental, in dad's case it was more unavoidable. You know what the press is wrote about that. So let us get inside and discuss that topic further. After all that is why we are here."
The four of them walked inside. It was not a time to discuss these things in public. Some people might overhear them.
Once inside they went to the sitting room and saw Syrane sitting there. "Nice to see you two, again," she said as Aivlis and Sam went to sit down. "So to what do we owe this pleasure?"
"There are a few reasons," Samoth said. "First of all was to introduce you to Aivlis, Siri. As you've seen Col has taken a shine to her. And you should know who he means with Auntie…"
"I'm thinking that is not all you've got to say. After all you are willing to pay for my time. And I know how much you dislike that," Siri said. She was obviously not one to be trifled with. She wanted to know why she was here, even though she liked spending time with her mother and son. Aivlis thought that was pretty reasonable.
Aivlis just nodded though. "First things first, I suppose. How much do you know about Sam and me?" When Sam looked at her questioningly she explained it to him. "Sam, it seems best to start at the beginning, before explaining everything else. And to do that properly, we need to know how much she figured out from what is written about us."
Siri grinned. And one could see that she liked that she wasn't the only one that talked to him like that. "I know you two have been a couple almost since you met. And that you went on several dates. Even one with Collignon there for protection." She looked at her mother if she knew anything more.
"And I know that Henry suddenly got interested in getting to know Collignon," Syrane added. "There has to be a reason for that. I've been wondering ever since he called me about that what's made him see sense there."
Samoth nodded to all they said. "You seem to know the most important things the press knows. And it seems we've been successful in keeping some things out of the press. Which is also why I'm telling you two before Drahcir. Drahcir sometimes doesn't know how to keep his mouth shut and that's something we want to avoid."
He then took a deep breath before continuing. "The press knows a lot. But what they don't know is that Aivlis is pregnant with my child. That is what prompted dad to ask questions about Collignon."
"He didn't realize he was already a grandfather," Aivlis added. "Something about him thinking he was too young to be one. So we've told him to stop neglecting his daughter and grandson."
Siri and Syrane were sitting on the couch with their mouths open. Like they had expected everything but this. Like they expected that Samoth, Henry's 'most perfect child', could do nothing wrong like getting a girl pregnant.
Collignon who had been playing on the floor felt the change in atmosphere in the room, looked at his mother and grandmother and said: "Mommy and granma, hungry. " With that he ran off and he came back with box of cookies.
Aivlis had to suppress a laugh at the little boy. "Col, can you come sit next to auntie?"
The boy nodded and climbed on the sofa next to Aivlis.
"How would you like it if you had a little cousin to play with soon?" She asked him.
He seemed to think about that a bit Then he answered. "I only want boy cousins, girls have cooties."
"Right," she said seriously. "I can't promise that, but we shall see what we can do."
