Silently her breathing slows
Her heartbeat ceased to quicken.
As her eyes start to close,
Quietly I listen.

I think of the good and bad
That had come her way.
She looks neither glad nor sad.
Just in no mood to stay.

I bring my face close.
In silence, she looks back.
I cannot in my mind compose
A way I will get back on track.

I can't think of how to go without.
I look at her solemn face.
We had been together throughout,
And she had brightened my days.

Then came a day it beat no more.
The time on earth had passed her.
Her face no longer looked gaunt and poor.
She had at last gone home to her master.
