You could always tell when a man is told what to do when their chest stiffens and their nose is always up in the air. All of them stand there as if they were identical brothers or clones to the strong men society. Only if a women could be so lucky to live here. Feeling the pain every man has to go through when they have to walk up that hill or put on an army suite just to protect themselves from getting shot or get oil to save and provide for their country. If any girl would do that. That girl would be me. But even for my father, I would have to hold myself back.

For a strong minded individual like me, things were very difficult when I was growing up. I always thought differently from the average girl and since that happened, my father would always make me think otherwise.

"You are not weird Alice, you are my special little girl," he would always say as he put on my ballerina outfit and put my hair in a pony tail.

I would always believe him but even for me I knew that something was wrong with me and that I had to fix it now. I always felt something was out of place and come to find out, I wasn't the only one that saw me that way. One day my Aunt Berna came over to our house for this weekend to babysit me. She would always put me in little girly activities and dress me up as if I was like today's 50's stars.

"I don't see why dressing me up is going to make things any better," I say.

My Aunt Berna looked at me in a sarcastic smile.

"Trust me as soon as Melvin see's you like this, he would be begging to take you out."

I roll my eyes. Just the thought of wasting my time on this boy's attention made me sick to my stomach. All they want to do is play with their video games and pick their nose and me as a person was not taking that. I was too mature to waste my time with these idiots that don't even want to look my way or treat me like a young lady.

"Don't you feel that we as girls spend too much time on what other people think? All we care about is how we look good and what shoes to put on. If a guy doesn't even care, then we cry in the corner or fight the girl that he is staring at. I mean come on, should we focus on war at peace or how President Eisenhower is charging more we can afford."

As soon as I was done talking, Aunt Berna looked at me as if I had three heads. She was so surprised that those words came out of my mouth and even from a six year that doesn't even have her braises yet. She got up as if the world was going to end and ran to my father to talk to him about my weirdness. It all started with that. It showed me that I had the most intelligent than an average kid and made me think of the world overall.

In sixth period I and my friends go on our way home to get our homework down just so we can hangout later.

"So are you excited about this week's spring fling?" says my friend Elizabeth as she elbows me in excitement.

"Uhhh, I don't know, I mean, I don't have anything to wear, one and two I don't even see the point of going."

Elizabeth grabs my arm pleads to death as if her life depends on it.

"Please, Please Go, it wouldn't be fun if you didn't….."

As soon as Elizabeth finished her sentence, a man with a navy uniform form on was standing right near the street. He looked as if he was the officer of the world's protection and will do anything for the country he lived. He made me think about what I would do in that uniform and how I would save the world. I try to finish my thoughts until Elizabeth snapped me out my daze.

"Hello, Earth to Alice. Can you hear me?" she says as she looks at me.

I jumped out of my dream.

"Yeah, what did you say?"

"I said that it wouldn't be fun if you didn't come."

"I don't know Liz, I'll think about it."

As soon as we reached to my house, I saw my dad's car drive in early. He usually comes late but since he is early we could finally talk about what I want to do after high school. I walked inside the house and saw my father fall into the floor. Shaking and crying and having his hand over his face.

"Dad what's wrong?" I said in sadness.

He looks at me in a serious face and looks at the jacket.

"They asked me to go back to Germany and fight the cold war. But I am afraid that I can't do that."

I walk to him closer in almost was about to cry.

"No dad! You can't. If you do, you'll get killed." I tried to hide my true emotions but it was too hard.

"I know it is the least thing you want me to do sweetie but in all honesty, I have no choose."

I tried anything to talk him out of it, but there was nothing I could do to prevent him.

"Dad, you are sick, you can't put yourself through this."

He looked at me in the most serious face out of all serious faces. He meant it this time and did not want me a part of it.

"Alice, I have to go and that's final." He turned around as I stayed there. It was no way I was letting him die. So I went to his room, took out his navy gear and got his name signed before he knew. As soon as you know it, America was looking at a new navy brad.
