Chapter 1.

I woke up to sunlight streaming across my face and the smell of breakfast wafting into my room. I closed my eyes and tried to fall back asleep but it didn't work. With some reluctance I checked my phone for the time, and for any information, as if it were the daily newspaper. A few facebook notifications, lots of emails and a few text messages from my friends.

Sighing I got out of bed and threw on the blue dressing gown that my grandma had bought me for my fifteenth birthday. I opened my bedroom and door and made my way downstairs.

"Bella is that you?" My mother's voice called from the kitchen.

"Yes Mom!" I called back.

"Don't even think about going into the sitting room to watch t.v, come out here and get your breakfast!" She ordered.

Now I have to say, as far as mother's go mine is pretty cool. My friend's put it down to her being a teen mom but I think it was just her nature. She had a sweet face, curly brown hair and kind blue eyes. Her nature was so bubbly. I think it was because her job wasn't serious, she was an authour... She wasn't famous worldwide but in Ireland she was pretty famous.

"What's for breakfast?" I asked her as I took my seat at the table.

"Hmm well your dad couldn't decide wether you'd prefer chocolate chip pancakes or a full fry up for your birthday, so I did both." She grinned at me as she set down a big plate full of food infront of me.

"Mom! Your the best!" I squealed. She knew just what to do to make me feel good. Especially on my birthday.

"Happy sweet sixteenth baby." She grinned sipping on her coffee.

"Where's daddy?" I asked her. A sixteen year old girl calling her father 'Daddy' might seem a bit weird but I was a huge daddy's girl.

"He might be upstairs failing terribly at wrapping your birthday present." She laughed and took another sip of her coffee.

Her and my dad were sixteen years married and still madly in love. Sometimes it grossed me out but mostly their marriage was a rock in my life. Something stable and solid that I could always depend on.

"Good morning my beautiful daughter Bella and my beautiful wife Violet." My dad sang entering the kitchen. He kissed my cheek and dropped a huge box on the table in front of me poorly wrapped and went over and kissed Mom on the lips.

"Your wrapping is terrible," Mom laughed at him as he went over to the coffee maker.

One thing I absolutely loved about my parents was, they were never overly serious. My house was mostly filled with laughter and a general goood at atmosphere rather in some of my friend's houses there are daily screaming matches.

"Aren't you gonna open your gift?" Dad asked me taking the seat next to Mom.

I pulled the paper apart quickly and easily. It was a shoe box. I had developed my mother's trait of not really being fashion obsessed so seeing a shoe box kind of broke my heart.

"Oh cheer up sweetheart." Mom grinned at me. "It's not shoes... Although I'm not really sure what Angel or Rachel has gotten you, but I wouldn't rule shoes out."

My aunts Angel and Rachel. Angel was my dad's twin sister who usually always bought me clothes and shoes. Rachel was my Mom's best friend and married to my dad's brother Jamie, and was almost the same as Angel.

"Don't worry, I've talked to her and she promised she'd calm down with all the clothes and stuff." My dad assured me.

I looked sceptical but I didn't respond as I took the lid off the shoe box. Inside was a bus ticket, dimond earrings and a dimond bracelet.

"Oh wow! Thanks!" I gasped. I wasn't sure what the bus ticket was for but I loved the earrings and bracelet.

"That's only from your dad." My Mom smiled and reached down beside her chair and picked up another big box.

"Mom, I told you both not to go to any trouble... Simple gifts and a simple celebration." I shook my head.

"Oh just open it you big complainer." My mom laughed again and rested her head against my dad's shoulder.

I tore of the paper from the box. Inside was a mac. I nearly died. I had been annoying my mom for months about getting me one.

"Oh mom this is too much! I can't except it!" I squealed and threw my arms around her.

"Of course you can sweetheart." She patted my hand.

"I don't know where you get the reluctance the accept gifts, your mom is very pushy about getting gifts... For her eighteenth I tried to suprise her with a special day out and all she did the entire time was pester me about where we were going and what I'd bought her." He rolled his eyes and squeezed my mom's shoulder.

"You never actually did tell me the story of how you guys met." I looked at them slyly as I took a bite of my pancakes.

Mom looked at dad worriedly but he waved it off and grinned at me. "Well we met roughly sixteen years ago, your mom was seventeen and I was twenty-one."

"You were only a year older then me?" I asked curiously.

"Well yes but I was only a few months away from being eighteenth." She added I could hear a warning in her voice. One thing with my mom was do as I say and not as I do kinda thing.

"We were living up in Wexford at the time and your mom had another boyfriend at the time, which was heartbreaking for me." He was smiling but his eyes were far away and distant.

"You did?" I looked at her curiously. Why did they both look so sad at the mention of this.

"But after I met your dad one night, we had a falling out. He was jealous of your dad... At first I was a bit sad but then Rachel and Jamie convinced me to go to a new years eve party... And I was a bit down at the party too because it was mostly couples... But at the end of the night a man in a green mask asked me to dance, and I said yes... We counted down to midnight and when he pulled off his mask, it was your dad." Mom leaned in and kissed him on the cheek.

"And then happily ever after?" I asked.

They shared another weird look and I felt like they were leaving out something from the story.

"What?" I asked looking between them.

"Nothing, we had you got married and moved to Waterford. Don't you wanna know why we got you a bus ticket?" Dad asked me trying to distact me.

"Why'd you buy me a bus ticket?" I asked them but I wasn't gonna let the story go. I knew there was something they weren't telling me and I was determined to find out what it was.

"We got you a bus ticket to see your grandma and grandpa in Wexford." Dad grinned at me.

"Ohmigod really? They usually drive down." I was both excited and confused at the same time.

"I know but Grandpa Andrew can't because he has to go up to Dublin and Grandma is staying at home because your Aunt Annie is staying with her while she's home." Mom explained to me.

"Why don't we all drive up?" I asked them. I know this sounded childish but the thought of going off without my parents was kind of scary.

"Your mom can't she has to take care of the babies and I'm going to be working alot this week." Dad explained.

Of course mom couldn't go what was I thinking... Last year I'd finally gotten my wish for a baby sister... well actually I'd been give a brother and sister twins. Mom didn't want to travel far in the car with Ryan and Arriana until they were older, apparently it was bad for them and they could get some kind of weird syndrome.

"Why don't you go up and pack and we'll leave for the bus station in a little while." Mom smiled and me cleared all the plates and went over to the sink.

I sighed pushing out of my chair and padded out into the hall and up the stairs.

"What're we going to do John?" I sighed when I heard Bella's padded feeting hitting the landan upstairs.

"What do you mean what are we going to do?" He asked confused.

"About the past. About me and Jack?" I pressed. Bella was at that age where she was wanting more answers. She had to be the only sixteen year old girl in the world that wasn't disturbed by her parent's romance.

"What about it? We told her... We met, fell in love end of story." He waved it off. John had been going to anger managment for the last sixteen years, which had made him calm and relaxed.

"She knows that's not the whole story." I argued. His relaxed attitude was annoying in this serious situation.

"Vi, calm down... Jack hasn't been in touch since Bells was born... Why would he now? He's probably married and has kids." John shrugged and sipped his coffee.

"John! Your mam told us he's called her a few times! He only lives up in Dublin it's not like he is in another country!" I stressed and sank down in my chair.

"Yes Violet, but he changed his last name to avoid giving us money to look after her and he hasn't ask my mom once about Bella!" John snapped. "I'm her dad end of discussion."

We looked at each other for a moment. I know my bringing Jack up was hurting John, but we couldn't ignore it much longer. Bella knew we were hiding something from her.

"I'm sorry honey." I sighed and wrapped my arms around him.

"It's okay, just you know it upsets me." He sighed and I swear I saw tears in his eyes.

"Look a dad is not the one who makes the child, a dad is the one who raises the child." I whispered in his ear.

"I know... Look why don't you go get dressed while I clear up down here and we take a walk through town... Bella can watch the twins for a little while." He said to me.

"Sounds wonderful." I leaned down to kiss him before I head off towards the door.

When I heard my mom coming I quickly hopped off the top step and ran into my room.

I couldn't believe it. How could John not be my dad? How could they be keeping this from me? Who was this Jack guy? Was he mom's old boyfriend? Why was he contacting grandma Josie?

"Bella can I come in?" My mom called as she knocked on my door.

"Sure." I tried to compose myself as she entered the room.

"Me and your dad are just going to take a walk through town for a little while. Would you mind watching the twins for us?" She asked me. She still had a smile on her face but it seemed to be a bit forced and strained.

"No problem." I smiled back but like hers it was forced. I wasn't exactly sure why I didn't just confront her.

"Good girl. They are sleeping but you know what to do if they wake up." She winked at me and I heard the heels she'd put on clicking as she went downstairs.

I started to form a plan in my head. My mom said that my real dad lived in Dublin... I could get mom to drop me off at the bus stop and just get a different ticket... I was determinded to find him... Even if he didn't want me around I still had to know who he was... I was determinded to find my dad.
