Prologue

150 years ago, The Fall began. It began with little things, ideas that seem good at the time. Many people say that The Fall stared with the oil. The government at the time wanted to cease the use of foreign oils. This, of course seemed like a brilliant idea at the time. However, the citizens kept on using oil. The thirst for oil grew and grew. The federal government needed to satisfy this. But without foreign oil, that left little options. It was only supposed to be temporary really, so the government began lifting all regulations on what was then called "Domestic drilling." This satisfied the thirst for a while, but other problems began to arise.

People became angry about taxes and there were anger ignited, there were talks of protests. In order to stop these protests and preserve the nation, the federal government cut most federal taxes. This made the tax payers happy for a while, however, along with cutting the taxes so severely, the government needed to cut other programs (after all, money must come from somewhere.) The government cut all federal money to public schools, roads, and welfare. The citizen kept saying the money would come from somewhere. The citizen kept saying in time, all things would balance out and fix themselves.

Sadly thought, after several years, people began to notice that their water was no longer clean. They realized their roads and public school were crumbling, but there was no one around to make repairs, and there was no money to make repairs with. Worst yet, the "Domestic drilling" began to dry up.

Naturally, the people did what they do best – they took to the streets in protest. The protests turned violent within weeks. People began revolting. The government was very worried by this. The government could not understand what had gone wrong, all he did was give the people all they asked for. The panicked. In desperation to stop the protests, the government started pouring money into the police precincts" The government reasoned that the larger the city, the more money was needed. . The government began collecting what they called the "Gifted, perfect human weapons. The police did just as the government wished and quelled all protest. It was a bloody time, neighbors turned against each other, as did brothers, as did friends.

The police realized that had all the money and weapons that they wanted. They desired something more. You see, when the police put out the protests they got a taste of the most addictive substance on Earth; power. The police came to understand that those of the government were no different than the people that they had so efficiently over took. The police turned on the government. After years of clash, the police successfully over threw the government. The police precincts all over the country gained power and reformed. Gradually, the police adopted a more militaristic model. They created stricter laws as to avoid another Fall. The kept collecting the Gifted. Anyone that disagreed with them was collected as well.

Eventually, new classes called Cuts emerged. Most of the people were laborers and belonged to The Lower Cut. Supervisors, managers, and artisans made up the Mid Cut. Only the police, company owners and their families were of the Upper Cut.

Some say that The Fall started with oil, others say The Fall started with greed.
