A/N: A new story for the spur of the moment. Of boy and of girls, of careless flirting and of passionate love. Of times never forgotten and of times you wish you could. Most of all for the thing in all of us that can't quite let go and the small voice of sensibility that keeps us safe.

Breaking Up with Tyler Greene

Saturday, August 04, 2007

"Hey, girl, how've you been?"

She hesitates, but she says it. "You just called yesterday."

He laughs, ignoring her. "What, a boy can't call a girl every once in a while?"

She doesn't let go. "You told me not to call so often."

He licks his lips. "But I told you to call when you wanted."

"You're the one who complained about it being too often."

He gives her a small laugh. "Nah, you know I wasn't serious."

She doesn't say anything.

"Well if you don't want to talk to me you could've just said so."

"It's not that, I just –"

He shakes his head. "Nah, it's okay. I understand."

She sighs and leans back in her chair. "Don't do this again."

Suddenly he's defensive. "What the fuck am I doing?"

"No, whatever. I'm busy anyway."

She sighs. He's already gone.

"Hello?" She can barely open her eyes.

"Hey, it's 1:11. Make a wish!"

"What time is it?" She rolls over to look at her clock. "Fuck, it's late."

"Oh, is that all you have to say to me?"

"No, it's just that I was asleep and you –"

"Yeah, okay. Whatever."

"I just – Hey, wait!"

"Hi, it's me. I was just calling to apologize for not being friendly on the phone earlier this morning…I had a rough day and I went to bed early. I didn't mean to be so rude. Call me back."

"Hey, it's me again…it's 11:11. Make a wish!"

"Are you actually busy? It's Sunday morning…what are you doing? I mean, not that I care…it's just that I'd really appreciate it if you'd at least tell me when you're ignoring me on purpose. So I know not to call or something. I just…nevermind. Call me."

"Listen, I get it if you're mad. I already apologized, okay? Now you're just making me mad."

"Hello?" She glances at her clock and groans, but doesn't complain this time.

"Hey, baby, how you doin'?"

She grimaces. "Are you drunk?"

"That's no way to greet yo' man."

It hits her hard. It always does. "We…we broke up, remember?"
