It was the tiniest chink-chink that told him she was in the room; he wouldn't have heard it if he hadn't been specifically listening for it. A smile crept across his face when he felt the mattress dip behind him, and then a porcelain hand with slender fingers slid over his ribs to his chest, leaving goosebumps in their wake. He rolled toward her as she slipped under the covers to curl up against him. Her skin was cool against his bare chest, sending a pleasurable shiver down his spine.

"I heard you," said Kiyoshi as he looked into the red eyes of Shane, who raised blonde eyebrows to say:

"Oh, you did?"

"I knew getting you that anklet was a good investment." His lips curved into one of his charming smirks.

Shane narrowed her eyes. "The little 'chink-chink'? Even I can barely hear that!"

Kiyoshi laughed. He had known telling a master thief that he could hear her coming would aggravate her, but he couldn't resist. However, instead of antagonizing her more he said, "It's easy to hear something you want to hear."

Shane continued to watch him carefully for a few moments while she judged the intention in his voice. Once she was satisfied he wasn't being sarcastic she replied with a tease: "My, Kiyoshi...What a philosophical thing to say."

Kiyoshi smiled at her, a true smile he reserved for her. Normally he was ironic and satirical, but not when he was alone with her. He ran his fingers through her long hair affectionately.

"How was the hunt?" he inquired after a few moments silence.

Shane wobbled her hand back and forth to indicate "so-so."
