Chapter 2

I can feel my world slowly begin to fade as my mother switches the music channel back to where it was and begins to hum along with whatever song is playing at the moment. the gentle, soothing sounds wills my mind further into sleep and I sigh as the familiar blackness surrounds me.

I watched you sleep with a gentle face

No matter the time or place

It seemed like to you a constant race

And emotions that you never chase.

Why would you leave me?

Was I that empty?

Ooo-h. Ooo-h.

What a lovely song. I wonder who is singing it.

Autumn falls in gentle waves

With a girl who behaves

In a wondrous dream.

A fantasy.

And her is Jaquline.

And she's mine.

And it's a song about me? How sweet.

With that thought, I push out of my dream world and into reality.

"Ugh." I grunt as a blinding light shoots pain into my skull and I blink to get used to it.

She has a secret you didn't know

And a spirit that loves to go

And a smile that makes you show

The beauty in every single soul

Is that why you had to leave?

Because I wouldn't believe?

"You're finally up." My mother states and I glower at her.

"Change the song please." I say and she smirks. She turns the dial and the music becomes louder.

"Stevie's new song." She replies over the music and I groan. Come on! I wasn't completely rude earlier, was I?

Autumn falls in a sleepy haze

With a child and a startling gaze

And it's not as it seems

A reality.

And her name is Jaquline

And she's mine.

I give my mother a tortured look and she smiles at me.

Why did you have to go?

Was it something I didn't know?

Why did you have to leave?

Was it because of me?

Yeaa-h. Ooo-h.

I continue to watch my mother as tears brim the edges of my eyes. Doesn't she realize the amount of pain I'm in listening to this?

I give my mother a frantic look. She doesn't seem to notice.

And she's mine.

Autumn falls.

Autumn falls.

Autumn...falls.

Tears fall from my eyes and I wipe at them hastily, not wanting my mother to see me crying over a stupid song. She looks over at me and smiles again. I giver her a nasty glare worthy of that of my father. Whoever he may be.

She looks out at the road again, her face pale, and I smirk. Jack: 1. Mother: 0.
