The rising sun's light chases the darkness down the mountainside, flashes through the forest in the valley, glides over the still surface of the water towards the island in the center of the lake where the remains of a city lay.

Something bursts out of the forest, ripping leaves from the trees. It splits the surface of the water as it weaves across the lake. Halfway to the ruins on the island in the center of the lake, it spirals towards the sky, coming to a complete stop two meters above the water. Chime. The leaves swirl above the surface as it calms.

A palm-sized leaf glides towards the water and gently lands on the surface, creating small ripples. Another wave of ripples distorts the surface of the water as a tiny animal that is six cm tall, lands on the leaf. Chime.

This tiny animal appears to be a tiny female, human child with wings. Her light gray-blue hair is separated into two braids that go behind her rounded ears and down to her lower back. Each section of the braids has one piece of string that has tiny beads and feathers on it. At the end of each braid, the three strings continue to be braided for another two mm with a closed bell tied to the end.

She puts her arms above her head while she yawns, causing the sleeves of the sky blue robe to fall to her shoulders. She slightly leans back as she stretches her legs, revealing her small bare feet. She reaches for her toes and spreads out her wings. The shape of her wings resembles tear drops. The silver edges sparkle and a stormy blue ring surrounds the white center. Each of her wings stretch twelve cm away from her body. The shape of her wings and the slightly loose center, allows her wings to act as a sail. She yawns and closes her eyes, hiding the light gray-blue irises. A cloud floats across her robe.

The wind picks up again as she lazily stretches her arms forward. The wind pushes against her outstretched wings, causing the leaf the skip across the water. Chime, chime, chime, chime. The leaf crashes into the shore, launching the fairy into the air.

"Ahhhhaha! Nohhh!" As she goes flying, she folds her wings across her back. Then she pushes her hands forward and up, forming a semicircle. The wind speeds up and sweeps toward the sky, pushing her right side up.

"Yes! Now to unf-uhh" Smack.

"Ahhh!" Thump.

A human child lies on the ground with the fairy fused to her face. Shallow cuts can be seen through her shredded cloths and blood covers her body.

Rin sits up causing the fairy to fall off her face and into her lap. The fairy sits up.

"Owie! (Sniffles) What did I crash into?" She looks up at Rin. "Ah. Sorry. I didn't mean to scare you." Rin gulps.

"I…I'm Ok. Y… you didn't s…s…scare me." The fairy looks at Rin's torn up cloths and the scratches.

She quickly looks back up at Rin. "My name is Mink, and I'm a wind fairy! So I keep scary things away!" She puts her hands on her hips and smiles at Rin. Tears fill Rin's eyes while she grabs the poor wind fairy and crushes her in a bear hug.

"Ahhh! Ur cushin' meee!" Rin pulls Mink away and cups the wind fairy in her hands.

"Ah. Sorry." Rin smiles. Mink takes several deep breaths.

"It's Ok. …"

"Umm… what do we do now?"

"Uh… well…we should probably take you to a nearby human town."

"There aren't any."

"They were all destroyed during the war. Tonen and Bella Mare are the last human cities."

"Oh… well which one is closer."

"Tonen. I don't know how to get there though"

"It's Ok. We'll find it."

Two hours later.

"My feet hurt. How far do we have to walk?"

"My wings hurt. Where are we?" Rin freezes, her left leg hanging in midair. Rustling.

"What did you say?"

"Where are we…? (The color drains from Mink's face) We're lost." Rin places her left foot on the ground and stands there, with Mink sitting on her head.

"Gahhhhh!" They stiffen. Rin slowly turns around, the entrance to a cave towers before her.

"Gahhhhh!" Rin whimpers as tears stream down her face. A high-pitched scream resonates through the forest. In the cave, a violet flame springs to life for a few second before it completely vanishes. From the darkness of the cave emerges…an old man.

"It's Ok! I'll get you out of this cave!" He yells before tripping over a rock.

"…" (Rin)

"…" (Mink)

"We're not in a cave." They both reply. The old man looks up at Rin.

"What! That's impossible! How can you not be in this cave when I'm still looking for the exit? Geez, don't young people have respect for the elderly anymore!" Rin's eye twitches.

"Can't you see that you're out of the cave?" she yells.

"No. I can't, because I'm blind." Rin stares at the old man in shock.

"Oh. I'm so sorry. I didn't know." The old man springs to his feet.

"Oh don't worry about it! Thank you lil miss for helping me get out of that cave... by the way, how far away from the entrance are we?"

"Pretty far." Mink replies.

"…I see. So I was close to the entrance the whole time?"

"Yep." Rin replies.

"Um… Mister, how old are you?" Rin asks. The old man freezes.

"Oh look, a pretty bird. Hi lil birdie." He replies while pointing to an empty branch.

"There's nothing there."

"(Nervous laughter) Kids these days are so cute. Do you have any water? I haven't had anything to drink for five days."

"Five. Days. You're kidding right."

"Nope. I went five long days with absolutely no water. There wasn't even water in the air." Rin and Mink stare at him in shock.

"Humans can only last three days without water."

"Fairies can only last one day without water."

"(To Mink) Really that sucks (Mink nods). (To the old man) What are you?"

"If you're not a human or a fairy, then what are you?" Mink asks. Rin seems to realize something.

"Oh my gosh! You're a demon!" She screams.

"I'm not a demon!" He yells.

"Then what are you?"

"I'm a fire drag-oh crap."

"I see, so you're a dragon. …(with tears streaming from her eyes) I don't have any treasure. Please don't eat me."

"Those are stereotypes!" The old man's face is slightly tinted red.

"(sigh) We don't collect treasure-or at least I don't since I'm blind-and we don't eat people-except maybe hydras."

"Oh so you're not going to roast me alive and eat me?"

"…What do they teach kids now-a-days?"

"Um… what about fairies?"

"Who was that?"

"I'm Mink. I'm a wind fairy."

"Huh? Oh. No, we don't eat fairies."

"Ok! Do you know where Tonen is?"

"Wait! Why are you asking him?!" Rin asks.

"Because. He's an old dragon, so he should know this stuff." Mink replies.

"I was born blind you know." he chimed in sarcastically.

"Oh I get it! Since he's an old dragon, he has been around for a long time, so he knows where to go."

"I know you can hear me."

"We're so young and small, so we would get eaten by something (pause)if we were by ourselves (pause)without an adult to protect us."

"Fine! I'll take you to Tonen."

"Yay!" Mink and Rin cheer in unison.

"Hey Mr. Dragon?" Rin says as she begins to walk.

"Please don't call me that."

"Oh. What should I call you?"

"OK! I'm Rin."

"What were you going to ask me Rin?"

"I forgot."

"I see."
