The Jewel and the Heart

The jewel is a half,
the other absent.
One side a polished green
the other rough and jagged.
And beneath the smooth surface
as if a trick of the eyes
are countless strands of golden light.

My heart is a half,
the other absent.
One side within my chest,
and the other within yours.
And in the innermost part of its fathomless depths,
with every strained heartbeat
My heart calls out for yours.
