The Fork in the Road

On a winter evening, while walking in the forest snow, a man came across a fork in the road.

. He pondered for a moment, looked East and West,

"Which way shall I go?" asked he.

Then a ghostly figured appeared from the East way. "Come down my path and see awaits you, traveler" he whispered.

Although the ghost sounded very convincing, the man could not help but hesitate.

He decided the ghost was not worthy of his trust,

He walked towards the West, another apparition stood in his path.

"Young traveler, for you mustn't listen to my brother,

The deceitful being will indeed trick you. Come this way." He hissed.

Again the man was plagued with temptation, for this ghost too, sounded convincing.

He stood and looked both ways, and shook his head.

"For I am all alone,

No one knows where I am,

How foolish of me to stand here!"

With that, he silently walked away.

Months later, the man walked into an alleyway, and came to a dead end.

He looked to his left and right and saw two iron doors.

He grabbed the right door's knob, and heard a familiar hiss voice.

Turning around, he saw the apparition of the West.

Leaning against the door the spirit attempted to change the man's mind.

"Come through my door. For it is the better way to go."

How could this ghost be so ignorant?

Had he not learned that his vagueness proves no persuasion?

Yet the gullible man turned to the ghost's direction.

"No you fool! You mustn't fall for my brother's trap!" said a hushed whisper

"Come through this door" ghost of the East said

"For it is the wise decision."

Again the man was nonresistant,

Yet again his thoughts got the better of him.

"For I am all alone,

No one knows where I am,

How foolish of me to stand here"

With that, he silently walked away.

Years later, the man avoided two different choices.

Temptation never followed. Never left to ponder.

Soon, the traveler met a young lady by the name Elizabeth.

It was love at first sight; they got married in two months time.

On a winter evening, while on a romantic walk in the forest snow, the man and Elizabeth came across a fork in the road.

They pondered for a moment, looked East and West,

"Which way shall we go?" asked he to his wife.

Then a ghostly figured appeared from the East way. "Come down my path and see awaits you travelers" he whispered.

Although the ghost sounded very convincing, the two could not help but hesitate.

They decided the ghost was not worthy of their trust,

They walked towards the West, another apparition stood in their path.

"Young travelers, for you mustn't listen to my brother,

The deceitful being will indeed trick you. Come this way." He hissed.

Again the man and his wife was plagued with temptation, for this ghost too, sounded convincing.

They stood and looked both ways, and he shook his head.

"For I am not alone,

No one knows where we are,

How foolish of the both of us to stand here"

With that, they silently walked away.

From that moment on,

The man realized he would never have to choose alone.

He always had someone beside him.

For all the temptation in this mysterious world we lay our feet upon.
