Whoa. My very first original oneshot. Hm. Well, not my first...long story about that one. But this is my first time posting here on . Hey, I hope this wasn't too bad. I feel really bad about opening an account here without posting anything...well, at least I got one now, huh? hehehe...

anyway, this story is loosely based on a real life situation in my high school...note the 'loosely' there. well, unless you can actually track me and just to happened to know what really happened, then any event similar to a real life situation is coincidental.

anyway, let's get on with it, shall we?

Conversations: The Evolution of a High School Relationship

"Hello, Jake"

"What're you doing here?"

"Good morning to you too, sunshine"

"You didn't answer the question, Pia"

"…whatever. I'm waiting for Lina over there. Mind if I sit there beside you?"

"…sure"

"So you do mind?"

"I never said such a thing"

"You answered 'sure' when I asked if you would be bothered if I sat beside you"

"No, you asked me if I minded"

"It's pretty much the same thing"

"No, the two words have a difference. You see-"

"Oh who cares what you think! My legs are tired"

"…"

"…what?"

"I never said anything"

"Can we stop arguing?"

"We're not arguing"

"We kinda are"

"No, you're arguing"

"…anyway, what are you doing here?"

"I'm waiting for Tony over there…"

"…who's still busy talking with Lina"

"Took the words out of my mouth"

"I'm surprised they haven't started making out yet"

"Tell me about it. Ever since those two have gotten together, it's as if nothing else exists"

"I know what you mean. It's extremely hard trying to talk to them lately"

"They've only been together for about, what, a week? Two?"

"One and a half"

"But they've been best friends for four years"

"I know. We've known them when they just started"

"And look where they are now"

"In a relationship…making out"

"…ew"

"Okay, what?"

"Huh?"
"Aren't girls supposed to, you know, like romance and love stories?"

"First, the only reason girls like those is because of how romance was always used in little girl fairy tales and fantasies. Second, most stories leave girls wishing they'd experience the same drama and fantasy of such stories"

"Then why don't you like them?"

"I'm not your average girl"

"Hmph, really?"
"What do you think, moron?"

"First, the fact that you know that means you have that sort of experience. Two, you were the one who started saying that those two looked good together and constantly teased them"

"So? I don't go out telling the whole world the guy I have a crush on, now do I?"

"…you have a crush?"

"Didn't we have this conversation before? Yes, I like someone romantically, just like every other girl"

"I thought you just said you weren't the average girl?"

"I'm not…but I'm still a girl"

"Back when we started high school, you said that you were too young for love"

"I was. That was four years ago. I think I'm more ready for it"

"Yeah sure, I totally believe that"

"You're one to talk. That girl you like, what's her name again?"

"I have no idea what you're talking about"

"Ummmm…Hope! That's right! you were the one who kept asking her out and wouldn't get the message when she said, multiple times over the course of three years, that she wasn't interested"

"Thanks for opening old wounds. I feel so much better now"

"…oh…sorry. I thought…I thought you were over her"

"I am…."

"Not"

"yes I am!"

"No, you're not"

"Am too!"

"Then why get offended?"

"…"

"Oh, come on! I know we started out as enemies, but I thought you said that you could tell me anything"

"It's a lot more complicated than that"

"Then elaborate"

"I can't just do that!"
"Fine. Be that way. I won't pry"

"What? You're offended?"
"I never made such a statement"

"You don't have to"

"What are you trying to get to?"

"You should ask yourself that"

"Bah! Girls!"

"Tsk, boys"

"…"

"…"

"Fine"

"Fine what?"

"I started liking someone else okay?"

"Ah"

"But after getting dumped, I wasn't sure whether I should try again"

"You never know 'til you try"

"But that isn't the only reason"

"What else?"

"You know that almost everyone knew about my crush, right?"

"Yeah. People would always tell me about it"

"Exactly! If I said I started liking someone else, then everyone'd think that I was lying"

"…you have a point there"

"So I didn't wanna tell her that I liked her, cause she'd think I was lying"

"Well, that's pretty much your own fault"

"What?!"

"Well, how can people believe you if you wont even believe yourself"

"Believe in myself about what?"

"That people would believe you"

"That doesn't even make sense"

"It wasn't suppose to"

"Will you quit speaking in riddles! I'm having a major crisis here"

"Fine, fine. And you think girls worry about their love lives"

"Ignoring that-"

"Carry on"

"-what do you think I should do?"

"Depends on what you want to happen"

"I don't understand"

"Look. I've liked a certain guy for almost three years now. We started out as enemies, became more civil, then friends, best friends then almost brother and sister. I've never had the guts to tell him that I liked him, and I still haven't. Why? Because I'm not sure I want a relationship. And even if I did, I don't think I could handle the rejection"

"What are you trying to say?"

"what I'm trying to say is that my actions, or lack of actions brought me to my situation today: watching the guy I like fall for someone else. Had I done something sooner, I might've had a chance. Every action leads to an equal and opposite reaction. So whatever you do, think about it's results"

"Since when did you become the love expert?"

"Since I realized I actually had a love life"

"So you're saying that if I want to start a relationship, I'd have to make the first move. If I don't, I should just keep quiet"

"Glad to be of service"

"Hm. Not bad. But there's one problem in your little advice"

"What's that?"

"Yourself"

"EH?!"

"You say that and you clearly want a relationship, but you haven't done anything yet"

"That's because I'm afraid of rejection"

"My turn to be the councilor"

"No, I really don't ne-"

"You can't live your life in fear. If you really like someone, you should follow your heart, not your head. Yes, rejection sucks, and you know that I know that, but its worth it. If he likes you back, then cool. If he doesn't, it'll hurt real bad, but at least you tried. Don't live your life with regrets, or else you'll end up using the present thinking about the what ifs of the past."

"Okay, since when did you become the love expert?"

"Since two minutes ago"

"haha, very funny…however, I never thought of it that way"

"And people say you're the smarter one"

"But it's still hard. I'm not sure if I should"

"Hey, join the club. I'm still not sure if I should too"

"Hm, couple of weird people we are huh? Exchanging love advice when we can't even follow them"

"Then how about a deal"

"Huh?"

"As soon as we end this conversation, the next chance we get to talk to the person we like, we tell them"

"I'm not so sure about that"

"Aw, come on, Pia!"

"Easier said that done, you know"

"exactly why there's a deal"

"but-"

"But nothing. Or else"

"Grr…"

"I'm waiting"

"Gosh, fine. Deal"

"I enjoy doing business with you"

"Oh shut up"

"…"

"…"

"So…"

"So…"

"I like-"

"-like you"

"…"

"…"

"AHHH!"

"AHHH!"

"Pia, What the heck was that?!"

"You tell me, Jake!"

"What do you mean you like me?"

"Exactly what those words mean!"

"Wait, rewind. So, you like, as in like like me?"

"Yes, you idiot. I kinda do"

"For three years"

"Took you long enough"

"…whoa"

"My turn. Did you mean that?"

"Mean what?"

"That you like like me?"

"Uh, yeah"

"Seriously?"

"Yes"

"Really, really?"

"Yes"

"as in-"

"Oh stop being redundant"

"Whoa…"

"…"

"So, where does that leave us?"

"What?"

"Well, we are kind of in a brother-sister relationship-"

"-until now"

"So what does that make us now?"

"Boyfriend girlfriend?"

"No, I don't think so. We haven't outright asked each other that yet"

"Yeah. Dating then?"

"No, we just admit that we mutually have feelings for each other"

"Oh…"

"Yeah…"

"So…wanna go get some food? Waiting for those two to finish is taking a lifetime"

"And ditch them? Of course!"

"Does this mean we're on our first date?"

"Hm, guess so"

"Cool. Yo! Lina! Tony! We're leaving"

"Later guys. Come on Jake"

"Hey, Lina?"

"Yeah Tony?"

"Did our plan just work?"

"Guess so…"

"Great! Took them long enough"

"Yeah..."

"Wanna follow them?"

"I brought my camera"

"Great! We can take their photos at random places and use it as blackmail"

"Perfect! I'll go get the green slime"

"What?"

"Can't have regular chatting photos for blackmail. We need good-old pranks for this"

"This is one date neither they nor us will ever forget huh?"

THE END

Well, that's that. I hope it wasn't too bad. I'm not that good of a writer, and I only did this because I promised a friend I would write a love story based on, er, something about our own experience so...well, you get the idea.

Also know that, the place that I live in and the school that I go to is very different from other places. This kind of thing may seem weird and impossible to happen for others, but it's actually quite normal for me. I intentionally didn't put any age so people can imagine what they liked, as long as the characters are high school.

Anyway, please feel free to review. Flames? They kind of put me down and make me feel a tad bit depressed, but I realize that a lot of people get angry that way, so, it's really up to you. I do appreciate the effort...

Thanks for reading ^_^
