Oops. Got too lost in life and I sort of prioritized my other story. Apologies. xx
Landon's mind was raising. She's in my house... He thought, swallowing hard. He could hear his heart pounding in his ears. He sat tensely at the dinner table, across from Charlotte. He was nervous, oh so nervous as he sat at the table with one of the most beautiful girls ever. He fiddled with his fork, playing with the food in his plate. He glanced up at her, trying not to be too obvious. Her eyes were focused on the plate before her. She ate slowly—gracefully. He averted his eyes as he caught a glimpse of her own eyes that glanced up. The room suddenly felt so hot to him. He knew he was going to start sweating nervously. He was embarrassed because he didn't really know how to talk to people in general, little a very attractive girl. Charlotte studied him. He was tensed up and looked very flustered. She noticed how he hadn't touched his food at all, and how much he was just fidgeting.
"What's the matter?" Her sweet voice rang in his ears. The voice on an angel... He thought to himself.
"N-nothing..." He said before he swallowed and shook his head, looking down at his plate and decided to begin eating. He began to shovel food into his mouth, trying to finish as quickly as possible. He needed to distract himself, but he didn't know how to. He was just so amazed and awed by her. She was the embodiment of perfection. He looked up, seeing she was still looking at him, with a hint of concern in her expression.
"Are you sure?" She asked, giving him an unconvinced, yet concerned look. His insides nearly melted. It seemed like she actually cared, and the look she gave him. He smiled and nodded at her, hoping he was the only one who could hear his heart beating rapidly.
"I don't believe it." She said, making a face, puffing her cheeks and pushing out her lower lip as she squinted her eyes. He flushed and stared at her, admiring her beautiful features.
"What are you making that face for?" Landon's mom said as she walked into the dining room, chuckling lightly, looking between the two. Charlotte giggled and smiled.
"Oh nothing..." She said and smiled, looking and Landon, who flushed and got back to eating.
"So, Charlotte.." Landon's mom began as she sat down and looked at her.
"Is there anything that I could do to help you in your situation somehow?" She gazed at her through soft eyes, her brow furrowed, sincerity etched in her face and tone. Charlotte looked down at her lap for a moment before shaking her head and shrugging a bit.
"No...but thank you... but I'm just really sorry to intrude tonight. I just didn't know where else to go." She said and smiled at Landon's mother.
"Well, you're welcome to stay for as long as you like." She smiled at the young girl who gazed at her and gave her a small nod along with a small smile.
"Thank you. Mrs. Clark." She said as she glanced at Landon. Smile spread across her face as she gestured towards her chin, while staring at him.
"You got a little... " He went red, wiping the piece of food off and quickly muttered a thanks. He cleared his throat and stood, picking up his plate.
"Thanks for dinner mom—I'm off to bed now. Goodnight." He quickly said as he sped to the kitchen, putting his plate in the sink and grabbing a water bottle from the fridge. He ran up the stairs, skipping a few to get to the top faster. He made his way to the room and shut his door. He plopped onto his little swivel chair and heaved a sigh. He relaxed a bit before opening his bottle, taking a swing of water. He set his bottle down on his desk and sat there for a bit, with his eyes closed. He was so nervous and edgy he couldn't contain his feelings. He jumped onto his bed, landing face down as buried himself within his blankets and tried resting his racing thoughts.
How long will she be here for?
He heard footsteps coming up the stairs. He froze, holding his breath and listening as he heard them come closer. There was a knock at the door and by God you could have swore that all the color drained from his face. How could she have such a giant impact on him, he wondered? He sat there frozen, unsure what to do, as he stared at the door.
Another knock.
Oh God, Oh God what do I do?
"...Landon..." He heard Charlotte's voice on the other side of the door. He mustered up the courage to reply. "Can I come in...?" She asked and there was a hint of nervousness in her voice.
"Oh, uh... Sorry - come in.." He sat up, straightening his shirt and ruffling his hair. She opened the door, smiling as she stepped through and made her way inside.
"Hey." She said, softly, taking a look around the room, admiring how neat it was.
"Hi." He said stiffly, as he sat a little tangled in the blankets.
"Wow, it's nice and cozy in here." She said as she stepped forward, inspecting the canvas stand. He laughed a little nervously.
"You paint?" She asked him, while taking a quick glance towards him.
"Yeah... From time to time."
"That's pretty cool..." Her voice trailed off as her eyes spotted the flower.
"That's a really pretty flower." She said, inspecting it.
"It reminded me of you." He said without thinking, and caught himself. But it was too late. She smiled coyly, biting her lip and turning away out of embarrassment, a tinge of pink on her was a bit emboldened by the way she had responded, but was still embarrassed himself.
"Oh please..." She muttered, still looking away from him, before taking a seat on his swivel chair. The awkwardness between them wasn't that awkward so he decided to ask her.
"So... Why are you here?" He stared at her, waiting for an answer. She brushed a strand of hair behind her ear, glancing at him.
"Well...things at home aren't really going well..." He recalled the first meeting with her mother and figured as much. He nodded and looked down.
"I'm... Really sorry..." He apologized as he just looked at the floor. She let out an empty laugh, smiling as she stared at him.
"It's really alright."
He looked up to stare at her, a worried expression coming across his face.
"No... No, it's not alright. Not in a million years would that be alright. Especially to someone as wonderful as you are."
Her smile faltered a little, but she smiled softly at him. He flushed deeply, and turned away.
"It's getting late.. You should get some rest..." He said, scratching his head as he said so. She nodded and made her way to the door.
"Alright... Goodnight, Landon."
"Goodnight Charlotte." He said as he waved at her as she pulled the door closed behind her. He let out a breath he seemed to be holding and collapsed backwards. Her smell lingered in his room and he slowly breathed it in.
Lilac.
Charlotte on the other side of the door smiled to herself, and made her way to the guest room, right which was next to another room that seemed to be locked. She entered it and got herself ready for bed, which wasn't much.
She changed into some pajamas and brushed her teeth before slowly crawling into bed. It was strange being somewhere else, but she was grateful that she got to sleep in a bed after so many months of sleeping on the floors. Her body was so relaxed, and the mattress was so soft and it was so relaxing. She closed her eyes and started to feel more at home. She snuggled into the blankets, overwhelmed by her emotions. She missed sleeping in a bed, and she missed when her family was loving and not torn apart. She missed being a normal child where she had no worries. She stared at the ceiling, blinking back tears but to no avail. Tears filled her eyes as she continued to stare up.
This is so nice... I could lie here forever...
She thought as she closed her eyes, tears spilling out of her eyes. She longed to be held by her mother fondly again. She wanted to be held and loved by her mother again, but she knows that those days are far from over. She can never go back to when things were so much simpler, and sweeter.
She doesn't remember how long she cried for, or when she stopped, but she knew that she fell asleep happy. She knew that she finally fell asleep and was able to have a good nights rest for once.
This was very lazily written because I sort of lost motivation to actually continue this and I was thinking of just giving up on it but I'm not sure. Thoughts?
