Day and Night

Strong wind blows through the old gum trees

Plains stained orange by the sun

A plane droans high overhead

In the late afternoon sunshine

Insects fill the air all around

As I sit down near the water

The gentle liquid of the lake

So placid in the afternoon

The wind has finally stopped

The land has become very still

But the soft noise of small creatures

Fills the now-still air all around

The land is moving from one stage

Into the exciting next one

Not missing a beat in the cycle

As day turns to night by the lake
