Elements - Book #1: Fire

Chapter 1+Prologue

A/N: Hello, I hope you enjoy my story. I know it's a bit short, but I did what I could. I'm not very good at writing fluff/filler. This is my first time writing original fiction (I've written Fanfiction before), so please be gentle with the criticism. That being said, I do appreciate constructive criticism. "LoL this Sux" isn't constructive criticism, so if you're going to say something like that, just get out now or at least keep it to yourself. Enjoy. – Danmonkey

Here's some author praise for me:

"Beautifully written." – My friend

"Interesting." – My sister

*If this is posted or taken in any way not authorized by me, that's stealing, it's fine to post it other places as long as it's linked to me, the original author.*

Prologue:

In the beginning, The Divine One created The Elements: Fire, Water, Earth, Air, Love, Fear/Hate, Light, Dark, Life, and finally Death. Each element having its opposite, its enemy, the one with which it did not mix well, its followers often battling against each other, and each has often been the basis of entire religions. With The Elements, The Divine One created 10 planets, built specifically to harbor each Element in its purest form, as well as its users and guardians. In addition, The Divine One also created the rest of the universe, for all species to have and explore. - The sacred scrolls

Chapter 1:

My name is Jason, Jason Fuller. I was 23 when it started. This is my story.

It was March 18th, 2036. That first day started like any other day —except that it was Saturday, so I didn't have work that day—I woke up, and got dressed, then ate breakfast. One of my friends, Megan, texted me in the morning and said she had a surprise planned for me, and I should meet her out by Farmore Woods at tonight at 9:30, I agreed. It was around 8:00 AM then, and it only took about 30 minutes to get there. I spent most of the day reading and playing video games. I noticed the time: 9:04. "Crap," I said to myself, "I'm going to be late." Then grabbed my keys and left. Nothing eventful happened on the way there.

Once I got there, she was waiting for me in the parking lot. She had a basket in her hands. "Are we having a picnic," I questioned her "and where are Megan, Tyler, and Dave?"
"It's just you and me." She said with a smile.
"Just you and me," I said, confused. "Why not them?"
"Because, silly," She said, giggling, "The surprise is for you."
Just us two, I thought that's odd, even for her. She grabbed my hand and pulled me down one of the less-traveled trails into the forest, a while, running out of breath, I said "Hey, Slow down!" I started to slow because I couldn't keep up.
"Speed up!" she shouted back to me, now far ahead, with a laugh. We reached a clearing with a large hill in it. She climbed to the top of the hill, and I followed. Once she reached the top, she pulled out a blanket checkered red and white, and laid it on the ground. "That's so cliché, you know that, right?" I said.
"Of course it is, now come sit down." She said. I sat down and made a "oof" sound as I did.
"See that star right there?" she said, pointing
"Yeah, what about it?" asked I. She pulled something made of paper –a certificate– out of the basket. "That's Jason's Star."
"You named a star after me?" She just smiled. "How?"
"I have my ways, but that's not important." She got closer to me, and I could feel her warm breath on my face in the cool air. "What's important is –"she was cut off by a blood-curdling scream.
"What the heck was that?" I said.
"I have no clue, but we should check it out, it came from that way" she said.
Braver than me, I thought I would've just left the forest, but I don't want to look like a scaredy-cat. "Let's go." I said. She pulled a large pocket-knife out of her pocket and handed it to me. "Always ready, aren't you? What about you?"
"I've got another one in my other pocket." She said as she pulled the knife out, it was a smaller one, though still quite large for a pocket-knife. After some searching in that area, we found an area of the forest that was burnt, still smoldering. "Stinks" I said, pinching my nose. Walking a little further in, we found a burnt corpse. "That's gross" she said. "Well, I guess we know who screamed."
"What should we do?"
"Call someone, 911, the police, the –"she was cut off again, but not by sound this time.
"Fire!" "What?" "Fire!" she said again, louder this time. I whirled around, and sure enough, a wave of blazing fire was coming after us. "Run!" I said, but she was already running. I tripped. "F-" I had started to say, but I was cut off and did a face plant right into a tree stump, knocking me out cold.

End chapter 1.

A/N #2: So, did you guys enjoy the little shot of excitement at the end? I know it isn't much, but this is just a kick-it-started kind of chapter, hope you liked it! I read a lot, and decided to try my hand at writing, please, do let me know what you think, I'd appreciate it! On a side note, I never realized that writing takes so much longer than reading, so I now have a new-found respect for serious writers now.
