Voilla! Sorry it took a while to post this chapter. Voilla, anyway!
It's been 3 days since my last entry. I'm in the hospital, bored out of my mind. Yesterday, some girl kicked my jaw when I bent down and I blacked out. I was brought to the hospital, where they found out that my jaw was dislocated. I need surgery to keep it in place, but I wont be able to have the surgery for 4 days. Well, 3 now. Anyway, my parents bought my diary and a couple other of my things to the hospital to entertain me. I'm still extremely bored, though. Anyway, I ...
I stop writing, because I hear the sound of knocking. The door to my hospital room is already open, but this person is knocking anyway. To get my attention, I assume. The person knocking is a random guy in a hospital robe like mine. He's bald. He looks like he has cancer and he looks about my age.
"Hi." The guy says.
"Uh, hi." I reply
"What's your name?"
"Ava. What's yours?"
"Yeah. So, why are you here?"
"Dislocated my jaw. Getting surgery in 3 days."
"Oh, that's why it looks like your having trouble talking."
"Yup. I can assume why your here."
James feels his bald head. "Yup, brain cancer. I'm getting surgery in exactly 1 week."
"Your situation sucks too."
"Not as bad as yours."
"Yeah. Don't feel bad for me, please."
"Because everyone always feels bad for me. It's annoying."
"Oh. I've never had that problem before."
"You are. You just don't know it."
"I don't feel like arguing, so I'm not gonna say anything."
"No offense, but why are you here? Talking to me?"
"I'm bored. You looked bored too. I need a hospital buddy."
"Yeah, well I don't." I feel bad, because I say that very harshly.
"You do. I can tell."
"No, you can't. You don't even know me."
"I don't have to."
"Ugh, can you go away?"
"Okay, but can I ask one last question?"
"You'll leave me alone right after?"
"How old are you?"
James smiles. "Me too. What grade?"
His smile makes my heart skip a beat for some reason. "That's 2 questions, but I'm in 8th."
"Me too." He smiles even wider, showing his bright white teeth.
I don't know why, but I feel the urge to smile back. I do so, and then realize that I haven't smiled in a very long time.
"I'll leave you alone now." He says and starts to walk out my room.
"No, wait. Maybe ... We can be hospital buddies."
James pauses. "Really?"
"Yeah, sure." I sigh.
"Yay!" James walks in my room and sits on the chair next to my hospital bed.
"So, what do 'buddies' do?" I ask.
"Well, what do you normally do with your friends?"
"I don't have friends."
"I'm serious. I've never had one friend before."
"I know. What do you normally with your friends?"
"Well, I don't have friends now, but when I did, my friends and I would always get into trouble."
"We would play a while bunch of pranks. One time, we put whip cream all over the teacher's chair and she sat right on it! She didn't even notice!" James smiles as he recalls the memory.
"That's not very nice."
"I know, but it was funny."
"Yeah, well atleast you enjoyed your time while you were in school. I was bullied everyday."
"Aw, do you know why?"
"The other kids don't like me. They think I'm different."
"I don't dress like them, I don't act like them, I'm not as skinny as they are, and yeah. I guess that's it."
"Hmm ... I guess I'm clairvoyant about you then."
"What does that mean?"
"Nothing." James smirks.
"No, look it up!"
"I don't have a dictionary."
"Well, too bad."
"Please tell me?"
"What's your favorite color?"
"You don't care, do you?"
"Not really, sorry."
"It's fine, I understand."
"Ugh, I'm so bored."
"I have an idea."
"Let's walk around."
"Are we allowed to?"
"What if we get in trouble?"
"We won't. Come on, Ava."
"I-I ... Fine."
James grabs my hand and almost literally drags me out of bed. We sneak out my room and start walking down the hall. "Let's play a game." James says.
"What kind of game?" I ask.
"We run around and try not to get caught by doctors or nurses."
I giggle and then nod.
"Let's do this." James whispers.
James and I walk down the hall. I realize that we're still holding hands. I don't feel like letting go of his hand, though. His hand is warm and soft. It makes me feel almost like I'm being protected.
James abruptly stops walking. He takes me by surprise. I almost question him, but then realize that I hear footsteps. James and I look for somewhere to hide. We see a door to the right. James opens the door, leads us inside. It's a supply closet. A very tightly-spaced supply closet. James and I are practically on each other. It's not very comfortable.
I try to complain, but James shushes me by holding his finger to my lips. Well someone is taking this game a little too seriously. I roll my eyes, even though he can't see it. It's really dark in here.
I hear the footsteps come closer. My heart starts beating fast, for some reason. I think James feels it, because he whispers, "You scared?" in my ear. His breath sends shivers down my spine.
Oh, so you can talk, but I can't? "No!" I whisper kinda loudly.
The door to the supply closet opens. The person who opened the supply closet door is a tall female doctor. I squeeze James' hand and hold my breath. The doctor looks angry as she asks, "What are you two doing in here?!"
"We-We were just, um, looking for extra blankets?" James says.
"Right, James. You always get into trouble! Atleast think of better lies! Go back to your room, now!"
James sighs and lets go of my hand. "Yes, ma'am. Bye, Ava."
"Ava, you go back to your room too." The doctor tells me.
"O-Okay." I stutter.
I run back into my room and climb in my bed. I grab my diary and continue my entry.
... think I found a friend! His name is James and we just got in trouble for sneaking around the hospital. I've never felt this way about anyone before. My heart started beating really fast, for some reason. Maybe that just happens whenever your around a friend. Even though he's kinda annoying, It was fun being around him. I hope I get to hang out with him again.
Hope ya liked it! Review, follow, and favorite both me and my story :D
