Let me begin by saying I make no excuses, or weave complicated explanations about my work to claim it is anything other than what it is – a gay romance.

A gay romance in which I intended to break down as many of the genre's classic clichés as I could. The irate father, the ditziness, the tragic ending. Just like homosexuality can't be stereotyped, neither can literature containing it.

That's not to say I haven't fallen prey to a few – the beautiful prostitute, the scarlet woman, the misunderstanding. But I hope that their involvement has been used in such a way so as to better the story rather than to hinder it, or cause exasperation among the readers.

This story is about life, and as such, contains sensitive topics such as drug usage, exploitation, child abuse, alcoholism, sexual behavior, and explicit language. It is not my intent to offend anyone by the involvement of these subjects, but to ignore them would be denial of their reality.

Moreover, some scenes and situations within this story have been taken from true accounts of similar events.

These things really happen.

I have "cast" the characters as follows, listing along with their names the films/TV shows/etc that "earned" them the character-

Roland "Rory" MacIntyre – Ewan McGregor (Velvet Goldmine, Trainspotting, Long Way Round)

Christian "Chris" Hilyard – Hayden Christensen (Awake, Life As A House, Higher Ground)

Dave Carlton – George Michael ("Never Gonna Dance Again" music video)

Quinn Campbell - Jonathan Rhys Meyers (Velvet Goldmine)

Kathy Griffiths – Camille Coduri (Dr. Who, seasons 1-2)

Gabby – Jessica Alba (Awake)

Dedicated to the real Rory and Chris, wherever they are.
