You hatch a bird in captivity,
And one day you want to set it free.
You release it on to the ground,
And all it does is hop around.
It's never flown before, you see,
Because before today, it's never been free.
Sometimes these things are instinctual,
But oftentimes, the bird starts to fall.
This is a case of sink-or-swim,
And if you release the bird on a whim,
Often it won't know what to do,
And just stand there and look at you.
