New story that I'm really loving writing, definitely different than my other one on here though. Please read and let me know what you think, good or bad. Thanks!

Sometimes things just don't go the way you plan. Things happen, people change, and sometimes it's better to just let go. Sometimes things really just aren't meant to last, but occasionally they are, and then you have got to fight to try to keep it. Lying here, even now cold in the snow slipping away, I don't regret it. Even at the cost of my life I don't regret him.

It was hot, the kind of hot that almost makes you miss spring; almost. It all started the summer before I turned seventeen, mid-May, and what a summer it was…

Chapter one

The door closed behind me like it was blocking my escape; trapping me in the house. I walked cautiously, trying not to make a sound as I snuck up to my bedroom. "Uh uh, I don't think so." I froze in my tracks. Mom. "Living room, NOW!"

Knowing there was no point in arguing I headed down the stairs to join her. Taking my place on the couch across from her I waited. She stared at me in silence for a moment, her hazel eyes staring me down as if to be intimidating; her trademark way of 'letting the suspense build.'

"What the heck were you thinking sneaking out? I don't know who you think you are missy but this is my house and my rules and I WILL NOT raise a worthless teenager so you better…"

I tried not to make it obvious as I completely blocked her out. After ally it was just a party, hanging with friends; what could go wrong with that?

Later that night I lay perfectly still staring at the clock. When it finally hit twelve-thirty AM I climbed out of bed, checking my hair and putting on my shoes before climbing out the window. I jogged down the block; smiling excitedly when I saw Sarah's old Chevy parked by the corner.

"Hey girl!" she jumped making us both laugh, "Let's get out of here!"

"Hey Amber!" I smiled and waved in the general direction of the voice, not even caring that I didn't know who it was. I walked across the beach taking a seat on one of the logs next to Sarah and her boyfriend Chris.

We stayed like that for a while, talking and drinking beer. Then out of nowhere I noticed someone; a boy by the rocks. I didn't know why but I decided to go investigate. Walking over towards him I pulled my jacket tighter; chilled by the sudden breeze. He wasn't facing me; instead he was looking out over the ocean, lost in thought.

I was just over halfway there when I felt a sweaty hand rap around my arm. I pulled back but he didn't let go. Seeing his face I recognized him as a guy from school but I couldn't remember his name for the life of me. "What the heck! Get off of me!" I tried to sound stern and unafraid since he was obviously drunk but it didn't work.

Everything after I only remember in pieces. He backed me up against a wall; I couldn't scream loud enough to be heard at the bonfire. "Help! Somebody! Stop it!" I cried helplessly though I knew the now violent wind was ripping my words away. I guess this is what I get for not listening… Within moments by some miracle the boy from before heard me. I do remember he looked shocked at first but when his gaze met mine it turned to a look of pure rage; his beautiful features contorting to something terrifying. He charged my attacker, ripping him away from me and scooping me up into his arms. I faintly remember him carrying me; a faint musky smell; and then nothing.

The next thing I know I was waking up at Sarah's house, as if the whole thing was just a dream. Sitting up I tried to remember, did that all really happen? As if in answer to my question Sarah came out of the bathroom, "Who the hell was the hotty and what happened to you last night?" her usual happy-go-lucky tone was gone replaced with something suspiciously like motherly concern that I didn't like but chose to ignore for the time being.

"Well at least I didn't imagine the whole thing, that's a plus I guess." I said mostly to myself but she answered anyway. "Don't you remember?" she asked shocked. "Of course I do!" I replied automatically defensive. "…Just not all of it..." I added after a moment. She gave me a 'what the hell' look before heading back into the bathroom to finish brushing her teeth. It was obvious she was starting to question my sanity just as much as I was. Great, I thought to myself, just great.

A/n: well there's chapter 1! I know it's short and I promise the other chapters will be longer. Again, PLEASE review and let me know what you think. I would really appriciate it. Thanks!
