footprints dapple the shore where
it's greedy mouth failed to claim more
than a pair of heels (it wanted their
hips and shoulders too), leaving sandy lips
parted in shock trailing like lipstick stains until
they smudge, vanishing in the sea's soft
frills, the edges of the sheets. submerged
hands reach through velvet and bones
tremble in the chilled moonlight sliding
between the folds, coalescing into
mother of pearl over their skin flush
with butterfly kisses. a glossy bubble
floats between them: one breath to cradle
all the words they will never say.
