"And she's searching for no one"
He was glad Gwen wasn't holding his hand. His hand became a river once he saw Gwen. He didn't want to drown her palm with his nervousness. He swallowed, his Adam's apple bobbing with the roaring beat of the music. He fiddled with his tie, "Uh, Gwe-,"
"Hey Gwen!" Jacob draped his overly muscled arm on the blonde's shoulder. Gwen threw him a disgusted glance, shrugging off his arm. Jacob burped, "Babe," He hiccupped, "What up?"
Scott scrunched his nose up when he smelled alcohol wafting from Jacob's mouth.
Gwen rolled her eyes, "I'm not your date; never have been, never will be." Scott grinned, that was one of the many things he loved about Gwen; her fiery attitude that was matched by no one. That, and that she hated Jacob just as much as he did.
Jacob snorted, "Whatever." He walked away, shoving Scott with his shoulder roughly.
Scott swallowed a growl, and smiled at Gwen. She smiled back and sighed, "Sorry about that, I don't know where he gets off."
Scott chuckled, "It's fine." He brought his finger up to push his glasses up before he noticed he was just hitting his nose repeatedly causing Gwen to giggle. He cleared his throat, "Sorry, force of habit." He never had to wear his glasses anymore; he did it as a habit; to help him feel grounded.
Gwen shook her head, "It's fine." Her smile never dimmed.
He smiled in relief, "How about I get us some drinks before hitting the dance floor?"
Gwen nodded her consent and headed to a table full of her friends. Scott walked over to the refreshment table. He smirked once he noticed a certain teacher, "Hello, Mrs. Murdock."
Ms. Elliot threw him a dark look with a hint of amusement, "Ha ha."
Scott put his hands up with a laugh, "I'm sorry, it was too good to let go." The blonde rolled her eyes and took a sip of her drink. Scott looked around curiously, "Where is Dr. Murdock, anyways?"
Ms. Elliot sighed, "He said he had to pick something up. Hopefully, he'll be here soon."
Scott nodded and got his drinks, "Well," He began to walk away, "I hope he doesn't keep you waiting." He walked back to Gwen noticing Alvin sitting close to Gwen and Kylie Brody. He shook his head at Alvin's antics, "Hey guys," He set the cups down once he got to the table.
"Hey," They chorused, Alvin with a grin, Kylie with a wave, and Gwen with a smile and a pat on the seat next to her. Scott smiled back and sat down.
"Having fun?" Alvin asked, his grin never wavering. His arm was casually draped over the back of Kylie's seat.
Scott chuckled, "Only if the ladies are." He glanced at both girls, smiling politely.
Kylie laughed, "Sooner or later, it'll get better."
Alvin nodded enthusiastically, "That's what I'm saying!"
Gwen laughed at the pair and smiled at Scott, "Mine's great, I'm having fun."
Scott smiled, "That's great."
His eyes shone as he stared at Gwen. They were slow dancing to one of Scott's favorite songs, and he couldn't take his eyes off of her. He was also happy he hadn't stepped on her toes.
Gwen finally glanced up at him and raised an eyebrow, "What?" She asked, a smile tugging at her lips.
Scott shook his head slightly, "Nothing, it's just," He felt his body warm up as he gazed at her emerald eyes, "You're just so beautiful." He hadn't meant to whisper it with so much conviction, but it was worth seeing her blush and avert her gaze.
Her eyes shone as well when she glanced up, "Thank you, Scott," She laughed a little, "You're actually the first person to say that." Her voice was taking on a slightly heartbroken tone.
Feeling his heart clench at the sad aura erupting from her, he brought his head closer, "You should be called beautiful every day. Anyone who says differently is a fool."
A tear fell down her cheek as she lightly slapped his chest, "Stop lying."
He took his hand from her waist and grabbed her hand that laid limply on his chest, "I would never lie about that." His eyes held so much honesty that it made tears fall from hers. He gently wiped them off with his thumb. She looked at him with a look he never saw before on anyone, and he could probably tell he was looking at her the same way. She leaned in and unconsciously he leaned in as well until he heard a gunshot in his mind.
