Chapter 8: The Return
2 months had past since Jason departed with Jackie back to Pride City, the journey was long but finally they had arrived at the docks of Pride City. Jason stood on the boat, his gaze shifted in every direction.
It had been so long, but now he was finally home. Jason inhaled nasally and stepped off of the boat and onto the docks. He then turned slightly to his right and glanced at Jackie who was standing by the cabin door.
"Thanks Jackie." he said gratefully, a smirk crept up Jackie's face and he replied with "No problem kid, if you're ever back in Hong Kong we should hang out some time." a smiled stretched across Jason's face.
"I'd like that." Jackie stepped inside the cabin and moments later the sound of the boat's engine rang in Jason's ears. The boat then sped away from the docks and Jason watched as it disappeared over the horizon. Jason then began walking through the docks.
Once he stepped into the streets his gaze shifted around, everything looked the same as it did years ago. Jason was then lost in his thoughts, the city itself might be the same but that doesn't mean the people are the same as well.
Peter most probably had new friends, Erica might have met someone and the staff at his mansion might have abandoned the it the day of the accident and celebrated. Jason returned to reality and a sigh escaped his lips.
He then decided to return home first of all, he figured it was most probably filled with dust and cob webs and had probably been looted. The grass was probably overgrown and the bushes had probably expanded had become wild and unruly.
Jason wandered through the dark, silent streets of Pride City. Memories flashed before Jason's eyes as he remembered all the good times he had with Peter, Erica and his parents. He then gazed up, there it was, Blackburn Tower. It still stood, grand and proud just as he remembered it. A small smile appeared on Jason's face, he then continued down the streets.
After what Jason guessed was half an hour, he had made it to the gates of Blackburn mansion. They were closed so Jason decided to climb over the wall, his legs bent once he landed on the ground.
He stood up straight and shifted his gaze towards the mansion, his eyes widened and his mouth gaped in surprise. It wasn't at all like he imagined, the grass had been cut short, the bushes were still small and round and the mansion still looked like what it did when he left. But that wasn't all, the lights were on which meant someone was in there.
Jason approached the front door of the mansion, once he stood right in front of it he pressed the doorbell.
Jason stood there for a moment, waiting for someone to answer the door. Then a loud click rang in his ear. The door was slowly pulled open revealing an elderly man on the other side.
He had a skinny, frail build and a lean figure. He had stringy, white hair, squinty brown eyes and a crooked nose. He was wearing white pyjamas with baby blue, vertical stripes underneath a red robe with yellow trimmings.
"Can I help you?" he asked with a posh, british accent. Jason smiled, he knew this elderly man anywhere.
"Hello, Bernard. It's be awhile." Said Jason, Bernard arched an eyebrow.
"Do I know you?" asked Bernard
"Bernard it's me." replied Jason, Bernard reached his hand into the pocket of his robe and pulled out a pair of black rimmed glasses. He put glasses on his eyes and his vision cleared, once he saw who it was his eyes widened and his mouth hung open.
"M-Master Robert?" asked Bernard in disbelief, Jason shook his head.
"Guess again old man." Bernard's eyes grew wider, only one person in the entire called him an old man.
"Master Jason?" a smile stretched across Jason's face and he nodded his head in confirmation.
"I can't believe it, we all thought you were dead."
"Well I'm clearly not. Can I come in?" asked Jason
"What do you mean 'Can I come in?' this your home." replied Bernard
Bernard stepped aside and Jason entered the mansion, Jason gazed around the interior. Every vase, painting, weaponary from the past was all still here. Just then Bernard broke the silence.
"Everyone, it's Master Jason! He's alive, he's back!" announced Bernard, within seconds of making that announcement the sounds of multiple footsteps echoed past Jason's ears.
The entire staff soon appeared and they stared at the young man in shock, there was an awkward silence for a few moments but it was soon broken.
"Damn, look at him. He's all grown up." said a voice, a woman stepped out of the crowd.
She was African-American and rather obese, she had long, black hair that ended just above the middle of her back. She had a wide nose, brown eyes and she was wearing a maid outfit. It was Gloria, one of his mother's maids.
"Hello Gloria." said Jason with a smile
"Jason, how're you alive? Where've you been?"
"Tibet." Jason was then bombarded with questions, Jason had no idea what they were saying. Finally Bernard decided to put an end to it.
"That's enough! The poor boy has been through a lot." The noise died down and Bernard turned his gaze to Jason with a smile on his face.
"Go inside the living room and rest Master Jason, the chefs will prepare a nice, warm meal for you." said Bernard, Jason then entered the large living room and collasped onto the sofa.
Several minutes later Bernard entered the living room holding a metal tray, on the tray was a loaf of beef, mashed potatoes drowned in gravy and peas.
Bernard sat down on the green armchair next to sofa and watched as Jason quickly devoured the food. Bernard let out a small chuckle which caught Jason's attention.
"What?" he asked
"Careful with how fast you eat Master Jason, you might accidentally bite your hands off." he replied, Jason let out a chuckle.
"Don't judge me, I've been stuck eating fish for the past two months." Jason then continued eating and once he had finished he let out a loud burp and set the tray on the coffee table in front of him. Jason then fixed his gaze on the old butler.
"So have things been going the past 9 years?" asked Jason
"Not so good, Xavier has become CEO of Blackburn Internationals and is selling weapons to the military. Although the company has never done better, it's not how your father would've wanted it." Jason nodded his head.
"I know, but my father's dead so there's nothing we can do about it." Bernard laid his back, but then he remembered something very important. Jason was alive, he was going 18 in 6 months which meant...
"Not entirely Sir." said Bernard, Jason arched an eyebrow and glanced at the old man.
"What do you mean?"
"You're alive, and your 18th birthday is in 6 months which means you will inherit the company." explained Bernard, Jason realised he was right. Owning Blackburn Internationals was his birthright.
"You're right, but what should I do until then?" asked Jason
"For starters you should announce to the world that you are alive, we'll do that tomorrow." Jason nodded his head.
"Alright, I'm gonna go to bed." Jason stood up from the sofa and walked out of the living, he then climbed up the stairs and made his way towards his old bedroom. Once he arrived at the his room he saw that the door was closed, he reached for the door handle, twisted it clockwise and pushed the door open.
Jason's room was the same as he had left it, but it was also smaller than he remembered. He decided that we going to stay in his parents' old room, so he turned to his right and walked down the hallway until he reached his parent's bedroom.
He reached for the golden, doorknob and gripped it firmly. He twisted in clockwise and pushed the door open revealing his parents' old bedroom on the other side.
It was a large room with a double bed 12 feet opposite the door, above the bed was a large picture of his mother holding him as a baby with his father's arm around her. There were two dresser draws on both sides of the bed with lamps on both of them and a bathroom on the right hand side of the room.
Jason approached the bed and collasped onto it, he lied there for a few moments before he climbed off of it and stripped off his clothes and put on his father's old pyjamas.
He climbed into the bed and pulled the covers over himself, Jason lied his head on the soft pillow and he quickly fell into a deep slumber.
