I turn off the lights

So there are no shadows.

My eyes stare into blackness

As if they were closed.

I grab my knees

And hold them tight

And smile.

They come for me

Riding on the draft.

They encircle me

Glad that I'm back.

I give them my worries

And they cast them away.

I'll relax

And think

If ever there was a night,

What better of a night

Like any other night

To sleep away my sorrow

Like tonight.
