Damocles spoke with envy in his heart
Spoke sweetly and smart
Yet the King was not deceived
Not like Damocles believed

Ruling without restraint
With greed his heart was taint
King for only a day
He wished his rule to stay

Celebrated throughout the night
His soul void of fright
Until he saw the King's pledge
A sword's sharpened edge

Eye fixed on the blade
The price to be paid
Peril replaced his greed
But didn't see the viper at his feet
