Once upon a time, there was a Mermaid named Deana. Deana didn't have any friends in her Mermaid castle- she was the only little Mermaid.
One day, while Deana was sitting outside, she began to feel very lonely.
"I wish I had lots of friends," She sighed.
Nearby, a young Merboy was swimming sadly. He too was lonely.
"I wish I had a lot of friends," He sighed. Then, he saw Deana sitting alone.
"Hi," The Merboy said shyly.
"Oh, hi there." Deana said with a smile.
"Would you like to play with me?" The Merboy asked.
"Of course- I'm very lonely." Deana said with a sad look on her face.
"You're not lonely anymore- I'm here to play with you!" The boy said with a smile.
"My name is Zachary- what's yours?" The Merboy asked.
"I am Princess Deana of the seven seas!" Deana said proudly.
"It's nice to meet you Princess Deana- now, how about we go and play?" Zachary asked.
"Okay- tag, you're it!" Deana called as she tapped Zachary's shoulder.
"Hey, wait!" He called back, a big smile spread across his face.
"Race you to the castle!" Deana called back as she swam as fast as she could.
When they reached the castle, they went flying through the gates, and into the throne room.
"I'll race you to the kitchen!" Deana called as they bolted down the halls, laughing all the way.
"Hang on there, Princess." A cook said as he stopped the two young Merpeople.
"You're not supposed to take outsiders into the kingdom."
"But he's not an outsider- he's my friend!" Deana said as she crossed her arms.
"He's an outsider- and if you don't take him outside, I'll have to tell your father about it- we don't want him to be angry with you, do we?" The cook said as he waggled a finger at Deana.
"Fine." She said simply.
"I'm sorry, Zachary." Deana said as the two sat outside of the castle.
"It's alright," Zachary said as he looked up at the surface of the ocean- the sun was setting.
"Oh, I've got to go home now, Deana," Zachary said as he got up.
"I'll see you tomorrow, okay?" Zachary called over his shoulder as he swam away.
"I'll see you tomorrow." Deana called back as she watched Zachary swim away.
"Well," Deana said to herself.
"I guess I'm not that lonely after all."
