All the tension
On the surface
Every drop
Of the last conversation
I wanted to bleed
For the both of us
Couldn't take another drop

Before it broke
And extinguished the fire
With winter snow

And giving up
On every cloud
Named hope
As they slowly dissolved
Over our heads
Like burying broken bones
And replacing them
With failed civilizations
Letting go of the hope
for a better past

And the rainbow I pressed into the sky
I stopped looking for the pot gold
When it began to rust
And crumble
Under the shadows of confusion
Into the apocalypse

Accepting the same punishment
For a different crime

Trying to steal more time
When I could never bargain
With scraps of superstition
On how to raise the dead
I never planned on never leaving behind
Even though everything looks better
When you never look back
