I awoke in a yet another office. This office was pitch black, except for a small desk light that illuminated the man's face from the Dean's room. "Good, you're awake. I have some important details I'd like to discuss—"
"Whoa whoa whoa. Where am I? Who are you? Why am I here? What's going on?" I sputtered.
"One question at a time, dear." The man smiled dully.
I shook my head, "Who are you?"
"I am the director of this government facility, my name is Thomas Easten."
"What did you do to me?" I rubbed my aching shoulder.
"You have been injected with a sleep serum." He replied, unamused.
"Where am I?"
"I'm afraid that's classified information. It would be an endangerment to our country for anyone to know our location." He stated, and then shook his head. "Heck, I don't even know where we are."
"Uhuh." I said suspiciously. I was beginning to think I'd been kidnapped.
"Now back to business. I have arranged for you to meet your partner in five minutes. You may use the restroom to freshen up. Leave the room and turn left."
Partner? I just shook my head, and left as instructed. I splashed some cold water on my face to wake myself up, and headed back to the office.
I felt for a chair in the dark. "Don't you have any other lights in this room, Thomas?" I finally found one (or so I thought) and sat down. I grunted as I fell on the hard linoleum floor, of course I sat right between two lounge chairs.
At last, florescent lights flashed on, revealing a young man with a smirk and Thomas pinching the bridge of his nose and shaking his head.
"There are enough seats for everyone. You don't have to sit on the floor." The new guy laughed, and offered a hand.
I blushed scarlet and took it. "Thanks."
This guy had warm brown eyes you could drown in, and golden spiky hair.
"If someone would just turn on the lights, I may have found a chair earlier." I said loftily to Thomas as I seated myself on the cushy stool.
"It would have ruined the ambiance." He shrugged with no reluctance for his past actions.
"I'm Matt." The new guy smiled at me.
"Elsie." I shook his hand.
"That's enough pleasantries. We need to get things in order. I have made the arrangements, and you two are scheduled to have your tutorial tonight, and tomorrow you will travel into the depths of time..." He said dramatically.
"Where exactly are we traveling?" I questioned.
"1865." He rolled the numbers off his tongue.
"Excuse me?" Matt leaned forward in his chair, gripping the armrests.
"You have been brought here for an experiment. You are using our newly constructed time travel device to travel back to Lincoln's final days after the civil war. You will be in Washington D.C. for a fortnight, and when the time comes you will prevent Lincoln's assassination. You shall stay in the Williard Hotel, in separate rooms of course. Be very careful with your actions during your stay. Anything and everything you do will affect someone or something somewhere in the present." He looked expectantly at Matt. "Got it?" Now he looked at me. "Got it?"
"Good." Then he abruptly left.
I turned, wide-eyed at Matt, who returned a mirrored expression.
