the spotlight flickers

and it's only me

just me. myself. and I.

alone on the empty stage

the audience's faces blocked out by darkness
but they're with me nonetheless

I breathe

then, I can hear myself speaking the words echoing through the theatre past the ears of every spectator through the heart and soul of every listener my words like bumblebees fit from person to person.

filling the space with the message of the text…

I see it before me in the darkness;

the bumblebees

they spread my words
pollinating the flowers that sway towards me

as the speech climaxes
and the bees swarm
the spotlight flickers
and my stage goes dark

and the flowers roar and whistle in the wind
