Being an only child can be lonely or hectic for anyone; but, make that only child also a princess and everything changes.
My name is Katherine Angelina Mallory Samantha Johnson- imagine saying that ten times, fast- and I am the first and only daughter of King Joshua and Queen Valerie of the country called Sugoiriku. The founder of Sugoiriku enjoyed Japan and the Japanese culture, so he named this country 'Great Land' in Japanese. He didn't speak Japanese very well but he guessed by putting 'Sugoi,' meaning 'Great,' and 'Riku,' meaning 'Land,' together.
Sugoiriku was a magnificent place to live. The land was fertile and produced beautiful flowers and large, delicious fruit and vegetables. My country was well known for its fruits and flowers.
Currently, I am at a party held by King Alexander and Queen Eleanor of our sister country, Eminsine. Both of our countries are islands in the Pacific Ocean. They are not too large; therefore, there is not the room for a large population.
During my sixteen years of life I have met everyone, from the child born yesterday morning to the old man transferred to the nursing home that same evening. I closed my eyes as I remembered meeting the newborn and the old man.
"You look like you have somewhere better to be, Miss Katherine." A deep, manly voice faded into my daydream. I opened my baby blue eyes to catch the stare of a twenty-year-old man's deep brown eyes. His dark brown hair was a few shades lighter than my jet black locks. He was wearing a black and white tuxedo and his brown hair was brushed back against his head.
I was wearing a long midnight blue strapless dress that glided against the floor as I walked to the edge of the balcony I had been standing behind. I was wearing silver heels underneath the blue dress.
I gazed up into the sky and sighed. "I guess I'm not having a good time since you're busy." I said and turned to look at him. He smiled and walked over to me, placing his hands on my waist.
"I'm all done with work, now I'm ready for you." He said and leaned down to kiss me. I smiled but pressed my index finger to his soft lips.
"Not here, Benjamin." I said sweetly and took his hand. We started off the balcony and made our way through the crowd and to the stairs. As we walked I heard girls whispering to each other things like 'why does Prince Benjamin have to go for someone like her.' I had learned to ignore the comments from the peanut gallery.
As we made our way up to his room, he ended up in front of me and leading me into his room. When we were finally in the room, I shut the door and he turned around.
I ripped my hand from his and walked over to the bed sitting down and taking off my heels.
"You know I'm not excited about our wedding, either. It's not like we had a choice. We mind as well just get used to it." Benjamin said and sat down next to me.
"I don't understand why we were forced into this arranged marriage. We should get a choice in who we marry. The only reason I agreed to it was because Daddy asked me to, to help Sugoiriku."
"I know, I know. Come on, Kate, let's just have some champagne and not think about our wedding." He said and stood up, walking over to the mini-fridge in the corner of his enormous room and pulling out a bottle of champagne. He grabbed two glasses off the top of the fridge and walked back over, opening it and pour some of the carbonated fluid into the glasses. I nodded and took the glass he handed to me.
"To forgetting," he said and gently tapped his glass against mine. I smiled lightly and took a sip.
I sat up off the bed and looked around. 'When did I fall asleep?' I asked myself in my head. I ran my fingers through my knotted black hair and looked down at the ground. There were a few empty bottles of champagne and two empty glasses. My eyes widened as I looked at myself then at the being that was indenting the spot next to me in the bed. I was lying, naked, next to Prince Benjamin of Eminsine, my future-and unwanted- husband.
